It is often said that your sibling is your first real best friend. They are the first people you come into contact with that can share the similar experience of "growing up", which often makes for camaraderie. And while this sort of companionship often buds similar interests...the Castillo siblings could not be any different.
Everyone knew Lua to be the rambunctious wild child of Nevandre and Irene Castillo, but as it turned out, less people knew about Jackson Castillo in general. He was a quiet boy with quiet interests, completely unlike his sister. While Lua had the kind of personality that attracted attention, Jackson had one that eluded it. Since childhood, when most are at their most unruly phase, Jackson found solace in tucking himself away with a book. When he was small, he'd often hide himself and a good book under his father's desk in the living area while Nevandre penned novels of his own, but since he'd grown bigger, he settled for the porch swing outside or lazing in the breakfast nook bench while his mother cooked for the family and told him of her day.
It was his interest in reading that prompted his mother to ask for work at the local library for him during his final days of high school. He of course got the job, being the good boy he was, and he dedicated many of his after school hours to it, but following his graduation this most recent year, he decided to dedicate even more time to it during a gap year. His parents never really worried about Jackson and his academics, he was always at the top of his class without ever really needing to try too hard, so they didn't so much bat an eye at the idea of a gap year.
Not like the way he "bat an eye" when he found the unnaturally large mythical looking snake taking up all the space in the library as he was trying to open up shop for the day.
He had opened the door and promptly closed it before he could be seen and dialed the only number for help he knew besides 911: The Society. He'd spoken briefly with someone who promised someone would be on the way to rid him of this dilemma. He only hoped they'd show up before any library visitors came. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.

The compound was a full house, somehow still, even after Uncle Black and his little family moved out. Lilith thought maybe she would inherit that whole wing to herself, she was the oldest after all. Much to her dismay, that wing was given to her, and her two brothers Scott, and Lazlo. She loved all her siblings, and she got along well enough with Scott who kept to himself mostly. And she related to Lazlo, both of them being terribly gifted and hard working while still always getting bested by Scott somehow.
The younger kids were fine, but somehow three felt like ten. Somehow they seemed to multiply at every mission, sparring and even meal time. So when Lilith walked in the kitchen for breakfast, pandemonium spilling out along with some milk and OJ, she was hasty to accept a mission. ALONE. She felt a little bad, it probably would've been helpful to Phlox had she taken at least Ramsey off her hands. But looking out the window of the train to Lake Placid, she exhaled deeply through her nose and briefly sunk into her seat. The trip and scenery was relaxing, which can't hurt before having to impale a demon snake.
She hopped off the train and crossed town on foot toward the library, this town was so small, renting a car seemed super unnecessary. She saw a figure waiting outside and called out to them.
"Hey! I'm here about a snake." She called, waving at the person as she jogged up.
Lilith was often affectionately called, 'the bionic amazon,' by her Father. She was tall and fit, right around five foot nine with contoured biceps and abs beneath her clothes. She had lost her right leg during a hunting accident when she was a teen, but she was quite proud of her mechanical supplement though it encouraged a lot of staring. The rest of her family only got gawked out for their unearthly red hair. |

Jackson had resigned himself to a perch on a rock formation outside the library, frowning as he listened to the snake bring havoc on the books and shelving units inside. He was already loathing how much work it was going to take to clean up the mess (not counting the mess the snake itself was going to make). He looked up when he heard someone call out and he stood up.
"Yeah, there's...um...yeah, a monster in there?" He gestured to the library window, where the snake could be seen slithering even. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

Lilith peeked into the window and nodded, observing the snake a moment before resting back on her heels.
"Alright, easy enough." She said, shrugging off her backpack to grant easier access to the katana on her back. Lilith was pretty well rounded with different weapons. Dad swore by his guns, Uncle Black swore by his sword; Lilith liked a little bit of everything. On most hunts, her go to was pinyin blades but she carried a tech 9 on each hip just in case. But those wouldn't due today, not for a basilisk. Today she brought her own katana, specially made for her. "Do you have any idea where he got in?" She asked then. |

Jackson gave an exaggerated shrug.
"You got me. Seems a little silly to assume it sneaked himself in, even sillier to assume someone just opened the front door for him." He said. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

"I mean, it's pretty silly to assume someone would want to dump this thing in a library. But, if that's you saying there's only one way in and out, I will let myself in." Lilith shrugged back before walking up to the door. "Watch my backpack please. I'll be right back." She said over her shoulder before slipping into the library and shutting the door behind her. |

"That's not a silly assumption, there's good and useful books in there." Jackson grumbled with pursed lips as he went ahead and grabbed the back, carrying it over towards the window so he could get a better look at the action.
Inside, the giant snake hissed idly as he made his way through the aisles, slithering from side to side completely unknowing of his fate. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

Once inside, Lilith rolled up her sleeves before pulling her sword off her back and actively looking down and away. It's common knowledge, at least in the hunter community, a single glance from a basilisk will kill you instantly. When she was a girl, Jack would have her practice blindfolded so she didn't rely on sight by default. Sometimes she would still have to close her eyes, but actively avoiding their gaze was second nature.
She swung her sword around somewhat idly, the way a child might with a stick. Lilith walked a fine line between being serious and being a child, implying both her parents left large enough impressions on her. She paused at the aisle the snake was turning down before pulling herself up one handed to perch atop of the bookshelf. It wobbling a little under the weight of her metal leg but supported her still. Waiting for the serpent to slide down said aisle, she dropped down. Straddling either side of his body before spearing it straight through it's head. |

The snake let out a loud, yet brief, shriek of pain before collapsing, a sound Jackson replicated when he watched the snake's blood spatter and ooze on the nearby books and shelves.
"Those are the rare books!" He cried mournfully with his face pressed against the glass by this point. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

Lilith yanked back the sword, getting spattered with blood herself she haphazardly wiped her face with her shirt sleeve before sheathing her sword. Stepping over the snake somewhat awkwardly, she skipped off toward the door and opened it up for the man.
"All done, you can read in peace now." She said. |

"W-w-w...the books...those books...they're ruined!" Jackson exclaimed. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

Lilith looked over her shoulder back into the library, and made a slight face.
"Well...Yeah, for sure, they're ruined." Lilith nodded in agreement. "Man, what're you gonna do?" She asked then. |

"W-what do you mean? I...I...oh my god, those were all so rare..." Jackson reached up to scrub at his face. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

"I mean, the good news is that the blood isn't poisonous. It's even pretty mucus-y so maybe your hardcovers will survive." Lilith shrugged. |

"Survive? Oh man..." Jackson shook his head and proceeded to shuffle into the building towards the snake corpse and the books. He stooped over to grab a book off the shelf and watched as it dripped apart more or less. "Oh noooooo." He groaned. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |
