Havania rolled to mirror the action just as she gave a little laugh and headshake.

“I don’t drink a lot of it, but it reminds me of my dad. Sometimes when I miss my parents I just brew a cup and let it sit. It’s wasteful, like the machine, but it’s also nice.” She explained.

“I think that’s really nice, I bet they’d like that.” Navrik smiled softly. Havania was such a soft person, sort of. She was caring and sensitive, but protective and fierce. Navrik really liked that about her, he bet she’d make an amazing mother. “What were they like?” He asked.

“Dad was wild, that’s why Mama fell in love with him. He always made time to play with us and he loved dancing with Mama. He always knew how to make us all smile.” Havania practically beamed, eyes lighting up as she remembered her parents. “Mama was very soft, quieter than Dad for sure. She was a good mom and always read to us at night. That’s why Dre reads so much. He was her shadow when he was little.”

It was nice talking about her parents with Navrik. It was hard when she was younger to even think about them. She worried that if they saw how hard she and her brothers had it, they’d be disappointed. Now, it was comforting to think of them, hoping that wherever they were, Keli was with them.

“What was your family like?” She asked then.

Navrik made a face, twisted somewhere between discomfort and sadness. A lot of Navriks early years were a blur, his Mother died giving birth to him; that much he did know. His Father, well, was supposedly the devil but he wasn’t going to say that.

“My Mom died giving birth to me, and I never knew my Dad.” He began, which was true. “But, my Grandma took care of us until she passed. She was serious, no nonsense. I think she took it really hard when she lost our Mom and that made her cold. But there wasn’t much coddling to begin with Hun tribes. She cared that we reached our full potential, so she pushed us hard to succeed at all things.” Navrik recounted thoughtfully. “She had really long white hair and long fingernails, her wrinkles were really deep too. I used to think it was really cool just because Huns never lived very long. So I guess I sort of admired her for surviving for so long.” He added.

“You’ve lived long too.” Havania said, reaching out to touch his face then. “And I’m glad you have.”

Havania smiled and pet at Navrik’s cheek.

“I’m not anyone special though.” She said.

“You’re special to me.” Navrik said, he touched her wrist, gently turning it so he could kiss her palm lightly.

“I am?” Havania asked, her cheeks pink at Navrik’s gesture. “Why?”

Navrik didn’t know how to answer. He had an answer, but what was an answer that wouldn’t be too overwhelming or uncomfortable.

“Well, Havania, you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” Navrik said simply. “There wasn’t a single star in the sky until I met you. Now everything feels different, beautiful and important. You make me feel safe, like I can finally live my life.” He explained.

Havania felt her heart give a giddy leap in her chest at Navrik’s statement. If her cheeks were warm before, they were burning now.

“Do you mean all that?” She asked. While she didn’t think Navrik would lie to her, his words were so bold it almost felt unbelievable that someone could ever feel that way about her.

“Of course, I wouldn’t ever joke about my feelings for you.” Navrik said, scrunching his nose a bit, disgruntled at the thought. “I’m also told, I’m not good at jokes so...”

Havania smiled and let out a giggle at Navrik’s reaction, going to cup his face with both hands then.

“I love how earnest you are.” She said to him, petting his face. “I’m glad you see me as something good in your life...you are too. To me that is.”

“I know it.” Navrik smiled softly, relaxing in her grasp again. “There is no doubt with you.” He said.

“Good, I’m glad.” Havania said, leaning in then to place a soft kiss to the top of Navrik’s nose before moving to place an equally gentle peck to his lips.
