It was long awaited, but it was finally time for the first night out for Buck, Magda, and Ezra since the birth of their daughter, Eloise.
While life had certainly been riddled with the frequent changes that come with being first time parents, things were settling into a new normal. They had all returned to their jobs recently, though each and every one of them were reluctant to be apart from Eloise. Buck complained daily about missing her tiny squawks and chirps, but had started complaining more about missing her laugh, which was a new development for her. He was often jealous of how much easy access Ezra had to her throughout the day since she sometimes spent time with his family above their apartment above the bodega where he worked, but he more often than not remedied that by blipping in on his lunch break to bother both Eloise and Ezra.
When they were all home together, their time was solely focused on baby Eloise and her needs. There was hardly a time where Buck could even remember being in a separate room from Eloise whenever they were all home. And while they all loved her dearly, they certainly needed a night away from work and away from parenting duties, something they hadn't all had in the last few months.
Buck's mother had agreed to watch Eloise overnight so that he, Ezra, and Magda could go out on a date to properly wine and dine each other and engage in the adult activities having a baby often put a damper on. Buck was presently putting together an overnight bag for Eloise while Ezra minded her so that Magda could get herself gussied up as much as she wanted.
"Do you think three pouches of milk will do it? Should I pull another?" Buck asked as he stood at the fridge, freezer door open as he took stock of Magda's "liquid gold" that took up much of the space.
He was already dressed and ready to go, never one to get too fancy. He wore a simple button down shirt tucked into a pair of new pair of dark slacks that Ezra had helped tailor to accommodate his tail. He'd spent some time in the afternoon rubbing off the velvet and blood from his freshly grown antlers until they looked more shiny and pristine than a fuzzy, gory mess. As usual, his hair was only styled with a little bit of an oil that smelt of forest and flowers that made his curls shine and bounce. The coming of Eloise was a grand and beautiful thing, each of them adjusting and changing into parents. Magda didn’t really transform emotionally, she was a doting but stern person before becoming a mother. But physically her figure changed, her breasts were plump; often engorged with milk, they sagged a little naturally. She hard stretch marks around her navel and and on her sides; tugging away from her breasts and stomach. Her arms were toned though, she was getting surprisingly strong from the constant up and down of her well fed baby. She stood sideways in the floor length mirror, gifted to her from Ezra their first Christmas. Of course she fawned over herself, she hadn’t been out to be seen in a little while. It was in Magda’s nature to primp, she loved doing her makeup and putting together outfits. A first date night out though, after a baby no less, was extra special. She smoothed out the creases on her dress, palms carefully brushing over the powder blue satin. It hugged her new curves with confidence, there was sagging in the dropped neckline that complimented her new breasts. The straps were thin and the length of it dropped four inches above her knees; it was more of a club dress perhaps than a wine tasting dress.
And because Magda is Magda, it wouldn’t be complete without her highest heels.
“Three should be fine.” Magda called, moving a snake away so she could put in her pearls.
Ezra, perhaps changed the most. While he remained mean, moody and sarcastic, he became incredibly domestic and fatherly. Eloise was his sidekick and constant companion, since Ezra could work mostly from home or at the bodega, it made it easy to have her always. They two would take afternoon naps together, Eloise passed out against Ezra’s chest with his hand unconsciously rubbing her back. He learned how to multitask, which he probably could have before but why would he? Now Ezra practically had six hands the way he could effortless juggle tasks. He could pat Eloise on the back with one hand, and shake a closed fist at Buck with the other.
He was also dressed up for date night. His nails were freshly painted and he had some new jewelry in. His hair was slicked back, which was a big job to tame his curls. He adorned a charcoal black button up, the sleeves rolled a quarter of the way and over top, a black suit vest that was decorated with a theatrical baroque embroidery. His slacks were a matching charcoal black to his button up, and brand new pair of black Chelsea boots.
Ezra was just leaving his bedroom, Eloise in his arms of course.
“Do four, it’ll be better that she has extra.” He suggested.
“Four it is.” Buck said, grabbing the bags to put them in a cooler bag he had waiting on the counter. He turned when he heard Eloise’s little chirps and cops from Ezra’s arms. He grinned as he zipped up the bag and went over to meet the twosome. He made grabby hands for their girl. “You sure are chatty tonight, miss thing.” _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“She’s cussin’ us out for leaving.” Ezra said, holding her out to Buck.
“Don’t say that,” Magda scolded quickly, paused in Bucks bedroom door, adjusting her heels. She hooked a finger in the heel, adjusting its position before knocking it on the hardwood floor. “I don’t want to feel guilty going out.” She added.
