"I know, I know." Lazlo said, glancing over at the kids. "But I feel most bad about scaring them." He took a beat, watching the steady rise and fall of their chests and the soft twitching of Buck's ears, listening to the light wheeze from Norah's nose. "How upset was he? Before you guys came in." He asked quietly.

“Pretty distraught. It’s not a conversation I though we’d be having so soon, but he wasn’t understanding how you could be hurt so badly. I don’t think Norah overheard, if she did I don’t think she understands.” Amulius explained. “It’s not something I like to think about either.”

Lazlo frowned and gave Amulius's hand a squeeze as he looked back over.

"I know, but you know I'm not going anywhere any time soon, right? This was... a bad case, to put lightly, but you aren't going to be able to shake me that easy." He offered. "I'm still kicking and when I'm healed up, I'll work to be stronger than before so this doesn't happen again. Not like this."

“I want you to work smarter, not harder.” Amulius said. “I don’t need you to be the best the best hunter, or the best out of your Dad’s kids. I do need for you to keep coming home to me.” Amulius said earnestly, looking at Lazlo and giving his hand a squeeze right back.

“Oh honey, could anyone be better at Scott?” Amulius let a lighthearted chuckle escape his lips. “I like you better than him anyways.”

"Me! I'm better than Scott!" Lazlo laughed, which quickly tapered off into a little hiss of pain. "Better or not, I at least have an edge he doesn't. I've got a witchy husband who can give me better than the good shit, right?"

“That you do, you got me locked in for life, baby.” Amulius said with a little sigh and a soft smile as he leaned over to place a peck at Lazlo’s temple.

After a not-brief-enough stint in the hospital, Lazlo was finally cleared to go home. While it was certainly a relief for everyone, it was undoubtedly the biggest relief to Buck, who had been thoroughly shaken by the event that he hardly left his dad's side, and when he did it was often met with great resistance (which included shrill screaming and crying that everyone enjoyed). Bambi had made him and Norah come home with her one night so they could clean up and he caused so much of a ruckus that her brother, Shika, insisted he take them back immediately. It was certainly troublesome, but everyone had made it through the ordeal in one piece (sorta) and now they could all settle back in to a more normalized routine.

The family had gotten home not too long ago and Lazlo was almost instantly banished to the bedroom to lie down and rest. Despite any and all protests, it didn't take long at all for Buck to rush to the bedroom and join his dad in bed. It was only eleven in the morning, but the chatter from the father and son became quieter and quieter until there was no doubt that they'd both fallen asleep for a nap.

Amulius busied himself while Lazlo and Buck took their nap, picking up where it was needed since the house was dormant for a few days. He uttered some incantations and flicked his finger over the wilting plants around their home, causing them to perk up and look brand new. Norah had been helping for a little bit, as much as she could for a child. But ultimately she ended up falling asleep in a ball outside the bedroom door while patiently waiting for her Dad and brother to reappear.

The house was mostly still and quiet until there was a light knocking at the front door, followed by the quiet squeaking of hinges as it was eased open.

"Hello?" Bambi's voice called, quiet when she recognized the quiet in the home.

Amulius had called earlier that morning to let Bambi know that Lazlo was being discharged. Much like everyone else, that news came as great relief to Bambi and she wanted to come over and be as helpful as she could as well as check in on Lazlo for herself. So, after giving the family some time to get out of the hospital and get home, she headed over.

Amulius opened the door fully for Bambi, he was near anyways doing some organizing of the shoe rack by the front door.

“Hey,” Amulius greeted in a hushed tone. “Everybody’s sleeping, but go ahead and come in.”

"Hey, how is he? How are the kids?" Bambi asked quietly as she entered. She reached behind her to ease the door shut. "Did the kids drive him into the ground or was it just regular post-hospital fatigue?"

“I think everyone was tired, post hospital fatigue. Buck is laying down with Lazlo, Norah is outside their door.” Amulius explained. “Thanks for coming by, can I get you anything?”
