"No, we don't need to do that, but maybe we could just...could we lay back down? I'll be okay. I just...can you stay up with me? For a bit?" Romulus asked. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Of course, whatever you need.” Remedy nodded, gently. She gave him a kiss on the forehead before pulling away, she kept his hands in hers though and used them to lead him back to bed.
Romulus allowed himself to gently be led back to their bed and pulled his hands away only so he could clear the way of their comforters and sheets. He urged Remedy in first and followed closely after. He hadn’t asked to be held, but it happened anyways as he sank himself into Remedy, resting his head against her chest and his arms looping around her waist. They weren’t typically “soft” with one another, preferring light jabs and taunts to convey their affections, but this was admittedly preferred at the moment.
Romulus allowed himself to breath in Remedy’s scent and feel her warmth, even allowing his hands to gently rub familiar circles at her back. To him, this was comfort, this was home.
“Remy, what did your parents do to comfort you?” He asked. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Remedy fully accepted Romulus into her chest, resting her chin atop his head while her thumbs idly stroked his arms. She had to think for a moment, it had been a long time since she needed her parents comfort.
“Well my mom would just hold me, even if I was hysterical. She let me cry in her lap, and she’d tell me how brave I’d been despite anything.” Remedy explained.
“Mm, that sounds like something she’d do. Something a mom would do.” Romulus said, though the implication of not my mom was left hanging in the air. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
A few months had passed since Romulus and Remedy began the daunting task of renovating and general fixing up of their home and while it was still a ways from being complete, it was certainly getting there. They spent countless hours patching and replacing the roof, laying down new floors, and plastering walls with just the two of them and the occasional assistance of family here and there before it was finally livable. They kept scant furniture for now, mostly just a secondhand couch and tv for the living room and a bed that was a gift from Uncle Navrik, but it was all the twosome really needed to be comfortable as long as they had each other to tangle up with.
Romulus had been the first to rise, when the sun came creeping in through the set of dainty lace curtains Roxanne had gifted them. The lace left dappled little shadows on his cheeks as he blinked open his eyes. He had been folded around Remedy's form, his arm still draped over her waist and his nose softly pressed into the fluffy waves of her hair. He took a deep inhale of her and gave her a little squeeze before sitting up and leaning over her.
While Romulus loved Remedy's quick playful jabs and her occasional ferocity, he also loved this Remedy when she was all softness and warmth. He smiled to himself and leaned down to place a tender kiss at her face.
"Remy, I'm getting up now. I want to go pick up some things at the hardware store before it gets too busy." He said to her, though he wasn't sure whether or not she'd hear him through sleep. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Remedy had never been so happy, building a home with Romulus was pure bliss to her. Remedy wasn’t really one to make grand declarations of love, but she hoped it could be felt all around in their home. She put all her heart into long paint strokes, and all her adoration in the hammering of nails. Remedy would grow old with Romulus here, even though they would never really grow old in a physical sense. She’d never been so happy, and looked forward to everyday being like this.
They’d been up late, installing new tile in the kitchen. It may have gone faster had they not taken numerous dance breaks, anytime a song came through clear on the radio, or gotten off track with life stories or hypothetical questions that were too interesting to let go. The kitchen did look great though, Remedy didn’t have a specific aesthetic in mind when she bought this house, she found herself endeared to the gorgeous Spanish tile Romulus spotted at an antique store. In a way, the tiles reminded her of Romulu;maybe that’s why she liked it so much.. There were some obvious cracks, still visible despite a courageous amount of varnish. The edges were mostly rough, and unfinished, but Remedy loved the way they felt in her hand. The designs were intricate and unique, Remedy’s eyes had trouble tracking the patterns, but she was enraptured by the swirling amber and navy. Like the rest of the home thus far, it had been a labor of love.
That being said, it left Remedy curled up in a nest of blankets; snoring gently, some paint still smeared on her cheek. Remedy was historically a hard and deep sleeper, adding in domestic labor and a late night, she would normally sleep all day. But she was aware that her mother was going to be by this morning, and because Roxanne knew her daughter, she had been reminding Remedy all week. While Roxanne never patented with a heavy hand, if Remedy overslept and kept her mother waiting; she’d never hear the end of it. She sort of furrowed her brows and crinkled her nose, Romulus’s voice had reached her and reached back with a long outstretched arm.
She sort of groaned in protest, not yet blinking her eyes open.
“What time is it?” She asked, probably hoping there was still more time to sleep.
Romulus leaned over to Remedy further, squinting at the little clock perched on an overturned storage bin that was currently serving as a nightstand until something better suited could replace it.
"About nine." He read off before settling back and reaching over to gently touch the smudged paint on Remedy's face. "You could rest a bit longer, but you should start thinking about getting up soon for Mom's visit. Maybe wash your face for her." He smiled softly as fingers drifted to pet some of her hair instead. "I'll be quick at the store, hopefully before she gets here." _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Remedy sort of groaned again, pinching her brows together as she tried to scoot toward his warmth.
“I know you’re right, but I don’t want to.” She murmured into their pillow. “It’s so early..” She continued to pout.
