Romulus hadn’t been out of jail that long, and while things had returned to normal for the most part, there were things Remedy wanted to address and change. They agreed to mostly start over, a clean slate with no lies. The agreement and Romulus’s word was more than enough for her to return to the original level of love and affection she had for him, and then some. But she wanted to do it right this time, she was all in and she expected that Romulus was too. That being said, she wanted to take the next step for them as a couple and as a team. She had found a place she wanted to show Romulus, she’d picked him up from his brother’s in her T bird she was proudly fixing up and began driving them towards the ‘burbs. Although it wasn’t like, the nice suburbs, it was more hood adjacent but still nice.

It had been raining heavily all morning but it was mostly done now, though the sky threatened inconsistency with little spits of raindrops here and there. It was still overcast though light, the sun trying to shine through the dark clouds; its beams shining through in the breaks of clouds as they rolled. There was a slight nip in the air, and the heat didn’t work on the T Bird (yet), so Remedy was wearing her bomber jacket, the collar turned up to cover her neck.

There were few moments, and even fewer in between, where Romulus felt worthy of the good in his life. After having grown up with his circumstances with his parents, he was often left with a feeling of general inadequacy. But even though he struggled with these concepts, that didn't make him any less grateful for the moments like these where it didn't matter whether or not he was good or "worthy", he was simply allowed to just be and he was just... happy.

He reached over to lightly tug at the upturned collar of Remedy's jacket, grinning over at her.

"Where are you taking me?" He asked her.

“It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you. We’re almost there.” She smiled at him as they turned onto a street leading into what appeared to be a cul-de-sac underneath an overpass. The houses looked like they’d seen better days, the pavement, the fences and even the trees too. But there were families around, front windows with the curtains open; children piled on top of one another watching sponge-bob. There were teens sitting on the porches painting their toe nails who minded Remedy’s T Bird as she pulled up in front of one of the houses.

It was one of the first in a line when you turned onto the street. It desperately needed repainted among other things. The porch steps visibly rotten and collapsing in on themselves. The chain link fence looked like an afterthought as well as the long paved driveway. Remedy turned off the ignition before slapping Romulus’s arm opening her door.

“C’mon, I’ll race ya.” She said.

"Race me to where? My death? Those stairs look lethal." Romulus joked, though he got out of the car all the same.

He looked around, minding all the kids, some lazing inside and visible through screen doors and open windows, others playing with squirt guns and hoses. There was a teenage couple schmoozing over one another, soggy and perhaps fresh out of a pool as they sat perched on a beach towel rolled out on the curb in front of a house. Though the houses collectively had seen better days, it looked like a family neighborhood.

"Where are we? Are you taking me to meet your real folks? If so. it might be a blessing since your dad still hates me." He said.

“What? No, I look just like my mom. Well, more or less, in the way all white people look the same.” Remedy shrugged as she judged the gate door open with her boot before walking quickly up to the house, stepping over the three rotten porch steps. “Welcome, to casa de Remedy.” She announced proudly, unlocking the front door and pushing it open.

The inside from what could be seen, was not any better than the outside. It appeared to need a great deal of work; wallpaper peeling in variously places, it looked like pieces of the ceiling had fallen and the banister to the stairs was missing a majority of its rods.

Romulus blinked in surprise, or rather, not surprise surprise. Remedy liked fix-up projects, like her car or even like Romulus, so it made sense in that regard. But it was a surprise that she had gotten her own place at all, after all, she lived quite a cushy life with her folks.

"Really? You got a place all for yourself?" He asked as he followed in after. He cringed a bit where he could see the roof sagging. He'd definitely have to come and help fix some of it up. Liking projects or not, Remedy couldn't do this all herself.

“Well, hopefully not.” Remedy said with a slight smile, pulling off a piece of wallpaper absentmindedly.

"What's that supposed to mean? Are you wanting to get a roommate or something? That's what they're called right? When you share a house with someone." Romulus asked, which THAT surprised him. Remedy didn't seem like the "roommate" type.

“Is it still a roommate if it’s my boyfriend?” Remedy asked, “what do you say? You think you’d take on this place with me?”

Romulus was nudging a wandering baseboard with his foot when he looked up with wide, surprised eyes at Remedy.

"Wait, me and you?" He asked, taken off guard, but certainly not mad about the suggestion. "You really want me, for us, to move in here? Together?" There was a hint of a smile edging his words, hopeful and excited.

“Yeah, that was what I was thinking.” Remedy chuckled. “I want to do things right this time with you, this felt like the thing to do. That is if you’re up for it?” She asked.

"Of course I am." Romulus chuckled as he closed the gap between he and Remedy then, wrapping his arms around her waist and hoisting her up off her feet in excitement.

Remedy laughed and allowed herself to be hoisted up, being so tall it wasn’t something that happened often. She smiled and wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

“Are you sure?” She asked.
