Nevandre stared for a moment, as if the words needed time to sink in. He proceeded to unfurl himself from Irene and went to sit up instead.

“A pregnancy test? Do you really think you’re pregnant?” He asked, not upset, just curious.

They had never talked exclusively about NOT having anymore children, but they had certainly never had a conversation about having more children either. Honestly, Nevandre had thought they were done once they had Jackson, but as long as he was being honest, it wasn’t as if they were actively avoiding another pregnancy either (after all, Irene wasn’t like Havania).

“Cycle is late, oily and bloated, I think so. But a test would prove it.” Irene answered.

“Hm, good? Happy? I know we hadn’t talked about it, but it’d be nice to have a little one in the house again. I like seeing you with babies, you’re a good dad.” Irene answered.

“I’m an okay dad.” Nevandre scoffed before taking a beat to think about how he felt. “I guess I’d be happy too. Like you said, it’s not like we talked about it, but I like being a dad and I know you like being a mom. It could be nice.” He decided.

“It could be.” Irene chucked a little. “Did you not want anymore?” She asked.

“I don’t think it’s so much I didn’t want anymore kids, it’s just I didn’t think we’d ever have anymore. I just didn’t really think about expanding the family.” Nevandre admitted. “Did YOU want anymore kids? Did you do this on purpose?” He asked jokingly.

“No,” Irene scoffed. “I’m just as surprised as I was the first two times, which I realize doesn’t seem like a lot. I wondered if I could, it’s been awhile.”

Nevandre laughed as well.

“Can you wait for me? Let me shower and get dressed? We can go into town and get breakfast and get what we need before coming home.” He suggested.

“Hm, I guess.” Irene feigned exasperation. “I’ll wait for you.” She agreed, shooing him away.

“My wife is so gracious.” Nevandre teased as he stood up. He turned to Irene and reached out to cup her face before stopping to kiss her forehead. “I’ll be fast.”
