“Well, I mean, not in a way that it bothers me or anything. You’re still Jai, I still love you.” Romano shrugged before taking a confused little pause. “Should...I care?” He hesitantly asked. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“I mean, I don’t think you lied. You consider yourself a boy, then you’re a boy. You’re my boyfriend. It’s as simple as that.” He explained. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
With Romano’s face still in his hand, Jai pulled him forward again for a deep kiss. The kiss was hard but passionate and well intended, there was a little welling of tears in his eyes even.
“I love you, so much.” Jai said after pulling away.
“I love you, too.” Romano let out a little chuckle as he was released from the kiss. He leaned forward to press his forehead to Jai’s, noses squishing together. “I can follow your lead, if you still want to continue what we started.” He grinned. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
After Romano and Jai's "affections" were shared in bed, Romano was sprawled on the bed beside Jai, hot cheeked and shining with a thin layer of sweat. He'd of course done some things with other people before Jai, but nothing that set off the fireworks quite like their little romp. He'd never done something with anyone who he was as fond of as Jai.
He had his hand resting over Jai's side, rubbing small circles with his thumb as he caught his breath, still sprawled out from where he'd fallen flat on his own belly after it was all said and done. He looked over at Jai, his curls a mess and some sticking to his forehead. He couldn't help but grin broadly at the other boy.
"That was really good." He gushed. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Jai had only ever done things with Joy before, needless to say intimacy with Joy was significantly different than what Jai just experiences with Romano. Gentle and intense all at once, like any other touch they had shared, this was no different in the sense it was all fireworks. Jai was on his back still but rolled onto his side to face Romano, reaching lazily to fix his hair.
“I’m still on the fence about it.” Jai teased with a laugh, though he was joking of course.
"Nooo, don't say that." Romano laughed before adjusting to face Jai better himself. He slung his arm about the other boy's waist and nestled to be closer together. "If you say that, I'll be discouraged forever." He joked. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"I love you, too." Romano's grin softened into a little smile as he closed his eyes and reached up to pet Jai's cheek absentmindedly, completely content and ready to fall asleep all tangled up with the other boy. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Romano loved Jai, that was for certain. It was also for certain, that Jai loved Romano. The twosome had been together for nearly two years now, having met at the start of their junior year of high school (or at least the home school equivalent), and it was fairly obvious to them as well as everyone else outside their relationship that they were both equally in for the long haul. They were more or less inseparable, one rarely seen without the other, from late night to early morning.
It wasn’t unusual for Romano to wake early, conditioned to listen for the sound of Verona’s car starting up in the morning so he could make his way over to the house next door. He often trudged over with sleep still in his eyes, walking a path that was so frequented that the terminally overgrown grass had stopped growing as tall where he walked along,
Today was no different as he woke to the sound of the engine turning over with just the slightest bit of early morning sunlight beginning to peek through the curtains of his and his brother’s room. He rose from his mattress, his blond curls still wild and eyes squinted shut, and blindly groped around the floor for a sweater he’d abandoned the night before. He grabbed what he assumed was the top he was searching for (though it could have just as easily been one of his twin’s treasured Goodwill finds) and pulled it on before making a sleepily, stumbly beeline out of the room and down the hall towards the backdoor.
Though it was still technically summer, the bite in the morning air reminded Romano that they were on the cusp of fall. The dew that had accumulated on the grass clung to Romano’s bare feet and his sweats as he cut through the yard on his usual route. There was a small, waist-height fence that separated the Navares family’s yard from Jai and Verona’s yard, but it was hardly an obstacle with Romano’s long legs and he easily breezed over it without missing a step. Despite living in the city, the neighborhood where they lived was hardly crime laden and, as such, most days doors went unlocked which was how Romano promptly tumbled in through the backdoor of Jai and Verona’s home. He scuffled his feet a bit on the rug by the door, drying them off from the dew, and proceeded inwards towards Jai’s room.
Much like the flattened grass route, this pathway to his boyfriend’s room was also familiar enough that Romano could make the trip blind. He walked passed the kitchen and living room and made his way down the hallway leading to the bedrooms. He felt at the wall and brushed his fingers over a familiar crack in a doorframe before finding the door and easing it open. He was immediately met with the hushed whirring of a white noise machine and the warm glow of string lights and a salt lamp which made the vision behind his closed eyelids soft and pink. He kept going until his knees bumped against Jai’s bedframe and he promptly wormed himself in.
He groped around on the bed directly in front of him until his hands found the gentle slope of Jai’s waist and he then wiggled forward, pressing himself flush into the smaller boy. He sighed contentedly when he felt Jai’s body was still warm from sleep.
“S’warm.” He muttered with a smile. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
A lot of Jai’s life had been about surviving from moment to moment. Whether it was with his biological parents, or when he was being actively terrorized by Joy. But since befriending Romano, Jai’s life relaxed quite a lot. It was like pure peace enveloped Jai, like a warm blanket. He had little aspirations, which he didn’t mind at all. All he wanted, was to spend as many days as possible, wrapped up in Romano.
Verona liked Romano enough, but still had rules. Romano wasn’t formally allowed to spend the night, but Romano still spent most mornings and nights in Jai’s bed. Jai’s room was meant to be a palace of relaxation, hence the abundance of ambient lighting and sounds, floor cushions and plush rugs. The rosy colored curtains would sway gently in reply to the low and busy whirring of the oscillating floor fan, and the morning sun would cleave the curtains, spilling in beams of light. Jai was sleeping peacefully, he did not wake or stir at first when Romano padded in. Though a brief brush of a cold foot caused Jai to let out a sleepy and surprised squeak.
“Sorry.” Romano smiled as he leaned in and pressed his face into the crook of Jai’s shoulder and neck. He placed a lazy set of pecks to Jai’s brown skin, lingering there afterwards. “I was too sleepy for shoes.” _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Ah I forgive you,” Jai sighed with some sort of faux vindication, though you could hear in his voice that he was smiling. His skin bristled a bit, little goosebumps raising from the lingering kisses, he smiled still though, rolling to face Romano then. Some mornings, they could sleep all morning; lazy Sundays that were maybe too hot to go out, or too cold to dare venture onto creaky and cold hardwood flooring. Some mornings they lounged around the way couples do, watching movies or making meals. Sometimes when Verona was gone for the whole day, and it was just them two in the house, Jai already felt like a husband. Settled in an old house, playfully arguing over what to watch, Romano would cut the papaya with Jai for papaya salad. Marital bliss without being married, though Jai can’t recall if they had ever explicitly talked about marriage. He didn't especially care about the details of their future, whether they were married or just boyfriends. Though Jai would be happy to be a husband, Romano’s husband, if he were to ask, Jai would most certainly say yes.
After rolling over, Jai peppered his very own light kisses along Romano’s jaw before tucking his own head in the crook of Romano’s neck. His own hands found their way under Romano’s shirt, but nothing with explicit intentions. Just Jai’s warm hands searching to feel Romano’s skin on his palms, and caress his sides along his ribs.
