Years had come and passed rather quickly since Mila was born, or so it felt; a perfect and delicate little girl to help complete the Nikitin family unit. She came into this world all pink and white, unique in appearance as she would be in nature. From a baby with a little tuft of white hair, she flourished into the perfect and most beloved little mob princess. As a young lady, Mila stretched out the way her Father had, from a chunky little girl (who wore her baby fat much more adorable than Adrik) to a rather skinny girl with thin wrists and a tiny waist. Her hair grew healthy and full from its previous evolution, now wavy and full of volume; often rather fluffy from being brushed out one hundred times each morning with an expensive hair brush.

Her skin still bore almost no pigment, eyebrows icy and thin as they blended into her face. Her curly white lashes parted for her wide eyes, for her strain of albinism her eyes were colored a startlingly blue; though quite pretty it came with its faults. Common with albinism was sensitivity to light as well as the spasm and fluttering of the irises which Mila was no stranger too. She adapted well enough, she had special prescription sunglasses she wore as needed, and black out curtains in her room.

Apart from her beauty and rare condition, she was an exceptional student and daughter. Though she didn’t have an interest in the mob business, she excelled in other things. Mila did ballet, though not a professional like her aunt, she was talented and well liked in her class. Vice versa in her high school (in spite of her protective and intimidating big brother) as well as her piano lessons, she was well rounded and well liked everywhere she went.

“Sash, could we go to the café after supper to study?” Mila asked, looking up at her big brother as she pranced beside him.
Her fluffy white hair was pulled back and braided with a blue ribbon; she was wearing stylish circle lenses over her eyes to protect from the sunlight. Her school uniform clean and fitted appropriately, the skirt worn long rather than modified like how most girl at her school wore it.

Sasha was Mila’s best friend as well as her beloved big brother. While Uncle Dewey thought him rather arrogant and most people found him intimidating, Mila just adored him. She only saw her super hero-princely-teddy bear of a brother, whom though he was her bodyguard she was every bit as protective of him (though she didn’t need to be). Being so attached even if he wasn’t her bodyguard, she would happily invite Sasha anywhere with her.

Sasha Nikitin had grown up to be a stupidly handsome young man with all the right bits from his father with leftovers from his mother. He was a rather tall boy, almost as tall as his father even now, with broad shoulders and long legs. In his face, it was obvious who his father was as he had Adrik's easy smile and straight nose, but just as it was easy to see Adrik in him, it was easy to see Asha too with his sharp eyes and perfectly arched brows.

He looked like the born and bred mob prince that he was.

It was from an early age that he took on the role as foot soldier in the Russian mob, serving directly under his father, aunts, uncle, and grandmother, but it was from an even earlier age than that that he donned the role of guardian for his baby sister Mila and even their littlest (not so little) brother, Viktor. Until earlier this year, whenever the two "baby" Nikitins were out and about, they were rarely seen without Sasha, but Viktor, after having a ridiculous growth spurt (given all credit to his Papa Navrik), joined the wrestling club at school with the insistence that he would be alright on his own. Also, Viktor had insisted that if he ever needed a bodyguard his "Uncle" Dewey could just walk him home since Dimitra was always caught up at school with orchestra practice. Sasha had been reluctant to relinquish his duty to Dewey, as he thought Dewey was a smart shit, but he also knew Viktor's heart was set on it and didn't want to deny him that. So, for now, he settled for just being Mila's full time bodyguard and that was well enough.

Sasha had been skimming over his biology notes when Mila spoke to him, causing him to look up from her.

"Mm, sure. Text Vitya and see if he'll want to go too." Sasha nodded, hardly ever saying no to his sister.

While the siblings went about their usual business, thinking that it was simply a day, they had no idea that it was anything but.

From the vantage point at the top of a red bricked bodega, a (ridiculously) well-dressed young man with mess of blond waves had watched the twosome make their way down the street as he had for many days before.

Calloway Calhoun came from a long line of distinguished hunters. His brother, his father, his grandfather, and even his great grandfather before them had all been hunters, so needless to say it was not only in his blood, it was expected of him to be great.

And he wanted to meet that expectation, lest disappoint his brother and father.

He'd practically begged his father to take care of the job of wiping the latest of a werewolf bloodline clean off the map. Sullivan Calhoun had tried to argue that it would be a big job, but Calloway rebutted that they were young wolves, all just as wet behind the ears in experience as him, though he had the edge of years and years of training. It had been a bit of back and forth, but eventually the elder Calhoun relented, but insisted that Calloway's older brother, Nolan, follow close in the event he needed saving. Calloway was determined to not let that happen though. He wanted all the glory of this being his first kill. All of it.

"Are you going to stop for snacks today?" He asked outloud as he observed closely.

“I’ll text him, but I think he’s going out with some guys from wrestling after practice.” Mila said as she pulled out her phone to send said text.

