For as long as Teddy could ever remember, Uncle Amulius had always been there. He wasn't really her uncle, at least not in the blood related sense, but he had been best friends with their mama long before Teddy and her twin brother were even a thought and he was there the day Claire and Clover brought them home to greet them. He was always a constant in their life, which was why it wasn't so strange when Claire had asked Amulius if he could take Teddy, Ezra, and their little brother Rocko for the afternoon so she could have some time to just her and their dad.
Teddy was peaking through the blackout curtains in the living room, looking down at the street to see if she could see Amulius coming yet, while Claire rushed about the apartment to put together a bag of the kids' must haves.
Teddy looked every bit like her mother with softly tilted eyes and a little square nose. Her hair was wild and had streaks of white, attributed to both parents respectively, but was often kept in elaborate hairstyles to keep it from getting in the way. She was still little, so her face and body were still round with baby-fat, though she was certainly not the chunky baby she used to be.
"Bebe, please close the curtain, we don't want Dad to get burned right?" Claire said as she brushed by. "Uncle Amulius will let himself in, I'm sure, when he gets here." _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Amulius preferred to travel via transmutation, but he didn’t normally do it when he was traveling with children. Which between Buck, the twins, Norah and baby Rocko, it was often. He didn’t mind it too much, or at least not that he mentioned to the children, though Lazlo would hear about it at the end of the night. Sharing airspace with ‘peasants’ on the bus and metro was less than favorable but at the rate teleporting made adults dizzy and nauseous, he couldn’t imagine what it would do to eight year olds.
He was walking down the sidewalk headed towards his best friend Claires apartment, Amulius wasn’t much of a water park person but it was summer time and it was the best thing he could think of to get the kids out of the house and burn off some energy. So Norah was at his side, already dressed for a day at the water park. Full equipped with her little one piece and shorts over it, big green heart shaped sunglasses and green flip flops to match. Norah basically grew up with Teddy and Ezra, though she always felt a bit out of place with them. Though she supposed that was to be expected third wheeling with twins, versus the one on one time she got with Nic. But they were nice enough to her, Teddy more so than Ezra who often elected to ignore Norah.
Ezra was inside with his family, sitting upside down on the couch with his head pressed against the floor; his fluffy black and white curls no doubt getting dirty in the carpet.
“I’m so bored! When is uncle Amulius supposed to get here? He’s taking forever!” He groaned, kicking his bare feet in the air as he pouted.
Rocko was his siblings' junior by several years. His parents had decided to wait to try again for another baby after having their hands full with a rambunctious set of twins. Once Teddy and Ezra started school, the couple decided to try, and much like the first time, they got pregnant straight off the bat.
Rocko was just coming up on his fourth birthday, but despite being so much littler he tried very hard to keep up with his older siblings. He was sitting on the couch, mirroring Ezra, though he hardly took up the same space. His little round face was red from the strain of hanging upside down, though he'd never admit any sort of defeat.
"Bored!" he chirped an echo.
"He'll be here soon." Claire assured her boys, going over to scoop Rocko upright. She handed him a pair of sandals. "Go ask your dad to help you, bebe. Ezra, Teddy, get your shoes too." _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Even though it was early for Clover, he was awake, just hiding in the bedroom in the dark. Even with black out curtains in the house it was risky business with these kids, nosy and curious as ever with her little fingers pulling back curtains and carelessly leaving them out. Not that Clover would ever scold them for it, he would sooner endure a burn. But, the bedroom was always a little safer and easier to avoid getting scorched.
“Bring me those baby feet!” Clover called boisterously.
Clover tried hard to not let being a vampire present him from being a fun and present Dad. Even if he couldn’t go out in daylight with them, he tried hard to be fun and doting, making adventures for them at home; even if it kept him from sleep.
Ezra hopped up to go get his own shoes, just as the front door was opening.
“Hola!” Amulius called out upon entry, Norah padding in between his long legs.
“Hola.” She repeated though quietly and with less confidence.
Rocko squealed with delight and ran to the bedroom, flailing his sandals wildly, at the sound of his dad's call.
Claire smiled widely when the twosome came wandering in. She went over to Norah and crouched down to be at her level, reaching for her hands.
"Hola, mi amor. Look at you, so pretty." She grinned. "Did you pick out these glasses for today?"
Teddy watched as Claire greeted Norah and finally peeled away from the window to go to the entryway where everyone else was communing. She looked at Norah, noting her glasses and sandals.
"I like the color." She complimented. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Lazlo couldn’t help himself, he’s always picking up new accessories for her.” Amulius sighed though he wasn’t mad about it.
Norah was little bit more reserved with the twins, Teddy too. But she wasn’t rude by any means, she nodded weakly in acknowledgment, uttering a ‘thank you.’
Amulius smiled down at Teddy then, reaching to pet her hair.
“You ready to get sunburnt kiddo?” He teased, though he was the palest of them and no doubt would be needing a good deal of sunscreen.
“Well, I love them. Maybe you can let me borrow them sometime.” Claire have Norah’s hands a squeeze before letting go and standing upright.
“Mama says I don’t burn, I’m not like Daddy. I just get toasty..” Teddy said to Amulius.
Rocko came running out of the room, his sandals slapping harshly against the floor as he rushed over to where everyone was gathered. With no hesitation, he stretched up, indicating he wanted Amulius to lift him.
“We goin’ swimming?” He asked. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Yeah babe! You ready?” Amulius asked, scooping Rocko up and putting him on his shoulders.
“We’ve been ready!” Ezra called, jogging into the room with his own chancla’s slapping against the floor as he ran up.
“Alright, alright. Mom, can I get their go bag please? Does anyone need to pee before we go? I’m not stopping at a 7-11 for you to use the bathroom.” Amulius asked.
“Be nice and behave.” She scolded before going to grab the bag. “Everything should be in there, but if it isn’t, well, don’t call us. It’s date night, day, whatever.” She said as she held the bag out to him. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“I’ll manage, have fun.” Amulius waved before looking down at the twins and Norah. “Alright, boot and rally, hold hands and let’s go.” He instructed, though Ezra jogged ahead out the door without taking anyone’s hands, which didn’t really surprise Amulius.
Teddy looked at Norah. She didn’t dislike Norah, but she also didn’t know if she particularly liked her either. She thought she hid behind Amulius too much, like she was a bigger baby than even Rocko was, but she’d never say that, nor would she go out of her way to be mean to her. So she reached out to take her hand like Amulius had asked for them to do.
“Bye, babies, I’ll see you later.” Claire said as she waved goodbye to the brood. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Norah felt a little unsure, holding Teddy’s hand after Ezra ran off ahead felt taboo. But she wasn’t one to not do as she was told, she took Teddy’s hand and followed behind Amulius who had to reach to grab the back of Ezra’s shirt and pull him back some, though he struggled.
“I’m not a baby! I don’t need to hold hands.” Ezra combatted, swatting at his sister as she pulled on his shirt.
“Actually, you are a baby. You’re a New Yorker though, you ought to know by now that locals don’t break for kids. They don’t break for anyone. You don’t get to become a speed bump on my watch.” Amulius said, adjusting Ezra at his sisters side and putting his hand in hers. “Good babies who listen, get treats. So keep that in mind, right Rocko?” Amulius smiled, reaching up to ruffle his hair. Amulius liked the twins spunk and zeal, but Rocko was his unofficial favorite.
