“Yeah, there’s not much out here, period. But that’s why it’s so fun to go into the city when we have the time or whenever Mom and Dad want to visit with our grandparents.” Romano explained. “Sometimes we go have dinner at their place, but if you ask me, Dads cooking is much better than Grand-mère‘s.” He grinned at that, as if it was a cheeky little secret he was sharing.

“How would she react if she heard you say that?” Jai asked, leaning in and rolling with the concept it was a secret and someone might hear.

“She’s very soft, she would probably cry, which is why we don’t say it or anything else that might wound her. It probably pains her enough that her grandchildren are so American.” Romano leaned in to share his secret and laughed a bit at the last part.

Jai tossed his head back and laughed at the last part, Romano was funny, he was cute too; a notion that made Jai flush slightly. But he wasn’t going to push his luck in the romance department, he was happy enough that he seemed to have made a friend.

“You’re fun, Romano.” Jai remarked aloud. “I’m happy to have met you. I was worried about meeting new people.” He admitted.

“Why? You’re so easy to get on with.” Romano said, sincerely, because that’s how all of Remy and Romulus’s kids were.

“Mm, I could see that. Our cousin Sasha can definitely be a piece of work, but I always thought that was more of a Sasha thing.” Romano nodded. “But we don’t bite.” He added with a grin.

“Oh, well, you see, I’m what they call a big deal around here.” Romano grinned, chest puffing out.

“No he’s not. He’s just the leader of a pack of feral neighborhood kids.” Cal called from where he and the others kept pace.

Romano made a face at Calloway.

“Okay, so I manage a group of kids sorta. I donno. I just like goofing off, playing games, pranks, whatever.” He said.

“Ah not much,” Jai admitted sheepishly. “I keep to myself a lot, I play video games, I craft, I read. My Mom and I are binging the Great British Bake-off right now but I don’t know if either of us like it that much.”
