Spider situated himself on his bottom, and crossed his legs and helped Stasi ease into his lap as he dabbed her forehead with the wet rag. It wasn’t long before Nikita appeared in the bathroom doorway then, having heard Stasi no doubt. Nikita looked like a new person in a way, she seemed taller since Disneyland. Her hair had grown out and she’d dyed it jet black, she’d even taken to straightening it in the morning after breakfast. She still had a little silver barbel in her eyebrow, which now looked healed and normal. Nikita’s intention was to not look like Spider anymore, it was a source of great annoyance for her. In public and with the Nikitn’s, it had been remarked more than once that they had a strong family resemblance, with their ash blonde hair and sharp emerald eyes. But the stark black hair color and new facial piercing did little in actuality to separate them in appearance. It seemed they looked most alike when scowling, which was something they both did a fair amount of.
Though Nikita scowled often because of her vile attitude toward most things, she had an unspoken fondness for Stasi. She often felt like someone on Nikita’s side of things, though she had loyalty to Spider, Nikita still felt some sort of kinship toward Stasi.
“What’s wrong with her?” Nikita asked as she stood in the doorframe with her arms crossed. She was still in her pajamas, an almost matching set in black. Nikita hadn’t quite filled out yet, still long and skinny as the day she arrived. Her pajama top hung off her shoulder, indicating its slightly too big fit. The pants were pulled taut at the waist with a tie, but they still sagged slightly.
“She’s sick, can you turn the kettle on for tea?” Spider asked Nikita without looking at her. He knew she would normally never do anything Spider asked, but if he was for Stasi maybe she would?
“Sick? She must’ve got too good a look at you this morning.” Nikita said, beginning in English, but ending with her insult in Russian. “I can call Peter.” She suggested then.
“Do you want me to call, Peter?” Spider asked Stasi then.
"I don't know, maybe?" Stasi grumbled, her hand drifting down to cradle at her stomach. "I don't know if it's worth bothering him if it's just an upset stomach."
She opened her eyes, brows lightly furrowed as she looked up at Nikita from where she had her head rested on Spider's lap. "Did I wake you up?" She asked. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Nikita crouched down, leaning down over bent knees as she observed Stasi. She felt somewhat protective of her, in the way that she’s seen Stasi sick and hurting before.
“Actually, it was Spider’s big feet stomping down the hall, that woke me.” Nikita said to Stasi, not flickering a glance to Spider. “I’ll call him. Whatever is wrong, I’m sure there’s a pill for it.” Nikita said, releasing a sigh before standing up and retreating down the hall to make the call.
Stasi watched Nikita’s retreating back before letting out a little puff of laughter and tilting her head to look up at Spider. She reached up to lightly pat at his cheek.
“She’s right, you do have big feet.” She teased before mustering herself and sitting up. Her stomach still felt hot, but she didn’t feel the immediate urge to puke again at least. “I should brush my teeth and wash my face, but I think I’d like that tea afterwards.” She looked to Spider. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Spider sort of scoffed and rolled his eyes as the comment about his feet, he also wanted to quip back that Nikita had big feet also. But it was not important, so he rose to his feet to better assist Stasi to hers.
“I’ll make you some.” He said before placing a light peck at the top of her head.
Spider retreated from the bathroom, and into their kitchen. Nikita was sitting at the kitchen island, knees folded to her chest as she scrolled through Spider's phone. He knew he hadn't given her the password, maybe Stasi had given it to her?
"Did you call?" Spider asked in English, as he turned the knob on the stovetop to ignite a blue flame. Spider took down the kettle from the cabinet, it was luxury tea kettle, a thing Spider hadn't known existed. It was a wedding present from Vania Nikitin, perhaps one of the more posh of the bunch. It was called a Sapper Kettle, designed by someone important a long time ago. it was stainless steel with a mirrored polish that allowed you to see your obscured reflection in the metal. The whistle was brass, and the handle was black polyamide. When it whistles, the notes are supposed to be E and B, but Spider would never know the difference.
"да." Nikita answered in Russian, not looking up from his phone.
Spider looked over and saw that she was scrolling on instagram.
"Don't tell lies, and practice your English." Spider said, wagging an unapproving finger as he scolded her.
"Блять." Nikita said, sticking out her tongue and flipping the bird.
Spider shook his head and rolled his eyes before snatching his phone out of her hands. He opted to send Peter a text message since it was still early, and things didn't feel emergent yet. He explained the situation and Stasi's more obvious symptoms. It had not yet occurred to him yet that there was a possibility Stasi was pregnant.
