Lucinda let out a sigh of relief, looking at the papers again to make sure they were real. “I can’t believe it, I wanted this place so bad...” She uttered more or less to herself before smiling up at JJ. “Baby Jay is gonna love it here.”

JJ smiled and reached out to place his hands at Lucinda's waist, pulling her closer to him.

Lucinda allowed herself to be pulled close, smiling still.

“If I don’t run you off first.” She teased, tapping her index finger on his nose.

“Hm don’t be so sure. But you’re locked in now, 30 years of my hogging covers and leaving the cap off the toothpaste.” Lucinda chuckled, fanning the documents at him playfully before putting them back down on the counter so she didn’t ruin them.

"Thirty years? That's all? I was thinking a lot more than that." JJ said, trying to slyly reach for his pocket.

“Thirty Years is a long time, don’t you think?” Lucinda chuckled, not thinking anything of him reaching into his pocket.

"Forever is a lot longer though." JJ said, pulling out the house key. Attached to the key via keyring, there was a fancy little number of a ring. He knew Lucinda wasn't particularly "fanciful", but he wanted to indulge a little, which resulted in him buying her a ring with a hefty rock ornamenting it. He held it up the key, leaving the ring to dangle in front of Lucinda.

Lucinda gawked at it a moment, and she wasn’t normally one to do so. “You’re- that’s not a...” She sputtered a moment as she admired the ring. “Are you asking me to marry you?” She asked then for clarification.

JJ chuckled and reached out to cup at Lucinda's cheek.

"You've helped me become the best version of myself and I want to keep growing with you. I want to become happier than I am even now and share that with you. I want to swear all of my days to you, promise you all our happiness. That is, if you'll have me." He smiled.

Lucinda flushed, she wasn’t a terribly romantic person not she minded when JJ was. That being said it still caught her off guard when he talked like that, leaving her a little flustered.

“Well, Yeah. Of course. You almost don’t need to ask.” Lucinda answered, cheek hot in his hand.

JJ laughed then, quickly going to fumble the ring off the key ring so he could put it on Lucinda's finger. Once he got it off, he reached for Lucinda's finger and went to slide it onto her finger.

It'd been a handful of months since JJ proposed to Lucinda and everything since then felt like a whirlwind dream. The couple moved into the townhouse JJ had bought for them and did all the exciting little touch-ups they wanted to do like painting the nursery. They had even started planning their wedding, though they decided to wait until after their baby J was born so they could all enjoy it together. They were seen just as often at Jer and Roxanne's table as they were at Navrik and Havania's, though Lucinda often went to visit her mother or had her come to the city instead. And then, of course, it was such a joy as the days went on to see how Lucinda's belly grew and grew with their baby, who was due very soon.

JJ had been relatively good in keeping his cases local, just in case Lucinda needed him home in a pinch, but he'd been called away to a week long case in Budapest. He wasn't expected home for a few days, but they'd wrapped up the case early and, without slipping it to Lucinda, he took the first red-eye flight he could back home to New York.

The sun had barely risen when the plane touched tarmac and the day was still in it's infancy as JJ struggled to stay awake in the back of the cab with a box of donuts from the trendy little bakery and comic shop Lucinda liked in a few neighborhoods over. When they pulled up to the townhouse, he paid the driver and made his way up the little stoop leading into their quaint little home.

After fumbling with his keys at the door, he quietly made his way into the house, haphazardly kicking off his shoes at the door and then abandoning the donuts on the kitchen counter. The early light of day had barely begun to creep in through the windows, rendering most of the house in the purple and blue shades of nighttime still. He padded upstairs towards the bedrooms, noting there was more light coming in through the stained glass window at the end of the hall nestled between the rooms, and proceeded to ease in through crack of the barely open door of his and Lucinda's room. He tiptoed over to bed, going to quietly edge in beside Lucinda so he could surprise her when she woke.

He shucked off his work uniform, which was rumpled from the flight anyway, and peeled back the blankets just enough to slip in on his side, just behind Lucinda. The sheets were pleasantly warm from her sleep.
