It was normal for Navrik to idly pace the streets. In some of his PTSD therapy sessions, they suggested 'exposure therapy.' It was impossible to take him back to Hun raids, and he'd never see the faces of his victims again. But rush hour in the city was just enough to jostle him; fear before clarity. His heart would pound and he'd begin to sweat, but after awhile the noise stopped and his heart rate would slow and normalize.
There was something in the air though, he raised his face to the sky and tried to catch it on the wind. He couldn't pin it for anything more then trouble.
Havania was beat, then again, she always felt beat. She'd worked a double at the diner she served at and she still had to make time to pick up dinner as well as some flu medicine for her youngest brother, Nevandre, who'd been staving off his illness for the better part of a week to no success. She was beginning to worry, but Nevandre had insisted it wasn't as bad as she thought. Regardless, she was tired and just wanted to be home (or whatever you called their set up) so she could take care of him and lay down for awhile.
She'd wrestled her way through the crowds that came with the evening rush, but now she was easing by as everyone thinned out. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Navrik had turned his head down and away from the sky and began walking away, just in time to collide with another person. He wasn't historically clumsy, but on his bad days things could get foggy; he'd get distracted. He stumbled backward but didn't fall.
Havania gave a startled little gasp when she collided with the man. She hadn't even realized he'd been there in truth. It was almost like he'd blended in with the background. Then again, being as tired as she was, she wasn't exactly perceptive. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"No, I'm sorry, I wasn't looking." Havania admitted before giving a little dip of her head in apology and turning to trot off, going along her way.
She and her brothers had a very unique circumstance, and by unique it was absolutely fucked for lack of better word. Following the passing of their parents, they were put into their "uncle's" care since Havania wasn't yet eighteen and they needed a "proper guardian". That situation went south relatively fast and Havania made the decision to pack up her brothers and go. With nowhere to go, they often squatted in whatever place they could find while Havania worked and the two boys, Kelandia and Nevandre, went to school. Sometimes they had enough spare money to get a hotel, but that kind of scratch had been hard to come by recently.
The trio was currently holed up in an old apartment complex, one that had been condemned due to a fire that burnt down most of the upper structure. They stayed in the "lobby" of the building, sleeping on some bedrolls Havania bought earlier on in their struggle. When Havania came climbing through a window in the bottom floor, that was exactly where she found Nevandre bundled up with Kelandia sitting by him on his own bedroll.
"His fever's gone up again." Keli explained to his sister, who instantly gravitated towards them. She shrugged off her backpack and crouched down to touch Nevandre's forehead.
"Mm, I bought medicine, but if it stays spiked like this, we'll have to take him to the hospital." She reasoned quietly, to which Nevandre responded with a weak little headshake.
"N-no, I don't need a doctor." He rasped weakly.
Havania bit at her lip, knowing that her brother was mostly afraid of being taken away from his siblings. She didn't want to argue with him or give reason to his fears, she just nodded instead.
"We'll just have to fuss over you then, hmm?" She crooned to him as she pushed aside his sweat slicked hair.
While the three Castillo siblings had known pain, had known fear, and had known suffering, they had no idea what was in store for them as a figure lurked about the premises, licking it's lips with anticipation at the meal inside the building. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Navrik had started off, pacing again before getting turned around and walking off in a new direction. There was a scent on the wind, the same from before. It was much more distinct now, causing him to stop in his tracks and furrow his brows. It was a werewolf, he'd become familiar with the sent of them through the years. The numbers only increased as the years passed, but something about this felt hair raising.
Of course it would be crazy to sprint towards the smell like a manic. Most werewolves these days lived very normal lives, grocery store clerks and post men, nothing so supernatural about being a supernatural it seemed. But his sixth sense made his gut twist with concern. He decided to meander towards the scent, just for a piece of mind.
Havania took over taking care of Nevandre while Keli started the process of stoking a small fire to cook their beans. Havania had given Nevandre the medicine and even wet one of her blouses she'd worn previously to dab at her brother's forehead.
