“I..-“ Manon began with her own thoughtful pause. “I love you too, get here safe.” She replied with a quiet exhale. She did love Yoo In, and even if she was angry with him, even if she was unsure of his crimes, she couldn’t turn off her feelings so easily. She loved him and she wanted to hear what he had to say.

Yoo In made his way to the hospital as he said he would, keeping as low a profile as he could given everyone's suspicions about his involvement with the attack. Dressed in a hoody, a beanie, and even a face mask, he was hopeful that no one who knew him and was looking for him would recognize him.

I'm downstairs, can't go in. Too many Society officers. He texted as he shuffled around the hospital entrance that had people coming and going. Some of those leaving, surely, were those who had been at city hall and weren't bad enough off to merit an overnight stay. Most of them wore bandages here and there to cover up small stitches, perhaps from shattering glass, but a few had shattered collarbones and broken arms cradled in slings. He couldn't imagine the state of JJ.

I’ll be right down. Manon texted before going to leave the hospital room once more, announcing she was going to get some fresh air. She made her way down the hospital floor before speed walking outside and looking both ways for Yoo In.

She followed her nose and was directed to a person in a dark hoodie and wore a hat and face covering. Yoo In no doubt, she though before hurrying over to him. Normally when she was meeting Yoo In, she would jog up and jump into his arms, it was always an eager and longing embrace as though they hadn’t seen each other in a long time; even if it had only been several hours. It was almost a reflex to throw herself into his arms but her jog slowed to a stop. Manon didn’t want to hug him before hearing what he had to say.

Yoo In turned without thought or hesitation to face Manon. They had been together long enough that he was often aware of her presence before he saw her. It always gave him enough time to prepare to catch her or eagerly sweep her off her feet, but now he had to keep his arms down at his sides instead.

"Manon, I-" Yoo In stopped, not quite sure what to say or even where to start. "I-I'm sorry."

“Tell me what you’re apologizing for, what did you have to do with this?” She asked, brows furrowed and eyes pleading. “Tell me everything.”

"Okay." Yoo In agreed quickly, because he always did when Manon asked questions of him. "Will you sit with me?" He asked, bobbing his head towards an unoccupied bench a bit away from the entrance and heavy foot traffic.

“Yes,” Manon nodded in agreement, assuming privacy from any prying or passing ears would be for the best. She followed him over to the bench and sat down, smoothing her school skirt under her before sitting.

Yoo In sat down beside Manon and there was a silent beat between them until he pulled his mask down below his chin to speak.

"I was at one of the Faction offices today, just doing our usual work, nothing big. I was putting together pamphlets and I happened to overhear some of our higher ups talking about...well, this." He explained, his brows pinching as he did so. "We've never been afraid to get rowdy, like at rallies or whatever, but... intentionally hurting people isn't supposed to be a part of the agenda. Especially hurting people like us. Manon... I would never try to hurt your dad or anyone else. I was trying to get there, I swear. I wanted to help JJ and everyone else."

Manon was a little quiet, contemplative.

“Okay, so you heard about their plan...Then what? Were you going there to warn him?” Manon asked, trying to make sense of everything, and fill in the blanks on the narrative.

"Warn him, stop what was happening, anything." Yoo In answered without hesitation. "I stand by the original ideology of the Faction. I want a better place for people like us to exist in peace, but not like that. Not like this." He shook his head.

“Did you make it to him? Did you see him before he got hurt?” Manon asked then. “Did you know he was alive when you left him?” She asked, somewhat bitterly. While Manon had a vague understanding of The Faction, she understood that Yoo In might’ve looked bad if found at the scene of the crime. But she couldn’t imagine seeing her Dad hurt and leaving his side.

"No, I didn't make it and...I didn't know if he was alive or if-" Yoo In said, frowning remorsefully at Manon's bitterness towards him. He deserved it, he supposed, but knowing that didn't get rid of the sting.

“If you knew he could’ve been hurt...I wish you would’ve told me. I was calling you, and calling you and I didn’t know what was going on.” Manon went on, she was fighting back tears now, staring up at a distant street lamp to try and prolong any crying. “It’s scary. I’m still scared. I don’t want anything bad to happen to my Dad, but I don’t want to lose you either.”

"I didn't want to scare you." Yoo In said, though his tone was clearly remorseful about having done much worse than that. Though he worried it might not be well received, he reached out to pet at Manon's hand when he saw her biting back tears. "I wish you didn't have to be scared, Manon. I'm sorry that you are." He swallowed thick.