Stasi stood with her hands braced on the edge of the bathroom counter for a long beat after Spider left her there, eyes closed and head hung as she tried to gather herself to save at least a little face for whenever he returned. Eventually, she reached out to turn on the sink, waiting a moment longer just listening to the water bubble into the drain before setting to work. She grabbed the abandoned washcloth Spider had used and rewet it with warm water and used it to scrub at her face. She always felt a little grimy after making sick, sticky with sweat and tears, and instantly felt a little better at having wiped her face off. She set the washcloth aside and splashed a little more water on her face before opening the mirror cabinet where she and Spider kept their toothbrushes. She grabbed her toothbrush, but made a face when there was no toothpaste to be found. Maybe Spider had used the rest of it and hadn't put the new tube up to replace it. She huffed and bent over to open up the drawer at her waist where they kept the refills of their toiletries, the various boxes clattering as they slid forward as the drawer was pulled open. She went to grab the toothpaste box, but hesitated when another box at the back caught her attention: a pregnancy test box.
After their last lost, Stasi and Spider had gone to great lengths to practice safe sex. Spider had pushed for it since he didn't want to put any more strain on Stasi's body after so many losses in such a short time. This suited Stasi just fine, she didn't think her body or her mind could handle another loss so soon, plus they had so much on their plate between wedding planning and the still new day to day of raising Nikita. However, during their honeymoon, they were so swept up in the joy of it all that there were a few instances that Stasi could recall where they treated their birth control with less care. Stasi didn't think it was likely, but not impossible that she might be...
Her hand slowly went to her stomach and she stood there with water still running and eyes glued to the pregnancy test. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
After Spider finished texting Peter, he turned his attention back to making Stasi's tea. He opted for chamomile and mint, to help settle her stomach and combat any remaining nausea. He even took a lemon from the fruit bowl on the counter, slicing it on the counter and squeezing a wedge of it into the mug.
"Do you want breakfast?" Spider asked Nikita without turning to face her.
"I want you to choke." Nikita answered back, also without lifting her gaze to look at Spider.
He was used to this by now, he only really care about intentional physical advances, which were few and far between these days, thank goodness. So he decided her evil words and ill wishes were empty enough.
"Can you tell Stasi that her tea is almost ready?" Spider asked Nikita in English.
Nikita slid off the barstool with special exasperation, something about being a preteen girl was so hard. Nikita didn't answer back in English or Russian, but instead padded back down the hall relay the message to Stasi. She appeared in the doorway of the bathroom, behind Stasi.
"The princess's tea will be ready soon." Nikita declared aloud, arms crossed over her chest.
Stasi startled at the sound of Nikita’s voice, but quickly saved face before shutting the drawer and turning to face the girl. She offered a smile, one that was just a bit too tense but sje was hopeful enough Nikita wouldn’t realize that.
“Thank you. Can you have Spider come bring it to me?” She asked in Russian. She knew Nikita needed to work on her English, but when it was just the two of them, she let the girl speak Russian without comment. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"To the bathroom? Will you drink it in here?" Nikita asked then. She observed Stasi for a beat, she did not catch the swiftness in which Stasi closed the drawer. But she did notice the intensity behind her smile, though it was small, it was thin and tight lipped. It was not a relaxed smile; she was fawning for some reason.
" Why are you being like that?" Nikita asked then, green eyes flitting her up and down, examining her for any other tells.
Stasi was surprised by Nikita's perceptiveness, but didn't falter as she shook her head.
"I don't know what you mean." Stasi said before feigning to have spotted something in Nikita's hair. She stepped forward, squinting her eyes and raised her hand to finger through her curls. "I think I see some of your roots." She said, hoping that the idea of her Spider-like blond peeking through would be enough to deter her from further inquiries. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"What?" She exclaimed in English, jerking away from Stasi's hand, she peek around her to try and glance in the mirror. "Already? No!"" Nikita exclaimed further before turning on her heel and stomping down the hallway. She passed Spider, who was on his way with Stasi's tea, in passing she made sure to shoulder check Spider. This caused him to spill some of the tea, he sighed in annoyance. He should've expected it in truth.
Stasi grimaced when she heard the telltale sound of liquid sloshing and spilling from down the hall. She poked her head out of the bathroom and looked to where Spider was, her face scrunching with a little frown.
"Sorry about that." She said. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Spider carefully stepped over the little puddle of tea that now pooled at his feet. He reached to hand the mug to Stasi, careful not to spill anymore as he offered it to her.
"It's okay, there's still some in there. I'll clean this up too." He said.
