Arte was still catching her breath. She was resting her own forehead on his shoulder, an arm still holding onto his other shoulder and her legs lazily draped on either side of his hips. Arte wasn’t a virgin, but she may as well have been. Her first sexual experience was, well, underwhelming and disappointing in a multitude of ways. This was totally different, exciting and passionate, she really felt connected to Sal.

Sal lifted his head and smiled affectionately at Arte resting her forehead against him. He reached up to pet at the back of her head before craning down to kiss softly at her temple.

“Are you okay?” He asked her, though he was fairly sure she was more than.

Arte nodded weakly, rolling her head a little to peek up at him. “Yeah, I’m okay.” She breathed, chuckling a little.

Sal chuckled a bit himself.

“Just had to ask. Towards the end I thought I’d lost you.” He teased as he leaned in to kiss her cheek.

“Shut up.” Arte said but she chuckled through it before placing a little peck on his shoulder.

Sal snorted an airy little laugh at Arte's response, but took a silent moment then to look down at her as she pressed her lips softly to his skin. It was such a soft and intimate gesture, something that wouldn't have been typical of Arte usually, but felt so right, especially at that moment after having let down all the physical and emotional barriers between them.

It made Sal feel like it was time.

"Arte...I love you." He said softly.

Arte peeked up, surprised. Her cheeks pinked again, a little caught off guard at the statement.

“What?” She sputtered nervously, again. “You love me?”

Sal went a little hot in his cheeks as well. Though he was sure of his feelings, he was suddenly uncharacteristically nervous that maybe by saying them out loud he'd put Arte off. Maybe she didn't feel similarly at all. But even if that were the case, he wouldn't take the words back.

Arte’s cheeks were hot again as she looked up at him, he was being serious. She’d heard him right and he even repeated it. It was a little uncomfortable to hear out loud, she was just getting used to the idea of Sal liking her, now he’s decided to love her as well. She had to doubt it for a second, but historically he’s been true since they’d been seeing each other. The only question was if she loved him too? She thought about the old book he’d gotten her, smiling as she turned its fragile pages with care. She thought about their date at the museum, how he got flustered when she told him what she really thought of him, and the sweet kiss they shared. And lastly she recalled just earlier, him racing to her in the rain with an umbrella, and the swiftness in how he cared for her burn.

“I love you too.” Arte replied then, face still red as she declared it but she did so, looking back at him with sincerity.

It was safe to fall in love with Sal, he had a good heart and wasn’t going to hurt her. She believed it wholeheartedly now.

Sal felt a smile break wide across his face, the kind that turned his eyes into small moons above his cheeks just like his mother. He was surprised that Arte had returned his affection so quickly, he was even more surprised that she had at all to be honest, but it was a happy surprise certainly. He reached up to cup her hot cheeks.

"Is it too much to ask for you to say it again?" He chuckled, clearly overjoyed.

Arte saw how Sal’s face lit up, in return it made her face light up. She never expected someone to look so happy to hear that she loved them. Smiling, she nodded gently.

“I love you.” She repeated.

Sal chuckled and leaned in then to place a kiss at Arte's forehead.

"Thank you, I liked hearing that. Now, we should get dressed and clean up around here. I'll take you home, unless you wanted to come over to my place for a bit. That offer is still on the table." He said to her.

“Hm, why not? Sure.” Arte agreed with surprising compliance. Normally she’d be reluctant, babbling and nervous to accept or outwardly refuse. But the veil of fear and self consciousness was raised. Going to her boyfriends house was a perfectly normal and acceptable thing to do.
