Valentina was almost done with her routes for the day, which was a little early for her. It was a beautiful day, the young girl whizzed by traffic on her turquoise colored moped. Bucharest was a big enough city that her job as a bike courier was pretty lucrative though not a real career, as her father often boasted. But she loved the freedom it gave her, and after her shift, however long she wanted it to be, she would whip into the pub and hang out with her friends. Although things had been a little dicey lately, a few years ago there was an increase in farm animals that were being mauled mysteriously in the night or mornings. No one or guard animal was able to catch it. And as time progressed, there had also been a string of disappearances in the city. Man, women and children alike coming up dead or missing. Were they related? Who knows.
While it was concerning, since she often stayed late in the city, they only thing that lingered in the back of her mind was her own brother's disappearance. She often wondered if he was the first victim, but either way she was sure he was long gone.
She shook off such bleak thoughts as she dropped off her last package, heading straight for the Fire Club and parked her moped outside. The door was propped open and there were a handful of people inside already being that the pub doubled as a breakfast and lunch cafe during the day. She put her helmet on the bar before pulling herself up onto the stool.
"Hey Ion!" She called, waving to a tall and lean bearded man, who turned to smile at her.
"Valentina, you're in early. Drink?" He offered.
"No, not yet at least. Can you set me up with some food? My usual?" She asked, smoothing out her pixie which was ruffled from her helmet.
"Of course, coming right up." He nodded, jotting on a ticket and walking it back to the kitchen, disappearing behind a green door. |

Rundin was a proud Romanian. Even when he'd found his residency in New York City, his blood ached for his motherland and everything tied to it. That being said, he hadn't been back in a handful of years given the busy nature of his occupation and even though this was technically a work trip, he was undeniably happy to be back in Romania, even if it was vastly different than he remembered it.
He'd been born in a small village nestled in the countryside, in the same village and even the same hut where his mother had been born. His mother raised him alone for the better part of his youth, never speaking of his father, and when he had become a young man she wed a monster and that was how he had become the way he was now: a monster himself seeking justice and condemnation of the ones who wrought havoc on the innocent.
Which was why he was back in Romania now.
There had been a sudden increase in strange disappearances and deaths, all somehow relating to a feral animal or animals in a little village outside of Bucharest. The information was garbled at best, but he was hear to make sense of it and, if his suspicions were correct, to make arrest.
But, like every investigation, he had to do a bit of nosing around so he could get a start in the right direction.
He had landed in Romania not too long ago and had immediately went to get checked into his hotel. After a brief rest and some freshening up, he went out to the more "local" types of businesses to snuff out information. He found a little pub called The Fire Club and opted to start there. He went in and did an immediate scan of the room. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

Valentina was leaning on her elbow, cheek resting in her palm while her free hand drummed on the bar while she waited for her food. There was a murmuring suddenly, among the bar. Aside from tourists, most people who came in were familiar faces. Curious, Valentina looked over her shoulder and felt her heart start pounding almost immediately.
Valentina seen handsome men everyday, she'd even dated a few. But something about this man made space and time stop upon walking in the door and bothering people who clearly weren't interested in talking to him. She collected herself, smoothing out her hair and brushing off her sleeves before waving over at him. Did he need directions or something? Did he need someone who speaks English? She could do those things, anything for some kind of interaction. |

Rundin surveyed the room and found his gaze falling on a young woman...waving at him? He cocked a brow and looked behind him and when he saw no one there, he looked to her and pointed to himself.
"Me?" He asked in Romanian. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

"Da." Valentina nodded, continuing to wave him over. |

Rundin held his brow quirked, but continued over.
"Can I, em, help you?" He asked. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

"I was going to ask you, I saw you trying to talk to people, going from person to person. I thought you might be lost or needing some help?" Valentina asked. |

"I see, I must look out of place." Rundin gave a chuckle then. "But I am needing help, sort of." He admitted. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

"A little but it's not a bad thing, shoot, what can I help with?" She asked, patting the stool next to her for him to have a seat. |

Rundin went ahead and took the seat, turning to face the girl more openly. He offered a hand out for a shake.
"Thank you for offering to help me, I'm Rundin." He introduced. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

"I'm Valentina." She smiled, shaking his hand. How formal and gentlemanly, her Father would be pleased. |

"Nice to meet you Valentina." Rundin said, admittedly admiring Valentina a bit. "So...that help I was needing. My grandmother lives in a village not too far from here and she's been telling me about these strange disappearances that have been going on. I worry about her, but I don't know how serious they are since I no longer live here in Romania. I was wondering if anyone knew anything. Should I be worried for her?" _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

"Oooooh, I see." Valentin exclaimed. Just then Ion dropped a plate in front of her, complete with a large hamburger with pickle spears and fries on the side.
"Ion, could you bring out another for my friend please?" She asked the bar tender then.
He pursed his lips. "I need to get the bar ready."
"Please? It's our first date, we'll be awhile." She nodded, pouting her lip somewhat.
Ion sighed, rolled his eyes a bit. "I'll be right back." He said before disappearing again.
"Well, I would worry for your Grandmother. If she lives in the countryside it might be best just to move." Valentina said, picking at her fries. "It started a couple years ago but it was really bad off the bat though worse now. My family lives in the country side too, all the time animals- Large animals, horses and cattle, taken and left mauled to pieces in the forests." She began nodding. |

"I'd hate for her to move. It's the family home." Rundin lied, feigning sorrow. "Do they know what's doing it? Is it an animal?" _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts. |

"We're all guessing animal? But it's spread to the city now, people are missing, being found in pieces anywhere between the city into the countryside. Wolves have never given us this much trouble before. Whatever it is, it's got everyone on edge." Valentina explained. |