Meanwhile there was a low growling outside that drew Havania and Kelandia's attention.
"What was that?" Havania asked quietly.
"Shh, shh, Havi...I'm going to go look." Kelandia murmured as he poised to get up from his crouch.
"Keli, no, stay inside. It'll go away." Havania insisted, though, she was quickly proven wrong when the growling intensified and a large grey wolf came crashing through a boarded up window, earning a scream from Havania as she moved to cover Nevandre.
Meanwhile, Kelandia scrambled to grab the pocket knife he'd used to rig open the can of beans.
"H-Havi, get Nevandre and go!" He yelped, pointing the knife at the wolf, who seemed transfixed on Havania or maybe even Nevandre.
The wolf licked at it's lips and crept forward towards Havania and Nevandre. Meanwhile, Havania sputtered in her panic and tried to grab Nevandre and drag him away from the animal, but as the wolf proceeded to leap at her, she dropped down on top of Nevandre, screaming as she waited to be mauled.
However, instead of being attacked, she listened as the wolf gave a yelp, a growl, and then Kelandia began screaming.
She lifted her head and watched as the wolf had it's maw clamped down on Kelandia's shoulder, the knife stuck in it's back.
"H-Havania!" He screamed, trying to pry free.
"Keli!" Havania screamed back as she proceeded to scramble to her feet to try and get to her brother.
The wolf gave several violent jerks to Kelandia, earning pained screams as blood was spurted from the wound in his shoulder. Havania continued to scream her brother's name as his face grew paler and paler and his cries became whimpers. The wolf eventually released the teen and turned back to Havania, who began sobbing when she saw her brother's body go limp on the floor.
"K-Ke-Keli!" She whimpered, hardly even able to see through her tears as the wolf lurched forward and proceeded to attack her.
Everything after was a blur. Havania could remember fighting the animal, she could even remember finding the knife in the animal's back which she used to slash at it. The wolf eventually let her go and went to attack Nevandre, however, after biting at the younger boy it seemed displeased and left him be. When it didn't want anything to do with Nevandre or Havania even, he went back over to Kelandia and dragged him off into the night, leaving both Havania and Nevandre for dead. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Navrik could hear the screaming and picked up speed. He was running and pushing people out of his way, he could smell the scent of the werewolf getting farther away followed by the rich scent of iron.
He wished he had a celluar phone, he was sure if he called The Society they'd beat him there. No doubt they would still be there soon but he couldn't wait. He found a decimated hotel with a trail of blood leading from a window. Without hesitation he crawled through the window, smearing blood on his clothes before landing in more. Gazing in horror, he saw the lumps on the ground; unmoving. One, was the girl from earlier.
He gasped a little, scrambling over to them. Navrik was more an expert on death and well, killing, not so much the other way around. Still he tried, pressing on wrists and throats to search for a pulse but he wasn't sure he was doing it right, even less sure what to do.
Havania gave a small groan as she was handled and tried to push away from Navrik, not so much out of fear or even panic, but because she wanted to go to her brothers.
"M-My brothers...Dre...Dre...Keli..." She choked. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"What? What?" Navrik sputtered nervously, looking around. Was she talking about the boy? Unsure, he still tried to scoot them closer together. He knew if something had happened to him and Natas...Perhaps he'd just want to be near her.
Havania looked over at Nevandre and let out a choked out little cry as she reached over to try and touch at his face.
"D-Dre...Dre...please open your eyes....please..." She sniveled, jumping slightly when Nevandre gave a low groan. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
They were both alive. Navrik was astounded, he moved away from them a little bit.
"Hang on, I'm going to try and get help." He nodded before returning to the window. He didn't want to just wonder around on the street covered in blood. He opted to just take a chance and make commotion. Leaning out of the window he began hollering, "help!"
Navrik kept yelling, but he supposed if no one heard their screaming that no one would hear him either. He scrambled back over to the two, they were talking sort of, so he needed them to help him, help them.
"Phone? Is there a phone anywhere here?" He sputtered.
