"If you have some time, would you mind sitting with me? I know it's early, but all things permitted, maybe we could have a glass of wine and talk." She suggested.

“Yeah, of course. I wouldn’t mind taking a break.” Amulius shrugged with a weak smile before pulling out a chair at the dinning room table for him and Bambi.

Bambi went into the dining room and went ahead and took a seat, allowing herself to just settle and relax for what felt like the first time in days.

"Did his parents ever stop by to see him? Phlox must have been out of her mind worried about him." Bambi said, keeping her voice soft enough to just remain between she and Amulius.

“They came by before discharge. I told them we didn’t really want a full house, not his first day home anyways.” Amulius explained as he carefully rummaged the cupboards for some wine for them. “I’m sure she’ll be by tomorrow, invitation or not.”

"You're lucky she didn't try to steal him from you. That's her golden boy, you know?" Bambi laughed a little. "Did you know when I got pregnant, she wasn't even mad at him? She was mad at me for the longest time."

“I believe it. Lazlo could do no wrong in her eyes.” Amulius sighed but sort of chuckled. “I don’t blame her though, I feel the same way about our kids.” He added, setting two glasses on the table and pouring some wine.

"That's true. Even when Buck is being a little snot and is acting just like his dad...well, it's just hard to be mad at him." Bambi smiled softly. She took up one of the glasses once it was filled, uttering a 'thank you' before sipping at it. "Speaking of kids...I know it's a little hectic right now, but I wanted to talk to you about Buck."

"Well, it's just the conversation we had with him the other day. I keep thinking about it over and over and over again, about how Buck's days with Lazlo are so...limited." Bambi's face pinched sadly at the thought, but she was quick to try and shake it off. "It wasn't an easy decision, but I think maybe Buck should... stay here more. I want to give Lazlo majority custody... I want Buck to have as much time with his dad as possible."

Amulius was both surprised and not surprised by this suggestion. Bambi was a good mother and a kind soul, of course she would want that for her son. But he recognized it couldn’t have been an easy decision because, well, that’s Buck’s mother.

“Are you sure about that, Bambi? I mean, we both are aware of Lazlo’s mortality...But you’re still Buck’s mom. I don’t want you to miss out on things.” Amulius asked. “I mean, I’m totally on board. It makes sense, but if you were to change your mind, and it is your prerogative to do so, no one would think differently of you.” He added.

Bambi shook her head and gave a soft, almost sad smile.

"Lazlo's a good dad, so are you. I'm not worried about missing out on the big things, I know I'll still get to see him when it matters most, but I am worried about how much time Buck will get with Lazlo." She explained. "I know Lazlo won't be going anywhere for, hopefully, a very long time, but compared to him, I'll have forever with our boy. I want them to be together for as long as possible. I want Buck to have as many good memories with Lazlo as he can possibly manage until then."

“Then it’s settled. Anything I can do to make the transition easier for Buck and you, you let me know.” Amulius said.

"Of course, but I'm not worried." Bambi reached over then and gave Amulius's wrist a squeeze. "I know you and Lazlo take good care of him, Norah too. He's in good hands even when I'm not around. Just make sure his dad doesn't do anything too crazy with him." She smiled.

“I will do my best, you know how it is with Maniac’s.” He said.

"I do. Even as little as he is still, Buck acts more and more like his dad every day." Bambi laughed a little.

She paused when she heard a door down the hall click open and looked up to see Lazlo hobbling out of the bedroom, pausing to look at Norah for a second before continuing on. He was shirtless, save for the large mass of bandage wrapping around his middle, which he was still cradling sensitively. He gestured over his shoulder to where Norah was sleeping.

"How long has she been there?" He asked quietly as he made it to the dining room.
