Dewey of course looked up as soon as he saw Dimitra. He supposed partners always looked radiant on their wedding day, and Dimitra was more beautiful to him each new day, more than the last. But to see her in person on this day, he nearly wept, his good eye becoming glossy, mirroring the glassiness of his ghostly white eye. As she approached he could feel the tickle of her red hair on his cheek in the morning, the feeling of her smiling into a kiss, and the sunrise seeping in through the tulle curtains of their baby’s nursery.

Dimitra walking up, was the future Dewey so longed to enrapture him, and Dewey was excited to sweep Dimitra up in all the beautiful things he wanted for them.

Dewey smiled almost sheepishly, like he was a little boy again. His fair skin flushed somewhat as he and Dimitra kneeled before the priest to begin.

There were traditional vows that needed to be exchanged, and the priest had a prayer he recited over them as well. Dewey slid on Dimitra’s ring on her delicate finger, lingering there because he just wanted to badly to touch her. After the rings were exchanged, the priest crowned them, which Dewey was right; his blond curls were definitely frizzing up from underneath no doubt. But he didn’t dwell on it, because Dimitra looked like royalty. She was in a sense, but she really looked like a queen; no one would look at Dewey and his ridiculous curls.

Dewey let out an almost nervous exhale, smiling at Dimitra before rising to their feet to be escorted out. [/code]

"You look handsome." Dimitra whispered wish a blushing grin to Dewey as they were led up to the alter where the priest would finish the ceremony in front of everyone. In one hand she held the lit candle she was given while her other hand hung at her side, fingers gently brushing for Dewey's.

Even as the priest led the couple to the rose colored rug at the center of the church, people were still quietly filtering in. And though many were there simply to spectate the wedding, Matvey and his group were there with ill intention. The whole lot of the dispersed into the pews, all with respective views of the Nikitin family sitting front and center. Matvey himself took a standing perch at the back of the church with his hand edging discretely under his coat for his gun.

Dewey reached, somewhat boldly and discreetly, wrapping a ringed pinky around hers before they were sat on the red carpet in the center of the church. Like Dewey, most eyes were undoubtedly fixated on Dimitra. Riley observing with a tender eye, thinking about how beautiful Dimitra looked and that she could be here for this moment. Ania and Vania were the same; Vania looked like she might cry, watching her baby sister be married off. But watching Dewey grow up and maintain his earnest and boyish adoration of Dimitra, they couldn’t picture a better person to marry in at Dimitra’s side.

Ace was still worried about Marzia’s presence, he was facing Dewey and Dimitra but Marzia could still feel his eyes. He held Darla’s hand somewhat tightly, ready to usher her to safety at the drop of a pin. Marzia of course was not the threat, she was as blissfully unaware as anyone else actually. She focused in on Dewey’s blond curls and the freckles on his sharp cheekbones. Marzia thought he looked like a sharper, more refined version of his dad. But perhaps what was most uncanny was the tenderness in his face when he looked at Dimitra, because that affection was replicated in the way Ace stroked his thumb over Darla’s knuckles as he held her hand. Ace accomplished exactly what Marzia had hoped for, that he could show Dewey how to love. Seeing the two pairs from even the back of the church, Marzia could see very clearly, she had made the right choice.

As the aged priest led his mumbled prayers over both Dewey and Dimitra, Matvey used the distraction to reach for his gun and take subtle aim for the Nikitin ringleader herself, Riley.

A young boy, no older than thirteen, glanced over and his whole face brimmed with horror and surprise as he reached for his father’s arm beside him. He tugged urgently and without regard for the ceremony at hand began shouting.

“Pushka! Pushka, Papa!” He yelled, causing heads to turn while others also reached for guns strapped to thighs or hiding under suit jackets.

The boy’s father grabbed him and pulled him behind him before reaching out to grab at Matvey’s arm. The two struggled over the gun until a shot fired off once in the air, making people shriek and drop to the ground between pews. Another person entered the brawl and began prying at Matvey’s hand to release the gun. In the struggle another fire was shot, this time finding purchase if the yelp and gasp was any indication.

It seemed like everything froze for an instant after the shot, all eyes had followed the cry as if it were the bullet’s own trajectory. Women gasped and covered their mouths when their gazes fell on none other than Dimitra.

Her beautiful gown that had been white just moments ago was blooming red with hot blood. Bits and pieces of lace and crystal fell to the ground by Dewey and Dimitra’s knees on the rose rug.

She looked stunned for a few moments before surprise gave way to discomfort as she dropped the candle to clutch at her side where the bullet had apparently shot clean through.

That singular moment hung in the air, Dimitra had been shot in the most impossible of scenarios. All eyes glued to her figure, mouths agape with profound disbelief. The chaos that would ensue, unfolded in slow motion. Dewey felt a ripple in his spine, urging him instinctively to shift and absolutely devour anyone in his path. He stifled it though, dropping everything as he rushed forward. His crown toppled over and he gathered Dimitra in his arms, she would certainly be okay but that didn’t erase the panic and the fear.

“Dimitra! Dimitra, are you okay? Can you walk?” Dewey quizzed frantically, his own voice muffled by the sound of blood rushing in his ears.

Things began to pick up speed, Riley could see bodies moving all around her from varying sides, some people just trying to flee the church. She could see Ace, pushing Darla down in the pews with a hand on her back, he withdrew his pistol and took aim. Riley followed where the gun was pointing, eyes landing on a man she knew by name. She glowered at him, eyed narrowing sharply as she felt her own mouth curl back in a toothy snarl. She reached inside her skirt to withdraw her own gun to fire at Matvey.

