Manon didn’t pick up on anything, she was just being polite by inviting her parents. Considering Yoo In didn’t really have parents for Manon to meet, Manon regarding the Ahjumma and the Samchon as sort of parents. She thought it would be like her parents meeting his.

“Well that’s up to him I think.” Manon chuckled. “But it’s an open invitation, I know you guys are busy.” Manon said to her parents.

"Tomorrow isn't so good for me, but maybe your mom would like to go." JJ said.

Hopeful thinking would have Yoo In believe that this was JJ sparing them the awkward interaction for now, but the rational part of him was sure that it was more of a general disinterest than anything else.

“Yeah, sure. I’ll go.” Lucinda smiled, nodding politely. “It’s been a grip since I’ve had good Korean food. I could always go for a good sundubu-jjigae if you guys make it there?” Lucinda asked.

Yoo In perked up a bit.

"We do. I'm surprised, I don't know a lot of people who know about Korean food besides barbecue." He grinned. "The samchon makes a pretty good sundubu jjigae, but I think it's even better if you ask for pork belly in it and add extra kimchi."

“I’ll try it! I love kimchi but the store bought jars just aren’t as good.” Lucinda said.

Lucinda was a proud weebu, fully engrossed in all things Japanese. But like most weebs, she dabbled in Korean delights such as K-pop, K-drama, and they’re delicious spicy food. “I’ll have to have Manon order for me, my Korean is way sloppy. But turns out she’s got quite an ear for it, now I know why she’s been learning.” Lucinda added.

"She's practically a natural. We practice a lot whenever she comes to the restaurant. The ahjumma is particularly impressed with how good she's gotten so fast." Yoo In bragged. "She's trying to teach me some French too, but I'm not very good at it. She's told me that you guys go a lot, since Mister Laughlin's family is from there."

JJ made a sound of acknowledgement, but didn't say anything.

“I don’t have an ear for French either.” Lucinda laughed. “But I don’t need to tell you how smart Manon is, she picked up French quickly and easily. Her and her Dad would always have conversations without me.”

“I remember one Mother’s Day, Pére and I were arguing in French about what to get Mom. We couldn’t agree on something that she already had...What was it, do you remember Dad?” Manon asked, trying to include JJ in the conversation.

JJ was loathe to enter a conversation involving Yoo In, but once again, he could never say no to his daughter.

"It was a special edition bundle of X Japan's Dahlia album and a dvd of their tour. It came out years ago, but I was sure Lucinda didn't have it yet." JJ explained.

“And I was positive she had it, I could’ve sworn it I saw it in the cabinet under their tv stand.” Manon went on to explain.

“But you were both only half right, because I had the album, but not the dvd of the tour.” Lucinda added. “But it was nuts, they were just standing in the middle of the room shouting at each other in French, right in front of me, knowing I would have zero context. I don’t know why it was so heated, or maybe it just sounded like it because it was in a different language.” Lucinda shrugged and laughed.

"We both just wanted to get you a good gift. It's hard to figure gifts out now that Manon is older and we can't just make you the same plaster hand prints or butt print bowls." JJ joked, even going as far as giving a small smile.

Yoo In grinned and quirked a brow as he looked over at Manon.

"Butt print bowls?" He asked.

“Yeah, sadly the butt print bowls don’t stay cute with age.” Lucinda laughed.

"They were cute while they lasted though. The one we made for her first Halloween is probably the cutest though. She was still so small. I could practically fit her whole bottom in one hand." JJ continued on, grinning as it egged Manon on.

“You guys are being so mean!” Manon protested, but she was smiling and laughing as she did so.

“Her little butt was like two eggs, I ate all the time, i don’t know why she was so small.” Lucinda laughed too.

"I had to make so many trips to the donut shop, even more trips to get those God awful spaghetti-o's at two or three in the morning. I swear, if my mother knew what you were feeding her would-be grandbaby, she would have had an aneurysm." JJ joked. "But then she was born, so small and so perfect. Ma petit fleur."

“I don’t even like spaghetti-o’s.” Manon laughed a little.

“Which is why I can never be truly sure you’re my kid.” Lucinda teased. “We’ll have to get the baby book out after dinner-Jay, you can bring out one of my butt bowls.” Lucinda suggested.
