Dimitra’s whole face was a bit pinched as she tugged Nina along. Her sisters had jinxed her. Once in the kitchen, she let go of Nina and proceeded to pretend to look around for snacks.
“We mostly have fruit, vegetables. Papa makes it a rule to only have things like that in the house. Junk food is for special occasions.” She said, fuming to herself. She couldn’t we’ll tell her cousin not to hang close to Dewey outright.

He won’t wait forever.
Dimitra fet her lips quiver a bit at the recollection of her sisters’ words. She wasn’t mad at her cousin, Nina didn’t know anything, but she still felt...troubled. What if when Dewey saw her, he saw what he liked? What if he wanted to stop waiting because Nina was there?
“Everything’s fine...I just wasn’t expecting you.” She lied, or rather half lied.

Dimitra opened her mouth, but could only think of jealous sounding things to say. She quickly tamped down the feeling and the words. Nina couldn’t have known anything about her and Dewey and she certainly didn’t know what her and her sisters had talked about. There was no reason for her to be mad or upset towards her cousin.
“It’s just a private thing and it’s a little urgent. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for it to seem like I was being rude or shaking you off.” Dimitra said. “If you’re really okay, I think we’ll go talk. But Mama should be home soon and you really can help yourself to any snacks while you wait.”

“Okay, thank you.” Dimitra went to exit the kitchen but paused at the door to look back at her cousin just once more. “By the way, please don’t get so cozy with him from now on. I didn’t care for it much.” She added, not threatening, but simply very honest. She left the kitchen then and found Deweyon the couch. “Doody, can we go for a walk? Nina is going to wait here for my mama.”
