“Thanks, Joshua.” Amulius nodded as he rubbed Bucks back. “You hear that, buddy? You want to see Boss Man?” He asked, hoping that seeing Lazlo will make things better.
Buck couldn’t manage his words, but instead mustered a choked out sound and bob of his head.
“Let’s wipe your your tears. We have to be strong for Dad. I know if you’re crying, he’ll cry too.” Bambi crooned as she used her thumbs to gently wipe at his face for him.

When the procedure was all said and done, Lazlo was taken to his own room and Joshua Junior came to collect the family.
Buck insisted on hurrying, which left Bambi and Amulius to gather their things quickly. Bambi had Norah situated on her waist and was clutching one of Buck’s socks he lost in his eagerness.
Once they reached the room, Joshua paused and had to reach out to gently grab Buck’s shoulders before he could bust the door in.
“He’s probably very tired and weak right now, so let’s not get his blood going.” Joshua warned, though he was skeptical a warning would do much. After all, Lazlo was a Maniac. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Surprisingly enough, there was a response from the other side of the door, which meant at least Lazlo was awake.
"C'min." His voice came, albeit groggy.
In the room, Lazlo was laid up in bed with a few IVs hooked up to him and a monitor quietly beeping at the bedside. His face and arms had a few scrapes and bruises, he even had a large, purple goose egg forming on his forehead. If no one had been told that he'd been pierced through like a matador after pissing off the wrong bull, he looked more or less like he'd just gotten into a bad brawl. He did look in pain and tired, but as soon as he saw his eldest poking his head in right along with Amulius, he quickly saved face and mustered a smile.
"Hey, kiddo, sorry about movie night." He said.
"Boss Man!" Buck said, lurching forward before reminding himself to not rile his father up. He wiggled like he had ants in his pants, but still managed to stay put, looking to Amulius for permission to go further. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Buck hurried over to the bedside and leaned his head eagerly into Lazlo's touch when Lazlo reached out to pet his hair. His hand was warm, Buck noted. He was warm and he was still there.
"You had us worried, dummy." Bambi said as she entered the room as well, though she was reaching up to wipe at her eyes as she said it.
"Surprisingly, it wasn't too much on purpose." Lazlo said, having at least enough energy to joke. He reached down to smooth at Norah's hair then. "What're you still doing up, angel face? It's way passed bedtime for you." _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“They wanted to see you, dummy.” Amulius scolded like Bambi, but he was smiling. Happy and relieved to say the least that Lazlo was alive and making jokes.
“Pa, when will you come home?” Norah asked. She wasn’t as privy to what was happening but she could see Lazlo was hurt and read that her family was upset. But she could also see that he was alive and in one piece (more or less) so that read as an important positive to her, so nothing really mattered.
"Hopefully soon, angel." Lazlo said with a smile, though it quickly faltered when he looked back to Buck and could see him stiffening his lip as he held back tears. "Hey, don't cry, kid. It'll be so soon, I promise." He said, though he was unsure if Buck was upset about him not coming home immediately or not. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Lazlo looked up, brows furrowed as he didn't understand at first, but when it clicked, his face became just a bit saddened.
He knew from the moment Buck was born that his son was going to have a very different existence than himself. It was something that pained and saddened him very early on, knowing that he wouldn't be there to protect his son for very long in the grand scheme of things, but as he got older those feelings were things he had to let go. He had to give Buck the best life possible, Norah too now, and he couldn't spend his days NOT present. It was something he had come to terms with, but clearly, it was news to Buck.
"Buck... listen up, alright? I don't want you worrying about me for a long time, you got it, kid? I'm going to make sure that I live the longest and best life with you guys. I'm Boss Man, nothing's going to take me away from you any time soon, I promise you." He assured softly as he cupped Buck's cheek in his hand. "I'm not worried about it and I don't want you to be, alright?"
Buck sniffed, keeping his lip stiff, but mustered a nod.
"Now, you better stop crying or you'll get sissy going too. We don't want that, right?" Lazlo smiled softly. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Buck allowed himself to be fussed over by his little sister before sucking in a calming breath between his sniffing.
"Okay, I won't cry anymore." He managed.
Lazlo smiled softly and reached for Buck's hand. Though it made his middle ache something awful, he gently pulled Buck over close enough he could give him a sort of half-hug from where he laid.
"I love you, kid." He said.

After a couple more hours, the dust finally settled. Bambi had offered to take the kids home and watch them overnight so Amulius could stay with Lazlo, but Buck had vehemently refused to go anywhere which encouraged Norah to not want to leave either. Instead, Bambi went to the house to gather a few odds and ends for everyone and made sure the kids were tucked in cozy on the couch in the room where they had both passed out. She offered to stay, only to be told to go home and rest, though she insisted that they call if they needed absolutely anything.
Now it was just Lazlo and Amulius, the quiet sounds of their kids snoring, and even quieter I Love Lucy reruns playing on the TV in the next room over. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Amulius had pulled an uncomfortable hospital chair to Lazlo’s bedside where he had been all night. One long leg lazily draped over the other as the supporting leg bounced to help keep him awake. He rested his cheek in one hand that was propped on the arm of the chair, the other stretched onto Lazlo’s hospital bed to hold his hand, gently rubbing his thumb along the knuckles. He was sort of watching the tv, even though he wasn’t really a fan of I Love Lucy, occasionally looking over at his kids snuggled up on the couch to make sure they were okay. He was of course tired, but he wasn’t going to allow himself to sleep until Lazlo could come home and they could both comfortably fall asleep in their own bed. Still, he yawned and looked up at the clock, though the hour hardly mattered.
“How are you feeling, any pain? Do you want some water?” Amulius asked Lazlo in a low voice so not to wake their kids.
Amulius wasn’t really the nurturing type, not with his partners anyways. But the gravity of the situation was not lost on him as he was also reminded of Lazlo’s mortality. If there was ever a time to fuss over his partner, it was now.
"A little pain, not awful. I'll be okay. You shouldn't fuss about me either." Lazlo scolded lightly, giving Amulius's hand a squeeze. "It mostly freaks me out. It almost seems like you like me." He added with a worn out little smirk. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
“Tsk, don’t flatter yourself.” Amulius teased with a click of his tongue, smiling a bit himself. “You scared everybody today, you rat.” Amulius scolded back.
