“You don’t need to, Mama and Papas are supposed to worry about our babies. It’s apart of our job.” Roxanne assured, smoothing out Xander’s hair. “I’ll let him know you’re okay, and that will be enough.” She assured with a smile.

"Okay...can I lay in your lap?" Xander asked as he peeked up at her. Whenever he was upset or sad or even just tired, his favorite thing was to lay his head in Roxanne's lap and let her pet his hair until he felt better or fell asleep.

Xander hurriedly scooted off Roxanne’s lap and promptly laid down to assume his usual position. He rested his head on Roxanne’s lap facing her and tucked his legs up toward him, gently rubbing his feet together as he got comfortable. He nuzzled his head into her legs and reached for her hand to guide it to his hair.

Roxanne began stroking Xander’s hair tenderly, she smiled and began humming an old French lullaby from when she was little.

Xander snuffled his nose, congested from his crying, and closed his eyes, only to open them a second later when the front door was opened.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I tried to leave the office quickly.” Jer sputtered our before he could even see Xander and Roxanne. He came into the living room and gave a sad pout. “Xander, what happened, bébé?” He approached and crouched down so he was at Xander’s hair as well.

Xander wiggled anxiously, feeling worry wring at his belly.

“I got...sad.” He said.

Jer looked up to Roxanne questioningly, as if to ask “why was he sad?”

“C'est compliqué.” Roxanne said softly, petting Xander’s hair still. “But, Xander was worried you’d be upset. I told him you were just worried if he was okay, can you tell him I’m right?” Roxanne began. [/i]

Just as a little pang of guilt made Jer furrow his brows, Xander immediately felt himself getting worked up again, feeling that same guilt.

“I’m sorry, Papa.” He sniveled before Jer could even speak.

“What? No no, Xander. You don’t have to be sorry.” Jer said quickly. He felt guilty for making Xander worry and he felt worse when the little boy began crying all over again. He looked up to Roxanne, unsure of what to say or do. Why was Xander getting so worked up?

Roxanne felt flustered herself but tried to keep her cool. She took a deep breath and assured herself this would pass as she cooed at Xander.

“No more tears, please bébé? How about we put earlier today behind us, hm? We’re all here together, that’s all that matters.” Roxanne tried to assure.