“Mm, well, remind him that if he does go out to stay sharp. Also, he should come home early enough to study. I know he’s taking Fipp’s algebra class and he makes those tests harder than other teachers.” Sasha said to his sister, going back to his reading as they walked along.

When the duo passed their usual snack pit stop, Calloway took that as his cue and hurried for the edge of the building to slide down the fire escape rack he’d used to scale up the building in the first place. There was an alley two blocks down that the siblings would pass and it had little to no foot traffic nearby usually, making it the ideal place to commit the deed. He hurried towards the alley, trying not to be conspicuous enough for the siblings to notice, though they both seemed occupied enough.

“You don’t give him enough credit, Sash. But I will tell him.” Mila complied.

“I give credit where credit is due. He’s good at plenty of things, just not math.” Sasha said, eyes still on his notes.

Sasha was so distracted by his reading that he didn’t even notice when a handful of lit firecrackers was hurtled over Mila and him as they began to pass the alley mouth. As soon as they landed on the street near them, they began popping wildly. Sasha, upon hearing the noise, dropped his notebook and immediately went to grab Mila by her shoulders to pull her away from the sound and into hiding in the alley.

While Sasha frantically scanned the street for the source of what he thought was gunfire, Calloway Calhoun quickly rushed from the shadows and came at Sasha with a pair of silver “brass knuckles” swinging at his face.

Mila let out a surprised shriek once overwhelmed by the sound of firecrackers. She huddled into Sasha as she had been coached to do in dangerous situations, but as she hid into his side she saw a person emerging from the shadows, swinging at them.

“Sasha, look out!” Mila yelled, trying to push them back and away from the persons advances, her glasses falling off in the motion.

Sasha whirled his head when Mila shouted, moving with her pull just in time to dodge most of Calloway’s strike, though it did brush against his jaw with a subtle hiss from the silver. He grit his teeth and reeled back, tucking Mila securely behind him before he reached to grab the small pistol he kept tucked in a holster beneath his uniform jacket. However, as soon as he raised the weapon, Calloway swung a long leg upward to knock the gun from his grasp.

Mila let out another shriek, surprised and frightened that anyone could disarm her big brother. “Stop this!” She yelled from behind her brother, moving carefully along with him.

Sasha cursed as he dropped his weapon, but immediately drew his hands up, ready to fight hand to hand with their attacker. He wasn’t big and strong like Papa Navrik, not even like his baby brother, but he could stand his own in a fight, especially if it meant protecting Millie. He swung.

Calloway has always been complimented on how fast he was and that speed aided him now as he ducked out of the way of Sasha’s punch and threw himself at he other boy all without being struck.

Mila hugged the wall she was sandwiched against as Sasha did he best to combat their attacker. Mila had no talent for fighting at all, she was fragile appearing and avoided conflict. As fearful as she was, she did her best to look around her brother and attacker for Sasha’s dropped pistol. The alley was dark but not as dark as it would’ve been with her glasses, she winced weakly, trying to force her vision to adjust. Adrik has always advised her to let Sasha protect her, never risk her own safety. But if she could help, just a little bit, by retrieving the gun; maybe they could get out of this unscathed.

Sasha let out a series of pained grunts as Calloway struck him with several hard jabs to his abdomen, his fist finding its way into what felt like under Sasha’s ribs. He sagged a bit, out of breath, and Calloway took the opportunity to pry the Sasha away from Millie and the wall, throwing him towards the ground.

Mila gasped as her brother was pried away from her frame. She was very afraid, her brother whom she loved dearly was bested in combat, she had no means to defend herself and she could barely focus her vision enough to see her attacker. Her eyes were glossy, fearful tears welling and clinging to her frosty lashes. Blinking her bright eyes, she looked up slowly to meet her fate.

“Please don’t hurt my brother anymore...you can kill me if you want, but please leave him alone.” She pleaded. “Just do it quick, please.” She whimpered.

Once he had Sasha on the ground, Calloway proceeded to kneel over him and strike at him several more times, meeting less and less resistance each time as consciousness drifted further and further away from the young werewolf. He was about to pull out the silver “buck knife” he kept strapped at the back of his belt to deal a fatal blow when he heard Mila speak.

He glanced towards her, intending to make some snide remark or to even tell her she was next, but he immediately did a double take upon seeing her. He’d been following the Nikitin kids for weeks now, he knew their names, their schedules, and even where their rooms were in the excessive townhouse they lived in, but this was the first time he was actually seeing Mila.

And she was an angel.

He immediately stopped what he was doing and blinked up at her.

“I’m...I’m sorry, what? I couldn’t hear you over your, well, your everything.” Calloway cheesed.

Mila was teary eyed and confused, was he messing with her? Was she really supposed to repeat herself?

“I said, please don’t hurt my brother anymore. You can just kill me instead...” Mila muttered quietly, choking back a sob as she looked down at her brother.
