Lua hated going to the city, they only times (to date) she had gone was when her family piled into the truck for Nevandre’s work. Which this trip wasn’t much exception. Nevandre needed an errand done in the city and there was no putting it off or delegating it to anybody else. So with labored sighs she drove her mothers beat up truck into the city. The traffic and confined space made her nauseous and anxious, meaning frequent stops, which wasn’t possible once in city limits. She could barely find parking so there was no place to stop. The errand was completed with haste, but she couldn’t bring herself to dive back in the truck immediately. In fact she was agonizing about it quite a bit, staring down the rusted blue vehicle from her place on the concrete. Passerby’s shoved her slightly, but she didn’t waver or recoil much.

“I hate this....” She uttered under her breath.

JJ had known from a very young age that he wanted to work for the Society as part of the effort to help supernaturals in need, though he did deny adamantly that the idea was first brought about as him wanting to be just like his papa. He started out as an intern of sorts in high school and worked his way to field officer in college and, eventually, a lead investigator and officer therein after. It was hard work that required him to often be calculating and a bit “stony”, but in recent days even his colleagues said he was a bit... softer.

This softness was perhaps brought about by his meeting and actively pursuing a one Lua Castillo. She’d come to the city with her family some time ago and, after having to go to the Society to re-up on paperwork, he happened to meet her and they hit it off. They texted from time to time and were often friendly, though they weren’t apparently friendly enough for Lua to tell JJ that she’d be in the city today.

JJ had just wrapped up his day at the Society and was heading down the street to catch the subway home when he saw a familiar figure grousing miserably on the sidewalk.

“Lua?” He called out, feeling himself perk up a little after having had a long day.

Lua’s eared perked and she did a slight quarter head toward the voice, it was her good friend JJ. She smiled after recognizing him, in fact she smiled immediately but perhaps to someone else it was happening in slow motion.

“JJ, hey!” She greeted him with a weak wave.

“Hey, what’re you doing in the city? You hate this place?” JJ chuckled as he approached her, effectively blocking her from some of the jostling.

“You remembered,” She teased before sighing. “I do, but Dad needed help with something so here I am.”

“Couldn’t he have, I don’t know, gotten someone else to do it? Courier? Postmates? Whatever else there is?” JJ chuckled, though he was glad
Lua was brought to the city on this errand. “When do you head back?”

“Whenever, I’m done. I just needed to get his manuscript here tout suite.” Lua explained. “I’m just dreading the long drive back.” She added.

“I see.” JJ made a thoughtful sound. “Well, What if we got you out and about a bit then? Give you a chance to stretch your legs and maybe pick up something to eat you can’t have back at home. Something you can snack on.” JJ suggested.

“Great.” JJ lit up at Lua’s eagerness. He thought, perhaps, that maybe she was just as keen on him as he was to her. He offered out an arm to her. “What kind of food do you like? There’s all kinds around the city.”

Lua took his arm but didn’t think much about it.

“Uh what kind of food do YOU like? She asked. Lua liked the farm to table meals she had at home, produce from the garden and meat from the forrest. She didn’t expect to find food like that in the city and she didn’t want to try it. So she was open to suggestions.

“Uh...” JJ didn’t want to admit that he cared mostly for his mothers home cooking, to the point he often asked for her to pack him a lunch for the office when he knew he didn’t have a lot of field work planned. He reached up with his free hand to rub at the back of his neck a bit. “I like savory foods. Yes. Savory foods and bread. Sandwiches?” He tried.

“Take me to where the best sandwiches are in the city then.” Lua said.

“That’s a tall order, but I think I can fill it.” JJ nodded. “There’s a bodega in the neighborhood that makes pretty good sandwiches, or, well, tortas or whatever.”
