When man first dreamed of going to space, Jacey hardly thought that the idea would be to eventually send droves of people to the farthest stars to either colonize or be exiled. Jacey's people fell in the latter category of "exiled" as the original colonies of Draxus 6 were no more than condemned criminals doomed to be test subjects and forced explorers of the great space frontier.
When the first colony arrived on the destitute planet of Draxus 6 (commonly referred to as D-6), surprisingly enough, despite most of the colony having lengthy criminal records, everyone pulled together and managed to establish a cohesive enough colony to at least survive and eventually thrive. Of course, there were still troublemakers and issues arose all the same, but not to the point most people (mostly the people who sent them to D-6 in the first place) would have expected. Much like any other colony, as the situation thrived, so did the population and eventually there were several generations of inhabitants on the planet who expanded beyond colony walls and the formation of outlying communities progressed.
Jacey Rae Martin was a fifth generation inhabitant of the planet, descended from common criminals (to say they were NOT of the murdering type), and despite him and the rest of his family (as well as many on the planet) lacking in criminal records...they were still abandoned among the stars on a planet so far away from where they originally had come from. Where everybody had come from.
He often wondered what Earth was like. He'd been told that's where humanity all came from (though there was other life out on other planets and in space) and he felt that was where he might belong, but thanks to a befuddled judicial system of sorts, he was doomed like everyone else to stay on Draxus 6 until the end of his days.
He lived a simple enough life with a simple enough job in the community his parents had brought him up in. They were neither rich nor poor, just well-enough off. He worked as a cook in one of the near-to-home cafeterias and spent most of his free time either helping maintain the family home or out in his "secret place" out in the forests edging the community, which was where he found himself currently as he plucked at the strings of an old bass guitar his father had gifted to him. Apparently, whenever his great-great-great-grandfather had come to the planet, he'd come with nothing but a satchel of clothes and a guitar. He taught his kids how to place, in turn they taught theirs, and from there eventually music was a craft passed down to even Jacey. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Kiona had learned that upon birth though. She was one of many who would be born on a space Earth colony. Whenever Earthings wanted to terraform a new planet they often pulled a list from the space colony. Which was just a space station of people hanging out, waiting for a job to do. However, they had certainly become 'overpopulated' especially in her family. The Walkers were known for an impressive lineage. Kiona's Dad was one of ten boys, and Kiona was considered one of a eleven after her cousins came to live in their pod.
As the kids got older, it wasn't uncommon for them to take off for another planet or space station; anywhere that wasn't just waiting on the colony. Kiona was the last out the door in her pod. She worked in the mess hall, affectionately titled 'lunch lady,' and saved all her earnings to buy a beater space ship.
Now, this spaceship was not impressive, her Mother worried it would take her daughter anywhere. It was the space equivalent to a truck from the fifties. They didn't even make or sell parts for it anymore. But it was Kiona's, she couldn't be more proud to own it. And since departing from the colony, how ever long it had been, she'd been hopping from planet to planet. Finding and junking parts wasn't really a career, but Kiona was good enough at it and so happy to be 'supporting' herself.
Although she would be happier if her beater spaceship was not lighting up red on the inside, hurling itself toward the exiled criminal planet, D-6.
"Come on, Bertha! Don't do this to me, anywhere but here!" Kiona was exclaiming in the ship, helplessly turning knobs and hitting buttons for some kind of response. But 'Bertha' was going down, smoking and alarms wailing internally as it kissed the ground. It did not make for a gentle landing, it appeared she touched down in the forest; taking out small trees and foliage as she crashed and skid helplessly across the ground.
Jacey wasn't sure how he missed it, but it wasn't until he watched a clunker ship come skipping by not fifty feet from him that he was aware that someone was crash landing. He blinked and got up from his perch, setting aside his instrument before running over to follow the skipping trail left behind the ship. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Bertha was no match for the large tree in her path that she hit dead on. Kiona kicked the door open, letting out a large cloud of smoke from whatever was overheating on the inside. She coughed, fanning away the cloud as she emerged.
"This is going to be troublesome to fix." She wheezed, admiring the damage all the while rubbing her shoulder. She seemed pretty unscathed, her 'job' made it so she was well, normally kind of scrubby looking. Dirty, as she dug through rubble all day. A little bruised up from dropping large parts on herself or them collapsing on top of her. She even had a long scar that ran across the bridge of her nose from a wire snapping her in the face. Given her and her ships matching dents, she was still considerably pretty. Fair skin, long inky black curls, sapphire like eyes that gleamed in the light attractively (in spite of having burned her eyelashes to nothing).
Jacey approached with great caution. While it wasn't exactly unheard of crash landings and what have you, it definitely was not a normal day when it happened. It was especially not normal for the crash-ee, so to speak, to be a rather...well, pretty girl.
Jacey himself was rather average looking with long blond hair he usually kept pulled up and scruff usually adorning his chin. His eyes were a lovely shade of green, much like his father's. He wasn't particularly tall nor was he particularly bulked in muscle, simply average. But while he was average, this girl was not.
"Uh...hello?" He spoke. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Kiona's head jerked to the voice, eyes wide; startled.
"Oh my gosh." She quietly exclaimed. She had heard the inhabitants of planet D6 were a colony of criminals, her Mother was fascinated by the concept and often told stories about Draxus 6. She couldn't say for sure if she was scared, he didn't look scary. He looked, sort of handsome.
"You...you em...alright?" Jacey asked as he stopped, trying to keep his distance as he didn't know what this stranger would do. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"Uh I dunno, I think so? It sort of looks like this all the time..." She said gesturing to her ship before looking back at him; anxiously shuffling. "So...I'm just going to be direct if that's okay...You're not like, a murder or anything, right? My mom said Drax 6 was just murders, she's thinks that's cool, I'm still undecided."
Kiona let out a sigh of relief, her stance immediately relaxing. "Good, it's just a myth then?" She asked before looking back to her ship that had made out with a tree. "Can you help me push this, please? It will be hard to fix like this." She asked then, already poising herself to push on one side.
"Well, I mean, technically we're all descended from criminals, I suppose, but we haven't had new exiles on the planet for a few generations now." Jacey said, watching the girl for a moment. "You sure you can fix that heap?" He asked, wondering if the ship was even worth saving. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"Try telling that to my Mom, she's obsessed." Kiona sighed before looking at him and furrowing her brows. "First of all, how dare you. And, second of all, how dare you. I can fix anything, Bertha has seen worse." She said quickly.
"Bertha? I mean, at least the name is becoming of your, uh, 'magnificent' ship." Jacey said before proceeding over to assist (though he still wondered if there was any point). _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
