"Well what I would do is, I would get like a sandwich bag, or sometimes even a sock and cut a tiny hole in them. I would tie some yarn around it and add some length; tie it to my belt loop. Then, I'd fill them with like, honey and egg yolks. Sometimes medicine or maple syrup, like the thicker the better snail trail." Shika explained as he applied brush strokes to Bix's face. "I would pull my hood up over my head or take my sisters backpack for a shell; everyone hated it." Shika laughed.

"Momma, wassa snail?" Bixley asked. "And why they sound gross?" She tried her best to sit still, not wanting Shika to mess up, but it was hard for her not to try and turn and look at Wyla.

Wyla smiled and reached over to stop her from turning her head with a gentle prod to her cheek.

"Gotta be still." She said before letting out a thoughtful 'hmm'. "Well, Shika was a snail once, so maybe you should ask him."

"You was a snail? Not a boy?" Bixley asked, confused by that.

"I was a snail, the same way you're going to be a chicken." Shika said with a smile. "A snail…It's not a bug, but it might as well be. They don't have any legs, just a shell and they sort of…Ooze around?" He tried to explain in terms the little girl could understand.

"Ooze?" Bixley asked.

"They're suuuuuuper slimy. Like pancake syrup and they slide around on it. Right, Shika?" Wyla explained with a little grin.

Bixley gazed into the mirror and let out an exaggerated gasp as she raised a hand to touch at her cheek gently.

"I beautiful." She said, earning a laugh from Wyla.

Shika couldn't help but laugh too. "You flatter me, kiddo." He said before pulling out his phone to bring up a picture of a snail before showing it to Bix. "Here, this guy is a snail."

"Well...I like that they don't bite or scream, something you shouldn't do, by the by. But they're not my favorite. Toooooo sticky." Wyla smiled. "You make a beautiful chicken, baby." She added.

"T'anks. Now...you paint Momma?" Bix turned to Shika.
