Yoo In was quiet for a moment, trying to first understand what Manon was asking of him, so to speak, and how he wanted to proceed.

On one hand, he had always believed in the ideology of the Faction. He had suffered several heavy losses due to the cruelty of normal society and he wanted to assure that nothing like that could ever happen again to him or people like him.

But on the other hand... he didn't want anyone to get hurt trying to obtain that safety.

"Manon, believe me when I say that I never wanted anyone to get hurt. I still don't want anyone to get hurt." Yoo In gave her hand a firm squeeze. "I can't support the Faction if their mission comes...well comes to this."

Manon squeezed his hand back, leaning into him and resting her head against his shoulder then. That’s all she needed to know, that he would choose her over the Faction. Maybe her Dad was in the same amount of danger, but at least Yoo In wouldn’t be involved or linked back to any crime.

Yoo In allowed Manon to lean into him for a few beats before he reached down with his free hand to gently turn her face to him. He dipped his head and rested his forehead to hers, their noses brushing softly.

"You should get back up to your dad and I should probably talk to my brothers and head to the Society to give a statement before things get any more twisted." He said to her.

Manon placed her free hand on Yoo In’s face, cupping his cheek a moment before nodding in agreement.

“Be careful. Text or call me to let me know what’s going on.” Manon instructed.

As time progressed, Manon’s affection for Yoo In never dwindled, nor his for her. Considering Yoo In was Manon’s first boyfriend, she didn’t expect it to last, because first loves so rarely do. But the two remained inseparable and consistently enamored with the each other. By now Manon was looking at schools and thinking about her future, law school was just on the horizon it seemed. Still, with all her busy things and things to think about, Manon made sure to make time for her and Yoo In.

It was a beautiful day, Manon’s harp teacher was away on holiday and it was the off season for ice skating, clearing her day for an impromptu picnic. Manon found them a spot in the park, and spread out a fluffy comforter to lay on. Atop it, she unpacked some of the picnic basket she brought. Her grandma Roxanne actually helped her shop and pack it. Roxanne advised different fruit and nut pairings, varying meat and cheeses as well. She even baked and thinly sliced some french bread for the young lovers as well. Manon was quite spoiled by Roxanne’s expertise, but she did include things of her own. A couple cans of chilsung cider and a couple of choco pies as a treat after all the fancy meat and cheese.

While waiting for Yoo In, Manon fussed over the blanket; trying hard to keep it smooth and weighting down rogue corners. Her and Yoo In were both avid readers, so she had a book with her that she was reading currently. As much as she wanted to read The Second Empress: A Novel of Napoleon’s Court, it would have to hold down the blankets edge until Yoo In arrived.

Yoo In had hardly thought his puppy love crush with Manon would become something more than just that, especially with Ava's heavy forbiddance in the beginning, and yet over the course of their courtship it became quite obvious that their bond was something built to last.

They made sure to make time for one another, even amongst their own individually busy schedules. Sometimes this meant having a meal together during Yoo In's lunch breaks at the restaurants, other times it meant Yoo In walking Manon to her different activities from the subway station. It didn't matter what it was or how little time there might be, all that mattered was that they spent it together.

Although, it was certainly a treat that Manon had a whole day that happened to coincide with Yoo In's own day off.

Yoo In had stopped by the restaurant to pick up his paycheck and subsequently left with much more than that once the Ahjumma found out about his date with Manon. She had been helping make baesuk for an gathering later that evening at the restaurant and sliced up some of the pears she had been preparing and packed them up along with some sliced chamoe melon. She also insisted he take some hot mogwa tea which required Yoo In to run to the Ahjumma's son's house several blocks away to get a thermos (though he could have heated the tea with the palms of his hands and saved himself the trip).

After collecting everything and stopping at a flower stall to pick up a small bouquet of spring flowers, he finally made his way to the park where he found Manon fussing with her blanket set up.

He smiled a little lopsided grin and hurried over.

"You look like you need help." He said to her has he approached.

Manon did a double take before answering, she leapt up from the blanket and hurried over to meet him half way.

“What’s all this? You didn’t have to bring anything. Can I help?” She asked with a smileas she approached. She paused briefly to stand on her tiptoes top plant a kiss at Yoo In’s temple. “Are those for me?” She asked, gesturing to the flowers.

“No, they’re actually for me. But the melon is for you.” Yoo In joked before offering the flowers out to her. “I went to get my check and Ahjumma insisted I bring things for you.” He stepped over to Manon’s set up and set down the to-go box beside the charcuterie feast. “Is this all for us?” He asked, clearly wowed.

“It is, but I can’t take much credit.” Manon admitted sheepishly before sitting down onto the blanket. “Grand-mere made just about everything, I did bring the chilsung ciders though.” Manon said with a bashful half smile.

"Still, you helped and you brought it here for us." Yoo In folded his legs to sit down beside Manon, stretching over to kiss the side of her face as he did so. "And you brought the ciders, which I love."

“Well we so rarely get a whole day to ourselves, I wanted to try my best to make it special.” Manon smiled, which deepened with the soft peck in passing. Manon loved Yoo In, there was no doubt about that. But she still would blush and find herself giddy over the little exchanges of affection or adoration.

"And it is." Yoo In grinned as he went ahead and cracked open the takeout box full of fruit, setting it beside the charcuterie set up. "So how have you been? I know we haven't gotten to see much of each other with finals and graduation stuff coming up fast." He plucked up a bit of honeycomb and cheese, popping it into his mouth as he reclined back on a palm.

“I’ve been good, I’ve been enjoying the free time I’ve gotten. I finally finished Finnegan's Wake, you and Dad should read it too; so I can talk about it with you guys.” Manon began, reaching for a can of chilsung and carefully opening it and offering it to Yoo In. “I think we’re going to start touring colleges in the fall, you should come too if you can get the time off.” Manon suggested then.

"I'll definitely ask." Yoo In grinned at the prospect. "Do you have any schools in mind yet? First choice? Others?" He uttered a little thank you as he took the drink, taking a little sip.
