“Thank goodness, I don’t know what I would have done if you didn’t.” Romano joked before finally opening his eyes when he felt Jai’s hands snaking up under his shirt. He smiled and reached out to softly fluff at Jai’s hair.
Just looking at Jai filled Romano with an impossible amount of the warm and tender love that had only so far been reserved for Jai. He wasn’t sure if he had ever loved anyone the way he loved Jai, and he wasn’t sure he could love anyone else like that going forward. Though they were still young, Romano was certain Jai was his person.
He let out a little contented sigh and tilted his head to try and catch Jai’s lips instead.
“D”you wanna go get bagels and coffee in a bit?” He asked. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Mm, sure. I can buy this time.” Jai said, sighing contently as he settled against Romano.
Jai didn’t have a job, though he did some freelance sewing projects for his Aunt, and Verona did spoil him a bit when it came to allowance. So Jai was able to contribute to the couple dates or excursions when he was able, and offered whenever he could. Not that he expected Romano minded or had any sort of expectations of him. It was one of the many things about Romano, everything with him felt easy. Not like with Joy, most things with her were a fight or a tool to use in a later argument. But Jai could forget about Joy sometimes, especially after having felt so safe with Romano as long as he had.
Jai’s hands found Romano’s, and he laced his fingers between his, trying to snuggle impossibly closer.
“You’ll always be with me, right, Romano?” He asked then, feeling especially sentimental and grateful for Romanos place in his life.
“Hm? Do you even need to ask? I don’t have any plans to go anywhere without you.” Romano stated, sincere but also playful as he often was with Jai. “I’ll stay with you as long as you let me.” He brought his and Jai’s hands to his face and pressed his lips softly to Jai’s often bandaid laden knuckles. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“I don’t need to,” Jai breathed, expectant of that response but pleased nonetheless. “I just want to make sure, that I said out loud that I’m happy you’re with me.” He smiled, brushing Romano’s cheek with his thumb, when he leaned down to kiss his knuckles.
With his lips still lingering on Jai’s knuckles, Romano peaked up at Jai from under curly, blond lashes. He smiled a wide grin before pulling away so he could only wrap himself back up in Jai, pressing his nose to Jai’s face as he looped his arms around the other boy for another firm embrace.
“I’m happy I’m with you too. I love you and that’s never gonna change. Like ever.” He said, kissing Jai’s face and even giving the other boy’s cheek a playful bite. “We’ll keep on waking up like this together every morning forever, alright? One day I won’t even have ti sneak in to roll around in bed with you.” _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Jai squeaked I’m surprise and protest at his cheek being bitten, but it was followed by a giggle. “I like to think she knows, she has to, right? There’s a path where the grass is flattened down from your window to mine.” He laughed before letting out a tired sigh. He didn’t surmise that either of them would be going back to sleep. Jai sat up slowly, his fluffy pink hair, stuck up in random and frizzy tufts. He was sleeping in a beat up Hanes tank top. Normally, Jai wore large knit sweaters, that concealed his shape. But a sweater was usually a bit much considering he was layered under weighted blankets and billowy duvets. The tank top was stretched out in both arm holes, as well as the neck hole. The hem of it was uneven and half rolled up, Jai could fix it, but he liked it that way. Tiny slivers of his pale chest scars, peeked from the arm holes, but Jai didn’t mind Romano seeing; he’s seen all of him by now anyways.
His dark eyes blazed over his room, making note of the varying electronics he needed to turn off. Quill made his presence known, standing against the bars of his cage, chirping and cheeping for Jai’s attention.
“I can let you sleep a bit longer.” Jai offered, smiling softly as he looked back at Romano over his shoulder.
“I’m sure she knows, but is just being nice about it.” Romano said before letting out an exaggerated sigh and sitting up himself. “No, I’ll get up so we can get ready to head out. I’ll feed the boy so you can start getting yourself dressed. I’ll go home to put on pants and shoes and come back.” He rolled off the bed then and made his way over to Quill’s cage, squeaking back as he reached for the familiar container of food kept on a nearby shelf. “Oh, do you mind if we stop by the postal drop box? Dad reminded me last night that I have scholarship applications due.”
Though Romulus hardly had any idea what scholarships were, he had been told they were important and was diligent in making sure his boys had them filled out (even if Venturo was still unsure of his after high school plans). He put due dates on the family calendar in the kitchen and made sure they had plenty of stamps and envelopes on hand. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Of course, do you have more you plan to turn in?” Jai asked, reaching under his tank top to itch at his abdomen.
Jai understood, that Romano was an excellent student, he often helped Jai study. It came as no surprise to Jai, that Romano would be applying to colleges, surely they would all pine for him. Though Jai wasn’t positive what the plan was long term. Where would Romano go, how long did he plan to stay, and where would Jai fall in the mix? But Romano promised a few short minutes ago, that they would always be together. And Romano would never make a promise he couldn’t keep.
"Yeah, there's still a few I have to work on, at least one with an essay. But Uncle JJ keeps dropping off new ones with my dad all the time, so who knows if there'll ever be an end in sight." Romano explained. If anyone took school seriously, it was Uncle JJ. "What about you? Have you thought about taking classes at all? Or just going straight to work?" He asked as he looked over his shoulder at his boyfriend. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“You know me, I’m not really the academic type.” Jai began, somewhat sheepishly. He was a little embarrassed he didn’t excel in school the way Romano did. “Straight to work, I guess. I thought maybe I could find somewhere to apprentice, where ever it is you go.” Jai suggested.
“Whoever ends up landing you at their shop will be lucky. I haven’t had to buy new clothes with you to patch up them up.” Romano said as he threw a grin over his shoulder to Jai. It didn’t matter to him if Jai wasn’t the academic type, he knew Jai had other things he was more adept at and was impressed with him nonetheless. “You won’t have to worry about looking too far though, I don’t imagine I’ll be leaving the city for school. Uncle JJ and my parents suggested looking at community colleges to save money and then transferring to a bigger university. But my uncle also said that if I get enough scholarships, that might not even matter.” _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“You flatter me.” Jai said with a soft smile, he stood up and bent over to kiss Romano on the top of his head. “Saving money is a good idea, but is there anywhere you really want to go? I’d heard Manon was shooting for ivys and she’s excited about it.” Jai asked, squeezing Romanos shoulder before rising up again to start getting ready. The hardest part of Jai’s morning routine was doing his hair, color treated and brittle, the pink hairs were often frizzy and untamed. It took Jai a considerable amount of time to nurture and style the locks, enough heat and product, would transform his hair. But, he’d save that part for last, since it would take the most time. Instead he pulled garments from his dresser, contemplating between two different, but very much the same, pastel sweaters.
