"I was just looking at the bouquets here, I thought it might be cheaper than going to a florist." Shika explained.

"Uh yeah, maybe." Grey shrugged.

Shika was starting to pick up on the tone of the conversation, he furrowed his brows and made a bit of a face but tried to force a smile.

"It's okay, if you don't want me to talk to you. I just assumed we were okay." Shika said then.

"Oh no. It's not that I don't want you too. I just didn't know, why you would want to? I mean, Kisa IS your sister." Grey began.

"Yeah, but what she did was wrong. My sister is my sister but she's never been that great of a person. I'd like to be your friend, Emerson's too. It might be less lonely." Shika explained with a shrug of his own.

Grey felt guilty then and turned to Emerson, not sure how much of the conversation he caught from reading lips.

"Did you catch any of that?" She asked.

Emerson slightly made a face and made a little, comical shrug.

"I think?" He proceeded to sign. "He wants to be friends?"

"Yeah, why not?" Emerson signed with a nod, glancing at Shika and giving a pleasant little smile.

Grey nodded and smiled softly before turning to Shika.

"Do you want to come over to Emerson's? We're getting ready for a cookout." Grey offered.

Shika smiled and nodded graciously. "I'd like that. When should I go over?"

"Give us like two hours, finish shopping and get the grill going." Grey nodded.

"Wonderful. Just text me the address?" Shika asked as began stepping away from her cart.

"Sure, see you soon." Grey said, waving goodbye.

Emerson gave Shika a nod and a thumbs up before looking back at Grey to see where they were off to now that the "interruption" was done with.

After gathering all the things they wanted on their burgers and hotdogs, the twosome returned to the fort to get things set up. Setting the groceries down on the counter and getting some serving plates for the patties Grey had a realization. She waved at Emerson to get his attention so she could sign to him.

"I don't think I've ever seen your backyard, that's where the grill is, right?" She asked.

Emerson pulled an embarrassed expression, not realizing up until then that this sort of get together would require the backyard where the grill was.

"It...is back there. But the yard is...less than impressive." Emerson signed, by which he meant it was a glorified sandlot.

"Well, I can always grill and bring in everything inside? We can all eat family style at the table?" Grey offered.

"How bad can it be?" She asked before going out the backdoor leading to the yard.

"It's bad, at least, compared to my parents' place or whatever. It's pretty much...a dirt lot with bad storage and tarps. It's like skid row." Emerson exaggerated.

It was just as Emerson had described, good thing he was deaf or he'd hear Grey's gasp upon opening the back door. It looked like a construction zone but nothing was being built, it was literally an empty dirt lot. She took a breath before stepping outside and holding the door open for Emerson.

"One thing is for sure, this yard has to shape up before you ever have kids." Grey said aloud, knowing Emerson might only catch parts of that sentence. It was mostly for herself.
