“You guys need to be nicer to each other. Be grateful you have such an incredible family.” Riley lecturer, rocking the baby in her arms.

"Oh I can lose weight, but you can't fix ugly." Adrik stuck his tongue out at his sister.

"Well, we have some news to share with you all. So hopefully we can talk about that rather than you kids fight." Riley began.

"Okay, well what is it?" Ania asked, already breaking and buttering bread set out on the table.

"Well, our family is getting bigger. Your Dad and I are expecting." Riley announced.

"Expecting...a baby?" He asked.

"Yes, a baby, Adrik." Riley nodded.

Vania clapped suddenly from her place at the table, smiling somewhat. "Congratulations." She said, she was having a hard time reading the room. It was bizarre to think about how long their Mom had been on the Earth before she had kids, and that she waited until they were all grown to have more. But more than that, her Mom would have another baby before Vania found someone to settle down with. However, ultimately, Vania was happy for her parents.

"Ah, how far long are you?" Fauna asked then.

"I think just about a month, now." Riley shrugged. "I have sonograms if anyone wants to see?" She offered.

Ivan glanced to his brother and noted the shock on his face still so he looked to his mother and provided a "distraction" by raising his hand and speaking up.

"I'd like to see them. Sveta might too, hmm?" He looked to his girlfriend then.

Fauna nodded vigor, overcompensating a bit after noticing the quiet faces of shock around the room. Riley passed the sonograms to Ivan and Fauna first, six or seven black and white photos of a little lentil bean. Of course Riley noted some of the shock in the room, anxiously stealing a glance with Mityr in hopes maybe he could breakup the tension.

Ania was still buttering her bread, observing Adriks face in particular. She was a little indifferent, her parents were ageless, why wouldn't they have more kids? Life goes on.

"You okay there, Adrik?" Ania piped up then at her older brother.

Adrik gave a little shake of his head, as if coming to. He knew in his heart that without it being said, he was his mother's "favorite", so this news was shocking and felt a little bit like betrayal. Of course, he was a grown man and to vocalize this would be unbecoming. Instead, he cleared his throat and gave an exaggerated shrug.

"I'm fine, that's wonderful news. I'm fine." He said quickly.

Mityr furrowed his brows a bit. He might've been air headed at times but he was not stupid and he could read his son's reaction.

"We want you kids to know that this wasn't an effort to replace anyone, after all, all of you are irreplaceable, but me and your mother just wanted to add to the love, that's all." Mityr said softly, reassuring.

“Your father is right, there’s lots of love to give in this family. It could be exciting for you guys to have a new sibling.” Riley nodded.

“We know, or at least I do.” Ania said looking at her siblings. “I’m happy for you guys.” She said before taking a bite of her bread.

"I know that." Adrik insisted, noting Ania's choice of words.

Ivan watched the room for a few minutes longer before clearing his theist and holding up the sonogram images.

"Mom, can you show us what we're supposed to be looking at?" He asked, just trying to break the tension still looming.

“Not much to look at yet,” Riley began as she reached over. “Here’s the head, and the other end is, well, their rear.” She said, pointing at the pictures.

"Oh, I see...well, not really, but it looks like it's at least an alright bean? A good bean?" Ivan said, unsure of how to compliment. He stretched to show Fauna. "Right?"
