“Grape?” Jack replied, incredulous at her choice, but allowed his face to be held and squeeze in her hand. “Nothing you need to worry about..Do you want me to bring you a nasty grape Gatorade? Or do you want me to put on some tea?” He asked then.

“No, I just brushed my teeth, it would make my mouth taste bad now. Can you just get me a glass of water?” Phlox asked as she trailed her hand down Jack’s cheek, down his arm, and to his hand. She ran her fingers over the knobs of his knuckles, feeling as if she had already memorized every line and scar on them.

“A tall glass of water, coming right up.” Jack said, leaning forward and pressing his lips to her forehead then. He lingered a moment before pulling away slightly. “Phlox, I want to ask you something.” He said then.

Jack couldn’t help but snort, uttering something about being the worst, and chuckling. His laughter trailed off before moving on to what he really wanted to ask her.

“You’ve been sick a lot lately…It has been brought to my attention that you may be experiencing symptoms of pregnancy?” He posed as a question, for some reason he felt awkward about not having thought of it before, he has a daughter. He’s been down this road before. It shouldn’t have taken a nosy cashier, to make him connect the dots. Jack has also never been the poster boy for protected play. After considering it, the question of, could you be pregnant? Evaporated in the air, settling over Jack as a rain of quiet realization, you are pregnant.

There was a brief moment of silence, the question hanging in the air in a heavy way that was mirrored by heaviness of Phlox's stomach dropping.

"Pregnancy? I...I don't think so." She scoffed, though it was certainly forced. "We've only been seeing each other for...I...no. I'm not pregnant."

Jack threw his hands up in defense, absolutely concerned he’d crossed a boundary or struck a nerve by even asking.

“You know your body! If you don’t think you’re pregnant, then I don’t either!” Jack said quickly. “I did buy a fistful of pregnancy tests, and one ovulation test, just in case!”

“I, well, I mean, we’re careful…enough. Right?” Phlox tried to reason, although as soon as she’d said it, she knew that wasn’t totally true.

She and Jack often played fast and loose with their sexual safety practices. They used condoms when they were around and Jack pulled out when they weren’t…for the most part.

Jack made a face (like that Jay Z gif), and shook his head gently as soon as Phlox tried to reason about their carefulness.

“I can grab a test with your water, and we can see for sure?” He suggested carefully. “But if you were…How would you feel about that?” He asked then.

"I mean...I don't know." Phlox admitted honestly. "I really enjoy being with you, I like you, and Lillith, a lot, but...we haven't been together very long and a baby is a huge deal." She fussed with the bottom hem of her shirt which was already worn and frayed from years of comfortable wear as well as the occasional supernatural scrape.

Jack grabbed her hands then, a little quickly, Jack could be eager in most of his actions. He gave them a gentle squeeze as he held them in his own.

“We don’t have to decide anything today. I just wanted you to know, I am with you, no matter what.” He reassured, seriousness in his voice, that normally was not there.

Phlox felt a little lighter with Jack's statement and squeezed his hands in return.

"Okay, one step at a time then." She took a breath, which was followed by a brief pause. "But...if I am, what would you like to happen?"

Jack freed up a a hand, shaking it quickly though he wasn’t sure Phlox would sense the gesture.

“I want what you want. I don’t want to plant any seeds, no pun intended, to sway your decision one way or another.” Jack explained. “I have Lilith, I have you; I’m over the moon as it is. Anything else would just be a bonus.”