“Cussing is out? Not this sweet girl.” Buck said as he took Eloise from Ezra and leaned in to kiss her round little face. He was stopped short by a retaliating whine and unsteady flail of her arm. Buck clucked his tongue at her and went to find Magda. “Okay, maybe she’s a little jealous, or mad, but we all deserve a nice night out, especially Mama.” _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“We won’t be gone long, my girl.” Magda cooed, reaching out for Eloise then. While Eloise wasn’t walking yet anyways, her feet never touched the ground the way she would get passed between the three of them. The little babe hardly knew what it felt like to not be cradled in the nook of any parents arm.
Ezra walked over to join them, waggling a polished finger at Eloise. “You’ll have fun with Grandma anyways.”
“And if she’s no fun, you can bite her.” Buck teased with a little pinch of Eloise’s round cheek. She wiggled angrily in Magda’s arms and gave a squawk. Buck laughed and pet at Eloise’s curly hair instead. “I’m sorry, baby.”
Just then there was a bright flash of light that seeped in under the apartment door followed by some toddler babbling and a little knock at the door. Buck’s ears perked.
“Mom must’ve brought Roscoe.” He said as he trotted over to the door. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Come in!” Magda called out in a sing song voice, blowing a raspberry into Eloise’s cheek.
Ezra was already complying Eloise’s overnight things into a designated pile, slipping in and out of bedrooms, looking for Eloise’s blankie, a patchwork baby sized quilt that had a little bunny stitched at the corner, something Amulius whipped up for her.
“Buck, where’s he blanket, did you pack it already?”
"It's probably somewhere in the bed. I never got around to making it this morning." Buck explained before a grin split his face as the door to the apartment opened.
Little Roscoe came racing in about as fast as any toddler could race and made a straight line for his older brother, who by this time was crouched down with arms wide open and waiting to collect the little boy. Roscoe threw himself into Buck's grasp with a loud squealing laugh, little arms wrapped around his neck.
"Bu'!" The tot chirped.
"Ro!" Buck laughed in response.
Despite their age difference, Buck and Roscoe were quite close, at least in the way Buck enjoyed the toddler's company and Roscoe seemed to idolize his big brother even as small as he still was. The twosome didn't look much alike, what with Buck being his father's spitting image and Roscoe looking much more like Bambi. They did both have their mother's soft curls and waves and deer ears and tail, beyond that, they didn't look very similar at all. It also didn't help that Roscoe had piebaldism that left little spots of white on his face and legs that made him look that much more unalike. But still, they got on as brothers do.
Buck stood up with Roscoe in his arms and grinned over at his mother as she came in and closed the door behind her. She smiled and went over to her boys, reaching up to cup at Buck's face to pull him down and kiss his cheeks.
"You look so handsome." She commented as she released him and gave him a once over. She glanced passed him to Magda next and swiftly went over to her to give her the same soft greeting with kisses on her cheeks as well. "And you look lovely too, Magda." She complimented as she reached up to coax a snake behind Magda's ear. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Magda smiled into the affectionate gesture. While Bucks Dads were unsure about Magda, Bambi seemed to embrace her, which Magda appreciated. Bambi was everything Magda aspired to me in a mom and in a woman, so it meant a lot to her that they got along so well.
“Thank you,” Magda chirped before waving at little Roscoe. “Hey Ro, are you excited about the sleepover with Ellie?” She asked.
About then, Ezra came walking out of a bedroom in a hurried fashion with Eloise’s blanket in hand. For how uninterested Ezra was about most things, is was an anal parent. He fussed about messes and things Eloise needs that maybe aren’t a priority but aren’t they?
He held up the blanket to showcase the find before expertly folding it into a snug square. He paused by Bambi to give her a peck on the cheek in greeting. Bambi was as much a constant in Ezra’s life as any of Bucks family. Bambi was like another mother to him.
“Thanks for watching her.” Ezra said before tucking Eloise’s blanket into her overnight bag.
Roscoe looked away from Buck after hearing his name and he grinned at Magda as he let out a pleased little hum. He still wasn't much for actual words, but he tried.
"Of course! I'm happy to watch her any time, but especially for tonight. You kids are so busy working and taking care of my sweet girl, you deserve a nice night out." Bambi said before reaching out to gently tickle under Eloise's chin, earning a gummy smile. "We're going to have such a good time, Ellie."
"I hope you're ready for a long night. She stays up late and is awfully chatty." Buck warned. "I blame Ezra. They always gossip about me together." He added the tease. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“You give us a lot to talk about.” Ezra said simply and almost too sincerely, before redirecting to Bambi.
“You should have plenty of milk, if she wakes up right away after you put her down, rub her back for a bit and she may not need a bottle to go back down.” Ezra advised carefully.
“She also likes if you rub her ears.” Buck added quickly, releasing Roscoe when he started squirming.
“You used to like that too.” Bambi smiled and nodded as she offered her hands out to take baby Eloise. “She’ll be well taken care of, so you kids don’t need to worry. Just enjoy yourselves tonight and I’ll have Osgar bring her home when he comes into the city tomorrow.” _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
