“Why didn’t you tell me you were scouted by the NFL?” Cardinal asked.

Seamus was quiet for a moment, not sure how to answer. He didn't have it in him to lie, so he wouldn't, but he didn't want to be totally up front if it meant possibly hurting Cardinal either, so he wouldn't.

"It isn't a big deal, I turned the offer down anyway." He shrugged lightly before going to flag down a taxi.

"Well, you know, I got a bunch of scholarships to play during college, but Mom and Dad always told me to focus on school. I came to get a degree, not to play professionally. Besides, even then, I can't play forever." Seamus reasoned, though most of his "reasoning" was a sham, as he tried to look passed Cardinal as a taxi rolled up. "Let's just go to dinner hmm?" He approached the car and opened the door for Cardinal first.

Cardinal got in but her expression didn’t change and she wasn’t prepared to drop it. “That’s an enormous opportunity...Even if you couldn’t play forever, that’s a dream come true.” Cardinal pressed.

Seamus pressed his lips thin as he got into the cab, giving the driver the name of their destination before turning to Cardinal.

"Cardinal, it was an opportunity, yes, but I promise it's not one I'm going to miss. I'm here for my education so I can start an actual career down the line. The NFL is great, but...this is what I want to do." He insisted.
