As exciting as the life of a werewolf can potentially be, for the young adolescent werewolf things were pretty average. All the same hardships of getting summer jobs, getting a date to homecoming, good grades and not sitting alone at lunch. The Laughlin kids were no exception. In school Jeraud Junior (Or JJ) was a phenomenal student, he excelled academically. He was handsome and well liked, he managed a successful social life while managing good marks and extracurricular. Remedy wouldn’t be a good student if not for her Father’s drilling, not that her parents were considerably strict, but good or at least average grades were encouraged. But Remedy wasn’t stupid either, when traditional academics were too big a feat, she made up for it with vocational studies. In her auto and shop classes she was their top student, a girl incredibly gifted with wood, metal and various machinery. While she didn’t have many friends outside of the shop, she was well liked on her sports teams, being that she was incredibly athletic. Damien was sort of average, he had passing grades but not many academic strengths. He was strong though, he did well in weight training and bodybuilding and had an affinity for dance and musical theater. That being said, he was probably the most popular, socially speaking.
Then there was little Arte, last to graduate (as her siblings were already in college or pursuing careers). No extracurricular, average grades, little to no friends; quiet and delicate, she stared out her window at her friend.
“Come on, Arte!” A voice beckoned from below.
Standing curbside was a young Lucinda Castillo. Also incredibly average with not many friends, although Lucinda was spunky and had interests. And her lack of social life was what she wanted, she was picky about her friendships. And yet, she saw something in her meek little blond friend.
“I don’t know, I don’t feel right about it.” Arte called down.
Tonight there was supposed to be a fairly large ‘young people's’ engagement in the supernatural community. Arte was welcome to go, she was a legal adult now and out of school. But, she didn’t ask her parents still and there was a sort of curfew for their household. Jer and Roxanne were already out at their own soiree, so Arte was feeling very guilty about leaving.
“I’m not going alone, so come down please.” Lucinda called.
Arte was chewing her lip anxiously when she heard someone behind her.
“Why don’t you just go, you can even go out the front door?”
It was Remedy, her big sister leaning against her door frame, biting into an apple. She was tall and toned, sharp and angular features with large eyes and wispy blonde hair.
“Oh I...I don’t know, I feel strange about it.” She admitted, hugging herself and pulling away from the window.
Remedy knew her sister well enough, she’s always been...A recluse.
“Okay, well, what if I went with you?” Remedy offered.
Arte paused, still looking unsure.
“Yes! Jesus Christ, let’s go!” Lucinda hollered from downstairs now.
Best friends don’t wait outside, they let themselves in.
Arte couldn’t help but giggle, suddenly eager now knowing her big sister would be with her to oversee her festivities. Remedy and Arte filed outside, lining up with Lucinda as they hurried along to get to their party.
Romulus Navares didn't have what you would call a "standard" upbringing. Being the eldest son of the Society's most infamous defector as well as an ageless and equally infamous magic wielder it was definitely different being a youth, especially when compared to Jeraud, the Society's famous "turn-around" story, and Roxanne, Jeraud's outstandingly beautiful wife, Laughlin's children.
For as long as Romulus could remember, he had been raised with his parents' malicious intent forced to be his own. He had been taught to fight and eventually to kill. He was raised on his father's propaganda and bent into shape by his mother's terrifyingly powerful might. He had been brought up to be a frightening brutish force, alongside his twin and their younger sister, but he'd also been brought up to be easily forced into his parents' wills.
Which was why he was at a party in the city, informed through multiple sources and divined by his mother that the Laughlin daughter he'd been asked to observe would be there. He didn't quite understand what his father wanted him to do when he said to approach Artemis Laughlin for the sake of infiltration and eventual destruction, but he was also not one to ever question his father's will. He simply made it so.
