Havania blinked, taken aback for a moment at the confession, before her face broke into a wide grin that made her eyes turn into happy little crescent moons above her cheeks.
"You do?" She asked, though, if Navrik was one thing for certain it was honest. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"I love you too." Havania admitted in return, but not in the way where it was only said because Navrik had said it, rather, the way where it was certainly something she felt. She'd never had any real relationships before, but she knew what she had with Navrik was special to say the least. "Since you love me and all, is it okay if I stay here for the night? I'm very tired now and don't think I could stay awake to catch my subway stop if I wanted to." _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“You can stay as long as you want.” Navrik smiled, stroking her cheek with his thumb. “I’ll make sure the apartment smells like coffee when you wake up.”
It was almost impossible for Havania to recall what her life had been like pre-Navrik, and just as well, it was a (nearly literal) lifetime ago. She hadn't been looking for love or even a lustful and brief sort of romance when she and Navrik met, but somehow, despite that and all of Navrik's social shortcomings, he swept her off her feet and made her fall deeply, deeply, deeply in love with him.
Throughout the years, they had built a life together, he had built her a house which they turned into a home, they even raised up several rowdy kids, all of which were off starting families or pursuing lives of their own. It was a wonderful and bittersweet sort of life now, more and more "bitter" than the sweet these days as Havania and Navrik managed their empty nest. Sure, there was the occasional visit from her kids and their kids respectively here and there, but for the most part it was just her and Navrik now, and while that certainly had perks of its own, Havania admittedly missed that fulfilling feeling of a full house and being met with the little pitter-patter of feet echoing hers and the squabbling of chubby hands for hers. She missed watching Navrik snuggle their littles on the couch, offering them the sort of calm she often lacked.
Today was a more bittersweet sort of day, neither too sweet nor too bitter, as she milled about the yard, tending to little fixes in the yard that weren't really worthy of Navrik's effort with little goats flocking at her feet. She picked a few weeds here and there, dragged some wood debris from Navrik's work area to be closer to the trash bins, and she even went to the goat's enclosure and cleaned up some of their mess, though they rarely were kept in there in reality. She shooed off the goats to mind their own, something they were happy to do as the skittered off, and she went to head into the house through the mudroom so she could start a late lunch for her and Navrik.
As she stood at the door, prying off her boots, she reached her hand up to hold herself upright on the door frame. She glanced up when she felt the uneven spots in the wood where little notches had been carved out beside names and dates of all their kids. She smiled fondly at the markings and ran her hand down to the littlest one up there left there marked with Owen's name at just a year old. The other kids hadn't started getting measured until they were two or three years old, but Owen was so persistent that he get marked just like the big kids. The memory made her sigh wistfully as she continued on taking off her boots to head inside. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
The emptiness and the quiet was becoming more pronounced to Navrik as well, as all of their children were finally out of the house, there was less noise and less...Everything. Havania was Navrik’s everything, that was true. But she made all their little babies that became extensions of Navrik’s self and he was feeling those phantom limbs since they’d all moved out. Navrik loved his quiet life, he loved mostly being a house husband, manning their property and looking after their troupe of mini’s. He was upstairs, doing some light maintenance. When Asha moved out her room go turned into a guest bedroom, it was the same for the rest of the children. Not that they got many guests that weren’t still their children or grandchildren, but the rooms looked strange empty with only loose socks and dust bunnies left behind. So Navrik fixed them back up, made them look nice just so it didn’t feel so haunted.
Lucinda’s has taken the longest, so much clutter and wall decoration; he was filling holes from nails and thumb tacks for days. He was in the process of pulling down wallpaper when he noticed something on the wall, he squinted and leaned down to see something carved into the wall near the floor.
Lucinda ❤️ Adrik
Navrik threw back his head and let out a hearty belly laugh. He’d forgotten all about that bizarre little love triangle from when Asha, Adrik and Lucinda were young. He fumbled with his phone to try and take a picture, he’d heard the door open downstairs and he assumed it was his wife.
“Havania? Get up here, you gotta see this.” Navrik called.
Havania looked to the stairs, smiling when she heard her husband's laugh and amused call. She bypassed the kitchen and lunch temporarily to join him. She made her way up the stairs, pausing once or twice to realign a photo frame or two that had skewed ever so slightly. She followed the sound of Navrik's laughter to Lucinda's room. She went up behind him and looped her arms around his waist, stretching and craning to look passed his frame.
"What is it?" She asked him. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Havania squinted at the writing and almost immediately let out a amused laugh of her own.
"Excuse me, this is your daughter's handiwork. You're the hopeless romantic in this relationship." Havania teased. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"I miss all our kids." Havania sighed herself, her smile soft and a bit sad as she thought about how much she missed their children, about how much she missed being a mom. "We were good at being parents, weren't we?" _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“We still are but, I mean...” Navrik gave a thoughtful pause. He’d never really had the specific thought that they were done having kids. Navrik was fairly certain he didn’t want that, not right now...Another baby could be really nice. “We could again.” He finished.
Havania blinked, surprised at her husband's suggestion, but not...put off by it, she found. She pulled back from him, just enough to get around to face him better.
"Do you mean that?" She asked, a bit hopeful. She'd be a liar if she said she hadn't had the same thought. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“I do...I mean, unless you don’t want to. We could just keep getting goats.” Navrik shrugged. “I’m already tearing down this wallpaper, I could make a really cool nursery, like do one off Pinterest. I could even make one of the other rooms a play room.” He nodded, already feeling excited about the prospect.
"As much as I love the idea of getting more goats, I think I like the idea of having another little you to chase around the house just a bit more." Havania laughed, her smile growing then as she reached up to cup at Navrik's face. "Should we do it then? Try for another baby?" _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
