Manon had already seated herself beside Yoo In at the table. Looking happy and positive even as her disgruntled father carried out the rolls.
“Smells good in there, did grand-mére make the rolls?” Manon asked, knowing Roxanne often dropped off dishes. |

“She did. She dropped off some other things too. She said you look thin and wants you to eat more.” JJ said, acknowledging his daughter while trying to disregard Yoo In.

Lucinda appeared from the kitchen, bringing out a side dish of roasted vegetables and a little dish of butter to put on the table. |

Yoo In felt himself smoking a bit as he and JJ made eye contact. In truth, JJ had arrested Yoo In more than just a handful of times and once he’d been dragged out in the middle of his shift. The ahjumma hadn’t been there, but the samchon was and had made quite the scene. Yoo In suspected that JJ wouldn’t be a well received face, and JJ didn’t care enough for him to have ever had a reason to go back in his free time. Until now.
“Your folks probably won’t want to come.” Yoo In tried.
