It had been a little over a year since Han and Ava started dating. Easily, Ava’s longest relationship. While it was still taboo for anyone’s respective partners to stay overnight, it was normal that Han and Ava would sit on the porch talking late into the night. Although usually after saying ‘goodbye’ he’d make his way toward the side of the house and slide in through Ava’s bedroom window. Which was typical of everyone’s significant other, for those of them that had one (sorry Venturo). All those nights in her room, and the weekends spent at his apartment in the city would finally catch up to them.

Ava was on birth control, always had been. But they say only abstinence is the only thing that is full proof.

So when she first noticed she was late, she didn’t overthink it but didn’t discount the possibility of being pregnant. But she gave it more time, a week late turned into two, two into three and three into four. She didn’t have any other symptoms but that doesn’t mean anything either. Still, she found herself in the bathroom of a Speedway gas station, staring down at a positive pregnancy test.

She couldn’t say that she was sad, or scared, though not necessarily happy?

Ava woke up every single day and looked in the mirror, reminding herself that she was THAT bitch. Not much could shake her beyond feeling rage and she wasn’t angry either. She tossed the pregnancy test and dialed Han, tucking the phone between her ear while she washed her hands at the sink.

Han had rarely been in any serious relationships outside of those that existed purely physically, so needless to say, his relationship with Ava was not only his longest, but it was also his most fulfilling to date.

He enjoyed all aspects of their relationship, from their late night talks and schmoozing on her porch, to getting tangled up in either of their bed sheets together on the lazy mornings they could get away with it. Needless to say, he was very happy and very in love.

He was currently at work, gloved hands packing cabbage leaves with a pepper paste mixture for the restaurant's kimchi, when he heard his phone ringing in his back pocket. He took a pause in his work and discarded one of the gloves so he could reach for his phone. He blinked when he saw it was Ava. She knew his schedule, so she certainly knew he was at work. That being said, she hardly called him when he was on the clock, so he knew whatever she was calling for was urgent.

"Hey, sweet cheeks, what's up?" He answered, stepping away from his prep station to pop out the backdoor for a little privacy.

“Hey, sorry, I know you’re working.” Ava began, yanking a few crappy brown paper towels from its dispenser to dry her hands. “You know that crib that was in the alley behind your building? Was it still there this morning when you left for work?” She asked sort of nonchalantly.

"Trash day isn't for a few days, so I imagine so...why?" Han asked, making a face at the question as he leaned up against the back alley wall behind the restaurant.

“We’re gonna need it, or maybe two. One for your place and one for mine. But I guess we could co sleep too?” She suggested out loud as she exited the bathroom.

Han continued to furrow his brows, not totally understanding what Ava was getting at until it hit him all at once. His stomach dropped in the way that he suddenly felt very upended and though he couldn't see himself, he was sure the color had left his face.

"Wait...what? Ava, are you saying what I think you're saying?" He asked.

“If you think I’m saying that I’m pregnant, than yeah, that’s what’s happening.” Ava confirmed.

While they weren’t trying, she didn’t expect this would come as bad news to him. Although it wasn’t good news necessarily, Ava just assumed they would handle it together.

Han took a breath, trying to regain his equilibrium after receiving that jarring news.

He loved Ava and had honestly imagined that they would settle down together for quite some time now, but he hardly anticipated that they'd be doing that so soon, especially by the way of having a baby.

But while he was shocked, he wasn't mad, and Ava didn't sound mad either.

"Where are you at?" He asked her, already turning to go back into the restaurant.

Il Soon was on his break, perched on a bucket in a little alcove where the cleaning supplies were kept. As Han walked by, he gestured for the other boy to get up and to go over to the kimchi area, to which Il Soon raised a confused brow at for a moment, but got up to comply.

“I’m at the speedway on 25th.” Ava answered, smiling a little as she assumed he was going to come meet her. Again, she didn’t expect he would be mad. But it was still a relief that he didn’t seem to be.

"Can you sit tight there for a hot second?" Han asked her, smiling a little to himself when he could practically hear Ava's smile on the other end.

“I can, I have some light shopping to do anyways.” Ava answered, biting back a smile. “Love you, see you in a bit.”

After telling Il Soon and the Samchon that he needed to step out, Han rushed to make his way across the neighborhood to where Ava had said she would be. He'd rushed through the busy sidewalk crowds and when those got too dense to traverse, he even dipped through stalled traffic, bobbing and weaving between cars and buses. Eventually he was coming up on the store and though he'd been running the whole way there, he sped up even more.

Ava had just stepped out of the gas station, a little plastic bag hanging off her wrist; no doubt full of various snacks, definitely hot Cheetos and Takis. She could see Han running toward her, she smiled uncharacteristically big, laughing at the sight. She hadn’t expected he’d run all the way there.

When Han saw Ava smiling, his own smile resumed on his lips and as soon as he reached her, he swept her up into his arms, giving her a little spin. He settled her back on her feet and held her still.

"Really really? You're pregnant?" He asked, still wrapped around her.
