"I know Shika and I haven't been together particularly long, but...um-"
"Oh, Wyla, you aren't, are you?" Louise spoke, already exasperated.
"I...um...we are, yes. We're expecting...twins actually." Wyla said slow, watching as both her parents' faces fell. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"Yes, they're both healthy so far and developing accordingly." Shika nodded, hoping that the twins being in good health would be a positive note during this process.
Louise reached up to rub at her temples, her face clearly expressing disappointment. Meanwhile, Phil stared at the two of them with an expression that was still disappointed yet so much harder than his wife's.
"So you didn't learn your lesson after Dirk? Just...Jesus, Wyla." Phil sighed.
Wyla bit at her lip and clenched her hand around the fabric of her dress hem.
"This isn't anything like everything with Dirk, Dad. I know how it looks, but you have to trust me that it's not like that situation at all." She murmured. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Shika took Wyla's hand to keep her from fussing with the hem of her dress. He squeezed her hand gently and smiled softly at her before looking back to her parents.
"I'm sorry you guys find this as such bad news. But, I'm not Dirk. And Wyla isn't doing this by herself." He said matter of factly.
"Well, I'm glad you're involved now, but what happens when those babies are born and the going gets rough? I don't know you well, or at all if we're being honest, but I know the track record my daughter has." Phil said, earning a wince and a frown from Wyla. He looked to his daughter, noting the expression. "Honey, I know you're a good mom to Bixley, but...this is going to be so much harder."
"Dad, I'm not stupid, I know that, but this isn't like before and...Shika's not going anywhere." Wyla said, her voice barely a mumble against her father's words. She gave Shika's hand a squeeze back. "It'll be hard, but we're going to make it work and it's going to be worth it." _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"That's fair, but you're going to get to know me. I have no doubt it will be hard, but supporting Wyla is my priorty. Whatever, she, the babies, including Bixley; want or need from me, I'm going to do that."Shika explained before looking at Wyla and smiling softly, trying to offer some comfort. "For what it's worth, I'm happy and I'm excited. It's going to be great." He assured mostly for Wyla.
Wyla gave a little smile and a nod, leaning over to place a peck at Shika's cheek.
"And I'm happy and excited for them too." She said.
Phil gave a sigh and shook his head.
"We'll...talk more about this all later, I suppose. I need time to adjust, and I'm sure your mother does too. Let's...eat lunch." He said, not wanting to start any sort of fight, not like the one that drove Wyla into Dirk's arms in the first place all those years ago.
"I'm happy to see the babies." Bixley chirped as she munched away on her sandwich. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
A few days had passed since the picnic lunch, it didn't go famously...But it could've been way worse. Overall it went better than Shika had expected, and while he wanted to wait to be on better terms with Phillip, he couldn't help himself anymore. He'd been done with New York for a little bit now, and he'd spent some time preparing the perfect proposal.
Shika first needed to arrange for Wyla to be gone all day as well as miss Bixley. He surprised Wyla with a spa day, telling her when she got home he wanted to take her out on a date night. So Wyla arranged for a sitter for Bix, while Shika prepared the house. Originally, he thought about taking her out somewhere first and doing it, but it didn't feel personal enough. So, he set up the downstairs of their house, made a homemade meal and lit candles. Flower petals leading from the front door up to a spare room in their house; that was meant to be the nursery.
The walls were already shipping and discolored so Wyla had asked him previously to paint it.
Perfect set up.
He'd spent all day, sleeves and pant legs rolled up, priming and painting their babies room. He'd made a beautiful 'Starry night' -esque painting on all four walls, it was a field full of wild flowers and willow trees under a night sky. On the ceiling however, Shika had painted, 'will you marry me?" on the moon, which he painted to be full and bright.
He smiled contently as he laid on the tarp protecting the floor. Exhausted but pleased, it was his best piece yet. It was tricky timing, he had to meet up with his Mother somewhere amongst all the traveling and get the ring, it was a family heirloom on his Mother's side but Hana was pleased as peaches to give it to him. It was a simple band, rose gold with an upside down tear drop diamond. It was modest in size but it shined brightly in the light. There was an additional band, it was a set, that was also rose gold but lined with tiny pearls. He looked at the ring in it's box, it reminded him of Wyla already. She was the quietly radiant diamond, surrounded by beautiful little pearls that would be their children.
Shika was feeling blissful already as the notion of marriage and family. He couldn't wait for her to get home and see it all.
Wyla had to admit, trying to keep up the "not pregnant" ruse for the sake of her parents had been taxing for the last couple of months (especially since she felt like she had been so obviously pregnant for a good while before that even), so when Shika surprised her with a spa day and a date night it was hard for her not to sob in gratitude. Though, she managed to stop sobbing long enough to get a sitter and to get her shoes on before flying out the door.
She'd dropped Bixley off earlier in the afternoon at the sitters and spent her day being waited on and was now waddling her way into the house she, Shika, Bixley, and their soon-to-be babies would all be sharing.
"Shika, I'm home." She sang as she entered, a hand braced at the small of her back. She stopped when she caught sight of the flower petals just passed her belly and she gave a curious little quirk of her brow. "Shika, what are the flowers petals about?" She called as she carefully stepped around them and followed their path. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
"I didn't want to use breadcrumbs!" Shika called, making a 'Hansel-Gretel' reference. "Follow them to me please." He called again before clamoring to his feet to adjust the lights.
He needed full light to paint, but he had set up 'fairy lights' for the special occasion. He flipped the appropriate switches and smiled as the room glowed.
"Well, I'm glad you didn't. We don't need an ant problem." Wyla smiled as she made her way along, following the petals to the spare bedroom, which was intended for their nursery. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Wyla gave a little smile, figuring Shika had just wanted to show her sweetly that he'd painted the room as they'd talked about.
"Shika, did you paint the room, honey?" Wyla asked as she proceeded to open the door and poke in, eyes widening at the sight of the mural on the walls. Her mouth opened up in a pleased little 'o'. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
Shika couldn't help but flush upon seeing Wyla in awe. The lights reflecting perfectly in her eyes, he began feeling a little nervous but shook it off as he reached out to take her hand and draw her further into the room. He brought her in so she was standing in the middle of the room, he held her hand as he admired it with her.
"It's so beautiful, Shika, so much more than I could have ever dreamed of." Wyla said, admiring the room before turning to Shika, beaming at him. _________________ Butts n' butts n' butts n' butts.