But whining would do Remedy no good. Roxanne was already downstairs, rapping at their door. She’d taken a cab over, and carefully avoided all the uneven cracks in the sidewalk leading up to their house. The gate was broken and left their yard ajar, Roxanne still made a point to finesse it open and shut. She did nearly stumble on the broken step on the porch, she sort of helped and gripped onto the railing (it shifted when she did so). Roxanne never went anywhere without gifts of food or flowers, under her other arm was a basket; full of warm croissants and a bouquet of posies. She clutched it close to her as she regained her footing, stepping with purpose. Roxanne was a delicate woman and French, so she was subject to theatrics and would likely make a fuss about said step. After knocking on the door with hurried succession, she had to dust her knuckles off on the breast of her coat, due to the paint chips that flaked off when she knocked.
“Remedy!Bonjour!” Roxanne called out in a sing-song voice. Every window in their home had been open, causing her voice to echo throughout their home.
Remedy groaned again, louder now, hoping her mother would hear her disdain.
"Ah, too late." Romulus noted before leaning down to give Remedy one more affectionate kiss to her cheek. "I'll entertain her long enough for you to wash up and dressed." He told her before rolling off the bed himself and picking up a pair of pants and a clean enough shirt from the floor.
He threw his clothes and raked his fingers through his hair on his way to the front door. He was all smiles as he opened it up for his mother-in-law.
"Good morning, Mom." He greeted her affectionately. While Jer still wasn't his biggest fan and supporter, Roxanne was always pleasant and doting with him. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Romulus, hello!” Roxanne greeted with a warm smile, she reached up to brush a thumb across his cheek affectionately, as well as ruffle his hair. “You look well, hopefully you’re hungry though.” She said, offering up the basket of goods to him.
"I'd never turn down your cooking." Romulus said as he happily took the basket and stepped aside to let Roxanne into the house. "Remy is just finishing up getting ready and I'm about to head out to pick some things up from the hardware store to finish our kitchen projects. I'll sit with you while you wait though." He explained, gesturing to the couch in the living room.
The living room was the second most finished room in the house right after the bedroom. Romulus and Remedy had just put up fresh paint and finished putting up warm wooded wall trimmings to brighten up the space. The floor had been one of the first projects in the house, along with the roof and ceilings and was polished ash wood. Romulus thought the floors were nice enough, but found a plush rug that was impossible to pass up that now lay on the floor in front of the couch. It already looked well loved with all the sprawling Romulus tended to do on it whenever he and Remedy lounged and watched movies.
"How are you, Mom? Sorry you had to come so out of the way to see Remy." He said. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Roxanne found a seat on the couch, smoothing out her dress under her before sitting down. She crossed her ankles and placed her hands in her lap, like a perfect lady.
“Oh no, I love being able to see Remy and all the work you’re doing here.” Roxanne assured. “I can’t wait to see what you guys do with the outside.”
“The outside is fine, mom.” Remedy could be heard, bounding down the stairs and stomping over the bottom two. Her face was freshly washed, skin still wet. She’d even wet and combed her hair; slicked back, the way Roxanne liked her to wear it. She was buttoning up a thin white dress shirt, probably an old one of Jer’s she’d stolen.
“Oh it’s just the doors paint is peeling, but if you like it than you can decorate around it-oh, like a rustic them, like Ina Garten!” Roxanne chirped, happy to present ideas.
"I don't know who that is, but if she's a friend of yours, I'm sure she has good taste." Romulus said with a smile before giving a little wave. "I'll head out then. I'll be back soon, but if I'm not back before you go, get home safe, Mom." He stopped near Remedy and reached over to pat her shoulder and give it a soft squeeze. "I love you, be back soon." He said to her before trotting off and out the door. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Well, I brought fresh croissants, how about I make you some breakfast?” Roxanne offered happily.
Remedy crossed her arms and looked skeptical, she arched one of her thick brows. “Who helped make them?” She asked.
“Don’t be mean, Damian helped me with this batch.” Roxanne scolded before getting up and unloading the basket she brought.
“Arte can’t bake, that’s why she’s at the flower shop.” Remedy shrugged, crossing the space and plopping onto the couch, ready to be served. She gives Roxanne a hard time, but the truth is, who didn’t like being mothered by Roxanne?
“Remy, you cannot bake. Or grow flowers. But you’re doing something more important than that now.” Roxanne explained somewhat coyly, fixing a plate of breads and cheeses for Remedy.
“I’m surprised, m’ere. I didn’t expect you to think renovating this house was important.” Remedy said already picking at the cheese already.
“That’s not what I’m talking about, but having a home is important.” Roxanne sort of lectured.
Remedy arched her brow again, chewing on cheese hesitantly, waiting for Roxanne to elaborate. Roxanne sort of pursed her lip, expression somewhere between annoyed and disappointed that she had to explain.
“Remy, your le nichon!” Roxanne said, gently swatting at Remedy’s breast.
“Ow! Mom!Thats my boob!” Remedy poured, swatting back at her Mom.
Roxanne began rambling in French, lecturing somewhat, about how in the old days, you could tell a woman was with child by looking at their breasts. Remedy’s breasts had gotten bigger, and her stomach a little rounder; both of which were noticeable since Remedy’s frame had always been slim. But Remedy just assumed it was from eating badly and gaining weight.
“I’m not pregnant, I just gained some weight. I’ve been eating a lot of McDonald’s.” Remedy confessed, still cradling her breast, which was quite tender post swat.
