Emerson made a thoughtful noise before giving a slight shrug.

"I've never been on a real date-date...not like this. What do you usually do?" Emerson asked. Of course he'd dated here and there, but nothing serious and not with anyone who made him feel the way Grey made him feel.

Grey had dated...Enough. She had a history of dating mostly insincere or unattached people, so she didn't have a definitive answer for Emerson.

"Well, I think the standard is like, dinner and a movie." Grey said with a light shrug. "But, we kind of do stuff like that normally. So I don't know, zip lining? Color Me mine?" She suggested.

"Zip lining? No. Too scared. Color Me Mine is more my speed." Emerson signed with a grin. "I am hungry though, so maybe we can grab a snack?"

After making their quick escape, Emerson and Grey made their way to the color me mine shop in town and poked inside. In truth, Emerson and Grey had talked about coming in and checking it out before, but this was different now.

This was a date, and it was for that reason, Emerson couldn't stop smiling as he held Grey's hand.

Grey was beside herself, she couldn't have been more excited. But in addition to the excitement, she felt comfortable. Everything with Emerson felt so natural, she was almost disappointed when she had to let go of his hand to paint.

"I wanted to paint you a mug, but I feel like you have enough mugs." She said to him.

"Paint me a plate and I'll paint you one." Emerson suggested as they got situated. He pointed to a set of square plates. "These would be great and they would be our own personal plates at the house."

"Okay, let's do that." Grey agreed, taking the square plates down and handing one to Emerson before settling at a little table.

Emerson gave a thoughtful nod and proceeded to reach for the first paint brush and the first bottle of paint, settling on a forest green first.

Grey got her brush wet and kept mostly to blues and cool shades.

Emerson wasn't much of an artist at least not beyond frozen yogurt artistry, so his plate for Grey wasn't particularly beautiful to look at, although it did remind him of Grey, which was the purpose. He'd painted the tree lines he was so used to seeing in Canby, along with a picnic scene (or rather an attempted scene) amidst patches of flowers. He painted "Grey's freckles" by the way of stars in the background of the plate. It wasn't beautiful, but it was reminiscent of Grey for sure otherwise.

Grey's parents encouraged her to do many things during childhood, painting classes being one of them. But, she did not excel in the arts but her plate came out alright. She had painted overlapping hues of blue to represent the beach and the ocean at Canby. She did her best to paint a little pier and boardwalk (didn't look much like a boardwalk). But in the middle she painted a little hermit crab, like the one Emerson was admiring on the beach during their second encounter.

"Done." Grey beamed, quite proud of her plate.

Emerson looked over and allowed his eyes to widen in pleasant surprise as he admired Grey's plate.

"That's better than mine!" He signed with a chuckle.