Though he preferred to work with his twin on many of their jobs, tonight Remus had been dragged away to do something else, presumably provide protection for their father on one of his jobs, or, more likely, to provide protection for their youngest sibling and prodigal son, Amulius. But, regardless of whether or not his twin was with him, Romulus had to press on and was doing so by idly making his way around the crowded room where the party was being held, eyeing into the mass of people and waiting for Artemis Laughlin to arrive so he could make his first move. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
It took a bit of traveling, hitting the subway and doing some walking. But they had finally arrived into New York's historical district where the party was being helping. As they walked up to the building it would appear the party was in full swing, lights and music pouring out between the space of boarded up windows. Remedy smiled and chuckled at the two younger girls who eagerly skipped inside. Remedy was by no means a party girl though she had her own brand of trouble making in her youth, but she felt nostalgic watching her kid sister attend her first party.
She followed behind, giving the girls some space to mingle on their own. Arte being a lot like their mother in most ways, was often quiet and reserved. But, their Mother was also a popular can can dancer in her hay day; a most beloved performer. So like their mother, Arte took to the center of the dance floor, jiving rhythmically with an air of innocence with her friend. Remedy still kept a watchful eye on them, moving toward the bar area for a drink.
Romulus had founded the dance floor a few times and when he didn't immediately spot his target, he made his way over to the bar to grab a drink. He grabbed a beer and leaned back against the counter, giving an irritated sigh as he looked back into the crowd. He barely had time to take two proper swigs when he spotted a mop of blond hair he recognized from the photos his father had shown him.
Artemis Laughlin.
His eyebrows shot up and he gave a pleased smile as he set down his beer and looked down to smooth out his outfit, readying himself for approach. Once he was ready, he began towards the center of the dance floor, intent bright in his eyes. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Remedy was enjoying her jack and coke when she looked up to check on her sibling, just in time to catch a male who appeared to be approaching her. She made a bit of a face, furrowing her brows. Arte had expressed back and forth interest in men and romance, often contemplating that having a boyfriend might be nice. But coming around and deciding interacting was too intimidating and that in that regard, romance wasn't worth it. So, Remedy was deciding on whether or not she should let the male bother her, he was handsome enough but he didn't look like someone Arte would be interested in or vice versa for that matter. What would a guy with a neck scar want with someone as delicate as Arte?
But, ultimately Remedy put her drink down and decided to observe intently. It would be apparent what to do next based on Arte's reaction. If she flushed or smiled, versus if she pulled away and searched for Remedy's gaze.
Romulus cut through the crowd, a few people having recognized him even and moving quickly out of his way, and made his way up to Artemis. He wasn't really sure how to approach a woman outside of...well, previous context, but he'd conferred with some of his parents' followers and got enough of an idea of what to do.
He cleared his throat and tapped at Artmis's shoulder while forcing a little jive of his own (god, he was an awful dancer). _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Arte and Lucinda were dancing happily, Arte was smiling and laughing until someone tapped her shoulder. She turned slightly at first then all the way to face the man who tapped her. Her brows were furrowed timidly as she already appeared afraid, why did he tap her and what was he doing (She didn't recognize he was dancing)? She backed up a little into Lucinda who being the more outspoken one, tucked Arte behind her and stood between them.
"She's not interested." Lucinda said to the man.
Remedy shifted in her seat, still gauging the situation.
"I'm sorry? I'm just dancing and thought I'd ask to join you ladies." Romulus said, still "dancing". _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
At that point Remedy slipped off her bar stool and pushed through the crowd. She had a bit of a reputation herself although nothing compared to Romulus, people noticed her and moved to let her through. She made it to the girls, getting between them and the man.
"Hey, it's not happening." Remedy declared to the man.
"Your sister?" Romulus said, making a slight face. Had there been two sisters? Romulus couldn't remember. Anyhow, this sister seemed more talkative while the other was...well not. But she seemed more intimidating in the way Romulus could tell: she would not be easily swayed. "So are you going to tag in for her and have a casual conversation with me?" _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"If you should settle for me, I will." She decided. Remedy wasn't afraid of many things, men with facial hair who can't dance included. While Artemis was scared, he didn't seem so bad to Remedy.
