"As long as it's an Orthodox church." Mityr chuckled, reaching to place an arm around Riley's shoulders then. "But in truth, I don't care, as long as I get to marry you."
"Then when we have a daughter, what should we name her?" Jer asked before his eyes went wide at the sheer extravagance of it all. "Mon dieu." He uttered, a smile growing on his lips. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Roxanne paused instead of replying, eyes gleaming and marveling at the magnificence of the event. Riley had truly outdone herself, everything was beautiful. She felt like a big, beautiful and pregnant princess.
"Oh look, the couple of the evening." Riley nodded upon seeing Jer and Roxanne enter. "I'm going to go over the itinerary with them, if you want to get food and have a seat I can rejoin you?" She offered.
"Alright, but if you don't hurry, I'll have to find another date." Mityr teased before tilting his head down to place a brief peck at Riley's temple and turning to step away.
As Jer looked around the room, he found Riley and his smile broadened into a grateful grin.
"Riley, this is amazing!" He called towards her. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"Don't thank me yet, I have a time line for you guys." Riley said, waving off Jer as she approached. "So lots of guests have already arrived, it's sort of a 'cocktail hour' right now, there's appetizers floating around so help yourselves while you mingle. Lots of people want to see you, not everyone is staying all night so make your rounds. Hour and a half from now we'll sit down for a proper dinner. Gifts are after, they'll all on that long table against the wall and there's a lot so you'll need to sit for that. And then after gifts, cake and we're all clear. You guys can leave anytime after and I'll handle clean up." Riley explained, glancing at her phone, scrolling through a to do list no doubt.
"Oh...that's busy. That's...a lot of time for Roxanne to be on her feet." Jer observed as he chewed at his lip slightly. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"There's seating everywhere, lots of place to take a break. But it's your party, if you have to excuse yourself by all means." Riley explained.
"I'll be okay, Jer." Roxanne said, perking up. "I'm so happy all of our loved ones are here, and this is such a beautiful party; the least I can do is make sure I say hi to everybody." She said smiling.
"Alright, but if you get tired, mon amour, please tell me. I'll make sure you get rest." Jer nodded before looking back at Riley. "Thank you, Riley, again, this is beautiful." He said. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
That night was amazing, Roxanne couldn't have been more pleased with the celebration of their pregnancy after trying for so long. She thought her prayers had been answered, that is, until about two weeks later. Roxanne had awoken in the night to sharp pains, she jolted awake with a pained scream. She knew it wasn't normal, something was wrong. Pulling away the covers to immediately climb out of bed and call Peter, she paused with a sobbing moan. In the vibrant moonlight pouring in from the window behind their bed, she could see the blood pooling in their bed.
She sobbed and quietly prayed through Jer frantically trying to transport her to Peter. Nearly no cab would take her as she was still bleeding, in spite of instinct Roxanne still prayed that she could get to Peter and hear everything was fine.
It was a long, hard night; Peter appeared defeated also after finally reporting, their baby had died.
Roxanne had been a wreck, nearly catatonic as she shut down completely. Her body had failed her, she had failed; her body could not house an infant and she could not have the family she wanted with Jer. In coming days she was bedridden, quiet and disheveled; staring into the nursery from their open door into the adjacent room in mourning.
The question was a familiar one for Jer, though he had not felt it so intensely digging into him since... well, everything before Roxanne. It was a question that nagged at him when he'd been cast out by his family and it was a question that then tore him from the inside out when he'd lost Celine, his first wife, and his son shortly after.
And it was a question now that still went unanswered when it came to the untimely end to his and Roxanne's long awaited dream of family, of their child.
He'd been hysterical the night it all happened. He'd tried to so direly to get Roxanne to Peter, to try and get her and their child the medical attention the required. Despite his best efforts, everything fell so short and Peter eventually had to pronounce his and Roxanne's child dead. Of course, Jer had known the loss of a child from before, but that was not to say he was prepared or steeled by any means.
He'd asked Peter time and time again if he was sure and he'd sobbed every single time Peter assured him that, unfortunately, it was true. He'd been broken by the situation, but once he was able to gain some sort of composure, he'd shifted all his attention to Roxanne. He, of course, was hurting, but he knew that she had to have been mentally and physically agonizing as well. He would have his chance to cry, to mourn, but he knew Roxanne needed him and his care to help her through the situation as well.
He'd taken an extensive leave from work to stay home with Roxanne while she healed and what not. He spent most of his days maintaining the home in her stead to allow her rest. He'd even had the chance to "refine" his cooking skills so she would not have to, which was how he'd spent his morning as he worked to prepare a cassoulet for them to eat.
"Mon cherie, I have your lunch." Jer announced as he came into their bedroom. His brow twitched into a sad little furrow when he glanced behind him and noticed he'd left the nursery door open. He pressed his lips into a little line and stepped into the room and closed the door behind him. "Roxanna...are you hungry?" He asked her. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Roxanne turned her head away, her eyes were already wet as she shook her head. Every time she had tried to pull herself together, she became a mess again; tearfully sobbing with every interaction and effort to get out of bed.
"No...No thank you." Roxanne sniffed, shaking her head. "I am sorry, I don't feel like eating." She persisted.
"Roxanne...you should at leas try eating something, mon amour. I know it is hard, but your body needs it." Jer tried as he approached the bed with a small lidded bowl filled with the lunch he'd prepared still. He went to her side of the bed and set down the bowl on her night stand before sitting on the edge of the bed and reaching out to smooth at her hair. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"What? No, no, Roxanna, my beautiful Roxanna, you're not terrible. You're so wonderful and...I'm sorry this has happened to us, I'm sorry it happened to you, but it's not your fault, mon amour." Jer attempted to console Roxanne, though his heart ached and tears threatened to prick at his own waterline. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
