"Ah, yes, my little agents of chaos." Romano said, almost proud, in reference to the rambunctious youth on their block. "Well, they might be loud, but those kids are harmless, so she's not wrong." He said before dipping the ladle back into the sangria, only to pull it back out and to take a sip of it before either of his parents came back him and shooed him off. He offered the half-sip remaining out to Jai.

Jai had never drank before, not that a sip of sangria was a big deal. But it still kind of felt that way since it was his first. While he wasn’t totally sure about it, something about Romano doing it and offering it to him was encouragement enough. He accepted the cup and took a quick swig, like it was cold medicine. But it wasn’t that bad, fruity with a bit of acid. It made Jai’s lips pink and tingle, he pressed his fingers to his lips to be sure what he was feeling was accurate before giggling quietly and smiling up at Romano.

“It’s good.” He declared with some enthusiasm.

Romano wasn't aware why or that it was even happening, but his own cheeks pinked a little as his heart giddily jumped in his chest at how unbelievably soft and, well, cute. He still grinned, because he always grinned.

"Thanks, Dad let's me help make it, but it'll be our secret that we actually partook." He said.

"Me and my siblings have sneaked a few beers here and there, nothing too fancy." Romano smiled, as if he were letting Jai in on his most precious secret, and leaned in. "At Christmas and New Years, our grandmama and grandpapa throw big soirees and it's pretty easy to sneak away with some champagne." He laughed a little. "Sangria is pretty easy. We just add a buttload of fruit, some wine, brandy, seltzer. We don't measure, usually Dad just tastes it and lets us know when it's right."

“When it’s just enough to give a little kick, but doesn’t knock you on your ass.” Romano chuckled. “Let’s get that back to your mom and, hold on-“ Romano reaches out with the side of his hand and gently wiped away the slight blush red residue from the drink just over Jai’s upper lip. “There.”

Jai felt a shiver go down his spine, but it was good and exciting. He flushed at the contact but couldn’t help but let out a bashful chuckle, impulsively touching his lip again before shaking off the giddy excitement. He uttered a ‘thank you’ before grabbing some napkins that had been forgotten inside to take out to the table.

“‘Course.” Romano said, feeling his own giddy little shiver trill through himself upon seeing Jai’s reaction. Before they could both bashfully flounder, Romulus called out.

“Steaks up!” He hollered.

“Hungry?” Jai asked, trying to shift gears, though he was already leading the way back outside.

The barbecue went great. Verona seemed to enjoy herself and mingled fine with the other parents before saying her goodbyes and heading back to the house. Things continued to die down, things got cleaned up and packed up. Jai was sure to help out, carrying in dishes and breaking down tables. Romano was finishing up inside, helping clean up while Jai waited outside for him. It nighttime now, their street didn’t have street lights, so the only light offered was from the moon and porch lights. It was a little bit chilly but that didn’t stop Jai from perching on the front steps of the home. He felt good, smiling to himself and breathing in the cool air slowly through his nose. Sitting back on his palms and looking up at the moon.

“Pretty...” Jai smiled, quietly admiring the sky.

Romano had just finished helping do his share inside and while everyone else was settling down for a movie in the living room, Romano went into the fridge searching for a few off brand ice pops to take out to Jai for the both of them to share. Jai was just where Romano imagined he'd be, seated on the steps and waiting for him. He smiled a little to himself, his cheeks a bit warm as he admired Jai gazing up at the moon in reverence. He cleared his throat a bit before approaching, bending his long legs to sit beside Jai on the worn out stoop. He offered the ice pops out to Jai.

"Pick a color." He said, still smiling softly.

Jai hadn’t heard Romano come out until he was sitting down beside him. He let out a surprised little ‘oh!’ Not expecting Romano to come out with treats, but he smiled and reached for the pink one.

“Thanks.” He uttered before fumbling a bit with the plastic in attempts to open it. “I had a really good time today.” He announced.
