Shika looked at Wyla, acknowledging the weirdness of his mother's timing. He couldn't help but wonder what would happen if he was just blunt and casual about their surprise.
"Well, I can't be a baby again. But maybe one day one of us will make you a granny?" Shika offered with a shrug.
Hana didn't catch on, she merely smiled and chuckled softly. "I always said I'd rather be a young grandma. So you and Kisa better not wait too long." She teased, poking Shika's nose. She went ahead and turned away, heading into the dining room then. Shika looked back to Wyla and made a face, "I think that was a pretty pleasant response."
"It's a fair response, yeah." Wyla agreed, letting out a breath of relief. She reached down to give Shika's hand a squeeze. "We'll sit down, eat some, and spill the beans?" _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
They had all sat down to eat and make pleasantries, Yoosung was gruff and quiet, Hana was bright and lighthearted; everything was mostly normal. Yoosung was slouched in his chair, looking comfortable and sleepy after having a big meal. But Hana was the opposite as she perked up and smiled, "Oh Shika, I almost forgot. You said you had some news to share with us?" She asked.
Shika thought he was going to pass out, he was tired and now he was full. He was hoping that he would tell them and there would be little arguing; he just wanted to go home and sleep. Still, he took a deep breath before sitting up.
"Yes, it's pretty big news. I've kind of decided, I won't accept less than a congratulations. So I'm just going to be kind of blunt with you guys about it." Shika began.
"Are you guys getting married?" Hana blurt, completely wide eyed and smug, feeling as though she already new. Yoosung didn't react, he couldn't care less if Shika ever got married or not at all; the topic didn't interest him so he didn't chime in.
"Uh no. That's a good idea, and fair guess. But not quite." Shika answered with a light chuckle. "Actually, Wyla and I are pregnant. We're expecting a baby, well, actually we're expecting twins." He finally announced.
Hana's expression didn't change, she only squealed as she jumped up from her seat; knocking over her chair. "Oh my god! That's amazing, congratulations!" She beamed, rushing over to hug Shika before grabbing Wyla's cheeks and cupping them. "I knew it, you're glowing, I knew it!" She peppered Wyla's forehead with kisses while Shika laughed, "I'm so glad, your babies will be so beautiful! Twins are so much fun-" She rattled on between kisses.
Yoosung however wasn't so theatrical. He had shifted from his reclined position to sitting up, hands folded on the table. He exchanged serious eye contact with Shika but he didn't speak. Shika didn't say anything either, but he recognized the stare to know his father was disappointed. Yoosung wasn't likely to say anything in front of Wyla, but leave a nasty voicemail or text message for Shika later.
"Thank you, thank you." Wyla laughed with relief as Hana smothered her with affection. She glanced over to Shika, noting his gaze was on his father across the table. Her excitement faded slightly and her smile fell. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Hana was still laughing happily before reading the room, she glanced over at Yoosung and frowned as well.
"Yoosung, say something, won't you congratulate them?" Hana tried to encourage.
He looked at his wife and made a face before clicking his tongue as he shook his head. "He can't support them." He said simply, gesturing at Shika.
"Yoosung, you're being rude-actually, you're being very mean. Shika has been working so hard, he's a good boy. This family won't ever do without." Hana encouraged with confidence.
"Art is a hobby, not a career. Kids need to see hard work to value hard work." Yoosung insisted.
"That's ridiculous and it makes no sense, you worked hard-if you really believe that, why is Shika an artist?" She tried to counter.
"Because there's something wrong with him." He said quickly.
Shika normally would've felt wounded, but he'd heard it all before. He rolled his eyes and sighed before standing up. "Well, if you're going to be like that we'll go. Wyla doesn't need to hear that, Bixley certainly doesn't need to hear that. Thank you for dinner, but we should go." He said quickly as he stepped away from the table.
"It's nothing against Wyla, I love Wyla, she's a lovely girl. She's already a good mother there's no questioning that. But I don't think you can hack it, son. Being a parent is tough, especially to twins. It's not fair to her, to be stuck with you. You'll do her no good." Yoosung continued.
By now Hana was shaking her head and ready to walk them out, and arm around Shika and Wyla to try and shield them from his words.
"Thank you guys for coming tonight, I'm so sorry he's ruined the evening." She said, truly remorseful.
Wyla furrowed her brow and shook her head as she tried to dismiss the effort to remove them from the situation.
"Yoosung, I understand you're trying to come from a good place, but...well, I don't agree." Wyla pursed her lips. "Shika has an amazing talent and I understand you don't think that talent will get him anywhere, but if anything, he's proved that he can through all his recent efforts." She reached for Shika's hand. "He's very talented and he has a good heart. He's done nothing but provide and take care of not only myself but Bixley, too. He loves me, our babies, and Bixley too, and that takes a good man to do that. That takes a good man, an amazing man, and trust me, I know, so I'm sorry, but I can't sit here and let you berate him like that." _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"Love isn't going to carry you far on it's own. And it takes more than love to raise a child." Yoosung countered.
"Boy, are you right about that. Good thing Mom had love covered." Shika replied exasperatedly.
"Shika, you're Dad is being horrible right now, but he loves you. Don't joke like that." Hana quickly scolded. "Yoosung, you're done. We're done, no more fighting or instigating tonight."
Yoosung sort of threw up his hands halfheartedly as to surrender but he did not appear sorry or sincere in his 'surrendering.' Shika didn't even had the energy to shrug or roll his eyes, he was simply over it.
"You're right, it takes someone wanting to be around to be a parent." Wyla sighed and looked to Hana then, giving her a small smile. "I think Shika's right, it's probably best for us to leave right now, but thank you, we enjoyed dinner, maybe we can do lunch before you leave and when everyone is a little more level headed." _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"I would like that, thank you so much for coming tonight. I'm sorry for the theatrics, maybe I can take you shopping before we go? Some maternity clothes maybe? I'll text you and we can set something up." Hana forced a tired smile as she ushered them to the door.
"Again, I'm so sorry about Yoosung. He's certainly embarrassed me, I'm very happy for you both though. I look forward to being a part of the experience." She smiled again as she opened the door.
"Thank you, Mom. We'll be in touch before you guys leave." Shika said, giving a breif wave.
After the door was shut and they were walking away, Shika let out a heavy sigh.
"Ugh thank god that's over. Bixley, I'm sorry you had to hear mean talk like that. It's never okay to talk to people that way, and if anyone talks to you like that, you tell us right away, okay?" Shika explained.
"Okay...how come he was so grumpy though?" Bixley asked, reaching out for both Shika and Wyla's hands. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
