It'd taken a few weeks of "vacation" for JJ to start working things out for himself, but after his time off he decided it was about damn time he put himself back out there wholly in the pursuit of finding a relationship (or at least an attraction) that was NOT Lua Castillo.

Being that he was a rather "old fashioned" (or really, just old) man, he went the traditional route of asking "friends" if they knew any single women. He'd tried asking his sisters and brother first, but none of them knew anyone they'd like to be subject their brother's meanness. So he decided to ask Joshua Junior then, who figured had to have been a lady's man like his father therefore knowing plenty of young women.

Which he did not.

Ultimately, Joshua the greater intervened and managed to set up a date with him and a young woman from one of the other Sections of the Society.

JJ was confident enough that the date would go well, as he had planned well with a fancy restaurant and everything in order, but his confidence began waning from the moment he met the girl in question and it completely diffused when a bowl of tomato bisque was dashed over his head following an ill thought out statement about the girl not looking to be his type (or rather, the admission of surprise that she was in fact wearing a glamour when she certainly did not LOOK like she was wearing one).

Needless to say, his date left and he followed suit after paying the bill, only to trudge his way towards home, his white button down doused red and his hair a mess from trying to scrub the soup out with his hand. He eventually stopped by an offbeat little food truck to grab a burger, finding refuge on a nearby bench where he ate almost pitifully.

Lucinda had been home for a few days, she had some time off from work and school, since Arte had been so busy she was spending some time with her family. But everything was starting back up again, the convenience of the city beckoned her back. Although there was a problem with the trains, there was a huge delay. By the time she got into the city, she was hungry and tired, she was in no mood to make her usual stops on the way to the Laughlins.

She dragged her feet as she walked, following the smell of a food truck which she hoped would cure her hangry state of mind. Upon placing her order rather hysterically before receiving her order, she went to find a seat before spotting a...Soup covered JJ.

"Hey," She greeted, plopping down beside him.

JJ looked up and almost instantly turned pink with embarrassment when he saw Lucinda. He was actually almost tempted to dash away quickly before she could ask him why he looked the way he did, but he knew damn well she'd just end up at his familial home at some point and she'd just ask him then.

So instead he greeted her with a lackluster flick of his wrist wave.

"Hey." He said.

"Oh you know, I'm just really good at reading people. That's kind of the vibe." She nodded. "You know, totally has nothing to do with the uh...what's that- uh the tomato soup. I mean, like it smells really good, so you know, silver lining there." She chattered somewhat playfully.

The arc of JJ's frown increased and he slouched further into the bench.

"Don't slouch, I'm playing with you, we need a safe word for when I can't tease you.." Lucinda frowned too before slouching beside him in solidarity. "I'm sorry, I'm all ears, super serious now. Tell me what happened." She offered, looking up at him.

"I had...a date. It obviously didn't go very well." JJ said, gesturing to the tomato stains on his shoulders and his hair.

"Okay, well first, small victories. I'm proud of you for trying, putting yourself out there. Certainly a big kid move. What went wrong on the date, though?" She asked.

JJ flushed.

"I made a unintentionally rude comment and offended, but before I could correct myself, I was having soup poured on me." He said.

"Oh don't worry about it, at least I wouldn't. People say what they don't mean all the time. It's not your fault if she reacted faster than you could recover, happens to the best of us." Lucinda explained with, reserved only for special occasions, a sincere smile.

JJ let out an airy little scoff and shook his head.

"Of course I do! Don't fight me on this, I'm not normally this nice." Lucinda warned with furrowed brows, jabbing him a couple of times in the side with her finger. "Just...Change your shirt, take a breath and get back on the horse. Learn from your mistakes, it will be alright." She added then.