As Dewey scooped her up, Dimitra let out a little gasp, still clutching at her side, but it wasn’t so much out of pain as it was out of shock. She looked down and lifted her hand from her side, noting that, thankfully, the blood was already slowing and the skin was already itching with repair.

It was an ordinary bullet, not silver.

“I’m fine, I’m okay.” She sputtered, a little unconvincingly. She still swiveled her head to look up at her family, all of whom were reacting to the situation in their own ways.

As Riley took aim, Mityr was rushing towards Dimitra and Dewey. As soon as he was at her side, he was tearing at the hole in the dress to assess the wound. While he was hardly one for blood, he hardly seemed bothered by it as he fingers ran over the slick, already healing wound

Ivan had grabbed Fauna and their kids, urging them to hunker down between the pews as he pulled out his own gun to start picking off Matvey’s men as they all took fire. He was almost immediately hit, but hardly batted an eye as he was struck in his shoulder.

Adrik stood up with guns blazing, much like his brother and mother, however, unlike them, he was struggling to hold an entirely human form with his rage and shock getting the better of him. His hands trembled and his knuckles were white from his physical restraint on his wolf. His skin prickled and fur bristled and receded back. His jaw shook as he tried to keep it from turning into a fang-toothed maw.

All around, extended members of the Nikitin family were being rushed around, families and children being ushered out and away; some firing their own weapons. Riley never worried about her oldest children holding their own, but she could see Adrik out of her peripheral, beginning to change and snap out of his human characteristics. Riley was careful to never change in front of people, but Adrik utilized his unique abilities to change singular parts of himself often. There were plenty of rumors, that Adrik was a monster. She supposed the cat would be out of the bag now, and she felt within her right to encourage Adrik.

“Kill him, he doesn’t leave this church.” Riley instructed to whoever could hear her.

Dewey lurched over and around Dimitra, he tried to gather Mityr in his arms as well, trying to escort them swiftly from the scene. He practically carried Dimitra like a football, under his arm, and dragging Mityr by his elbow (which another time would look silly).

"Wait! Dewey, wait! My mama!" Dimitra cried. Though she knew that her mother and siblings were more than capable holding their own in a shoot out or any other kind of scuffle, this was the first time she was present for anything of the sort and it was much scarier than she anticipated.

"She'll be fine, malyshka, but we need to go." Mityr comforted instead, allowing Dewey to tug at his arm.

Upon hearing his mother's words and understood the implication behind it, Adrik almost instantaneously began his awkward shift, hands turning to claws and a vicious looking snout emerging from his face. His clothes looked tighter with muscle, seams being threatened but not quite bursting. He began rushing forward, directly towards Matvey who stared with wide horrified eyes that mirrored many others in the room.

Dewey led them a sort of ass backwards way through the church, but that was due to the heavy foot traffic in the immediate area. Dewey wanted to get them away quickly and without anymore incident. He led them through an empty service area that had a single emergency exit that led out the back entrance of the church. Spider had already secured a getaway car and was waiting for a Dewey and Dimitra. Klondike, Vania’s guard, along with a few nameless underlings, were clearing the way for vehicle traffic.

“Start closing off exits!” Riley ordered, seeing the her youngest had fled the scene effectively. The secret of their wolffish nature is something meant to stay a secret, and while it felt arbitrary given the grievances that had taken place, Riley was making an effort. Anyone still inside who saw and wasn’t supposed to see, would plainly not be allowed to see anything else. This was a protocol that had always been in place but never executed, it didn’t need special instruction from Riley: her men already knew.

As soon as they were in the town car and skidding out into traffic, Mityr almost instantly descended on Dimitra again, this time taking his pocket square and dabbing it over the bullet hole in her gown. He let out a shuddered breath of relief when he saw that the wound itself was no more and that Dimitra's skin had flawlessly stitched itself back together without causing her too much harm. He looked up to her face, ready to smile at her to express his relief, but his expression instantly fell when he saw her eyes moist and her cheeks red with the effort of holding back sobs.

Her wedding day had been ruined, people had been hurt, she didn't know if her mother and siblings were going to kill anyone, or everyone for that matter. She kept looking up in an attempt to keep her tears from running and her hands clung tightly to her wedding dress.

Dewey immediately began to panic. Not necessarily regarding the attempted assassination, but Dimitra’s tears. He fanned at her eyes with his hands briefly before grabbing up her hands in his.

“No no, shh, don’t cry!” Dewey sputtered nervously.

He looked around and tried to peer out the tinted windows. The car was speeding but not driving erratically anymore and traffic was thinning out with varying forces conducting the flow of traffic. He then pulled back the partition to get Spiders attention.

“Hey, where are we going?” Dewey asked.

“Where do you think? A safe house. Close the partition and buckle your seatbelt.” Spider said quickly, reaching back to close it himself.

Dewey slapped his hand on the plastic to hold it open.

“Wait-Can we make a stop?” He pleaded somewhat.

“Stop? This isn’t a casual drive!” Spider yelled.

“Please! I know we’re already headed outside of city limits, you know your route. The last church we pass before we reach the safe house, can we please stop?” Dewey continued to plead.

Dimitra tried to sniff back her tears, but was failing if her dewy lashes were any indication. She still held onto Dewey’s hand while Mityr had taken to cupping her face, his thumbs running over either of her cheeks.

Mityr looked up when he heard Dewey.

“You want to stop?” He asked.

“Well not right here obviously, but yes.” Dewey answered with furrowed brows. Dimitra wanted to get married, and in traditional Dewey fashion, his only intention was to do whatever Dimitra wanted as quickly as possible.

"We should just get to the safe house. What if Riley is there already? She'll be worried." Mityr argued.

Dewey furrowed his brows, Mityr was probably right. But Dewey was ready to move mountains for Dimitra.

“Dimitra, what do you want?” Dewey asked.
