“I forgive you for not paying attention to what’s going on with me.” She said quickly then, brushing off her brother before turning back to Il Soon. “Thanks for walking me home, we’ll talk soon?”

“Of course. Don’t forget, you still have to show me your piano skills.” Il Soon cheesed before going to turn around to exit the camp.

Ariel wasn’t nearly as confrontational or radical, or adventurous, or really [i]as[\i] anything compared to his baby sister. Even in the faerie realm, Priya preformed at court for the Queen and her peers without fear. Ariel always stayed home with his books, comforted by the solitude and the places he could go with the turn of a page. However, when their home was burned down, Ariel lost everything; books included. When he arrived at camp he had nothing but the shirt on his back. After several weeks of quietly quivering in the corner of his tent, he ventured out more and more like his sister.

It was at a slower pace of course, he mostly meandered around the camp, socializing with familiar faces though he wasn’t much of a talker before. But he began craving the feel of parchment on his fingertips and that [i]old book smell [\i]. Priya had mentioned a used book store she had seen a few blocks from camp, Ariel though it could be a quick enough trip without any trouble. But it was quite the contrary, as a faerie’s wings is of relative size to the faerie. Priya was slight and short, her wings easy enough to conceal. Whereas Ariel was the tallest faerie at their court, his giant iridescent blue wings dragged uncomfortably on the ground; buried under his trench coat and from under the binder. They twitched and flexed involuntarily under all the weight, the nerves reacting to the strain. This attracted a lot of attention, it started slowly and then all at once; humans heckling and berating him as he walked down the street.

“Where you going, you fairy fuck?” A man asked, Ariel could only assume rhetorically, standing up from an apartment stoop to follow him.

He was tall, not quiet Ariel’s height, sporting a red baseball cap and a north face vest. His face was razor burned from a close shave, and Ariel could see what looked like an eagle tattoo peeking out from the collar of his shirt.

“I don’t want to fight.” Ariel said quietly, trying to walk faster.

This only seemed to draw in the man more who was hot on his heels.

“No? But you want our jobs huh? Maybe some money from our government? You want free housing? Free schooling too, huh? Before even us god fearing Americans get a taste of those things?” He rambled.

Ariel didn’t even know what he was talking about, had he seen the faerie camp? There weren’t even bathrooms...

“Please leave me alone.” He repeated, wishing he could fly away.

It had been a minute since Il Soon and Priya last saw each other. He had the fullest intention of keeping his word when it came to calling her about any help needed with the Faction, however, things had been rather quiet with how the Society was cracking down on rallies and other unlawful activities. The boys, save for Han who was much more involved with the higher ranking “officials”, had more or less been given an impromptu “break” from activities, though that wasn’t to say that they didn’t manage to find trouble, just like Il Soon was about to.

He’d covered a shift for his brother at the restaurant they worked at and was on his way home after having gotten off and picked up some stuff for dinner. Han was supposedly going to be out late, either doing Faction stuff or doing Ava Il Soon was unsure, so Olezka agreed to cook everyone dinner so long as long as someone grabbed groceries, some movies, and of course promised to get dessert at a nearby dessert diner. Il Soon had done his part and was hopeful everyone else was doing there’s when he heard yelling somewhere ahead.

With a furrowed brow, Il Soon hurried forward and craned his head around a building corner to find a man folloiwing an obscenely tall man who looked vaguely-

Ariel.

It took Il Soon a moment, but he eventually recognized the white mop of hair and the man’s dark skin. He didn’t, however, recognize the man trailing him, seemingly antagonizing him.

Il Soon promptly hurried towards the two men.

“Hey! Is there a problem?” He called out as he approached.

Ariel turned his head quickly at the yelling, hoping it wasn’t another human with ill intent. But it was his sister new boyfriend. He’s so short, but he could still be of help?

The antagonist turned around too at that moment, but he didn’t appear threatened.

“You stay out of this, better yet, why don’t you go back to your country! Neither of you are wanted here!” He spouted.

Il Soon scowled and promptly put himself between Ariel and the man, going to stand toe to toe with the man, though he hardly stacked up in the height department.

“Why don’t you just lay off?” He said.

“Why should I?” The man exclaimed.

“I don’t want to fight, please go away.” Ariel repeated, his version of doing something.

The man jammed a finger in Il Soon’s face, unwavering in his ignorance.

“I don’t take orders from commies!” He declared.

“I don’t like having to deal with shit-talking pigs, yet here we are.” Il Soon swatted the hand away, snarling then.

“I'm a pig?” The man drawled, spit flying as he reached up to shove Il Soon into Ariel who promptly stumbled backwards.

Il Soon caught himself and turned to try and help Ariel from falling flat on his ass before turning his attention back to the man, shoving both hands into the man’s chest, chest puffing and eyes suddenly glowing as smoke fumes from his mouth.

“What’s your problem!” He growl-yelled.

That, seemed to grab them mans attention. He watched Il Soon’s eyes glow and smoke seep out of his mouth. Now he was stumbling back.

“What the fuck are you?” He exclaimed.

“Someone telling you to move along.” Il Soon said, plumes of smoke rolling over his lips as he took an intimidating step forward.

The man continued to reel back before turning around and jogging away. Ariel was impressed and surprised.

“Thank you.” He hair simply.

Il Soon waited until the man had made his retreat before giving a few unforgiving coughs to clear his airways of his own smoke. He turned to Ariel then, trying to suppress the hacking. He waved a dismissive hand.

“It’s nothing.” He said.

Ariel sort of reached apprehensively to pat him on the back but quickly retracted.

“Ah are you okay?” He asked.
