Though the situation was very unexpected, Viktor couldn't imagine being anything other than excited for his and Bernadette's little bundle of joy. It hardly took a "discussion" for the young, lovesick puppies to decide they were keeping the babe, in fact, it took a longer sort of discussion for Viktor to plead to Asha to keep it a secret until his father could come home and for his siblings to come over so they could sit down together as a family so he could tell them the joyous news.

Which was today.

Viktor was the baby and undoubtedly everyone's "favorite" something, so it hardly took any convincing to get his siblings over (Calloway included) for dinner. He'd told Asha that he and Bernadette would take care of the arrangements for food, which mostly meant Bernadette would cook (as her food had quickly become Viktor's favorite) and he would help. Currently, he was scuttling around the kitchen, helping where he could while they waited for everyone to show up.

"What next?" He asked Bernadette after he'd taken some bread rolls from the oven to cool.

Bernadette was standing on a step stool, an apron bundled in wads around her waist as it was too big for her. The step stool was against the kitchen island that housed a clean stovetop (as it wasn’t used often). Bernadette was quite short, so she needed to stool to see down into the big stew pot she was tending too. She stirred its contents dutifully, brows knit with concentration before pausing and wiping her brow with the back of her hand.

“Rolls are out?” She asked, glancing around the pot to see what Viktor took out; confirming it was the rolls. “Can you cut up some of that lettuce for salad?” She asked, nodding at the head of lettuce on the cutting board. It was crisp and wet still from whenever it had been rinsed in the sink. “Maybe we can switch in a bit, I’m getting hot leaning over the stew.” She added.

Bernadette was practical, not in a thoughtful or smart way. But she knew she wanted to keep the baby, she knew she loved Viktor; nothing else mattered. Not hugely anyway, she felt confident her and Viktor could figure anything out once confronted with it. Her morning sickness had subsided a bit, the sight and smell of some things would still call on a wave of nausea. But she wasn’t experiencing many other symptoms and was generally the same chipper Bernadette.

"You're hot? Should you sit? Do you need water? I can cut the lettuce and stir the pot." Viktor said quickly as he went to hurry over to a cabinet to grab a glass for water, though Bernadette hadn't asked him to yet.

“Just from being over the stove! I don’t need to sit, I wanna make a nice dinner for your family!” Bernadette said quickly, waving at Viktor.

"It already is nice, we never eat home cooked unless Mama Havania cooks for us. This is a treat already." Viktor assured. "Besides, I want you and the b-a-b-y to be able to relax." He said/spelled (as if no one else knew how to spell in the house).

“Well if it’s bad you’ll never eat home cooked food again.” Bernadette pouted, stirring the pot with more vigor now, in case Viktor were to pull her away.

"You could never cook anything bad if you tried. Your cooking is my favorite." Viktor said earnestly as he went behind Bernadette, slinking his arms around her waist and stooping, and he HAD to stoop, to kiss her cheek. "Promise you will relax if you need it?"

“Pinky promise.” Bernadette smiled then, turning a bit to ‘boop’ his nose with her pinky. “How do you think your family will react?” She asked then, turning her attention back to the stew; peppering in some herbs.

Bernadette tried to leave a voicemail for her Dad, well she tried to call to tell him about her pregnancy, but his mailbox was full. Bernadette’s relationship with her Father made gaging other social situations, what was appropriate and how to ‘read a room.’ She couldn’t guess if the Nikitin’s would have an extreme reaction or not.

"Mm, not mad, but I'm sure my parents, at least, will say something along the lines of wishing we'd waited. I think that's fair though, they waited until they were married to start their family after all." Viktor nodded, still wrapped around Bernadette. "But once they see how happy we are and hear what we have worked out they'll definitely be okay with it." He added confidently .

Bernadette nodded. “Do you think your siblings will care?” She asked then.

"I don't think so. I mean, they'll probably feel about the same as my parents, but not more mad or anything." Viktor said, glancing up as he just then heard the front door open.

"Is anyone home?" Sasha's voice came from the front entryway of the home.

"Kitchen!" Viktor called, lit up.

Viktor had always admired his big brother Sasha. He thought he was incredibly smart and talented. If there were things Sasha couldn't do, Viktor didn't know what they were.

Bernadette liked all of Viktors family, while Asha was probably her favorite, she admired Sasha the same way Viktor did. If she had had a big brother, she hoped they would be as smart and as clever as Sasha.

Sasha made his way into the kitchen and was immediately approached by Viktor. While Viktor was considerably taller than his older brother, Sasha still stretched and managed to put his brother in a playful choke hold.

"You keep getting taller, Vitya. Grow anymore and Bernadette will have to carry around a ladder just to kiss you." He teased before looking over at Bernadette and giving her a friendly smile. "I hope he's been helpful since it looks like you're cooking."

"I was hesitant when Viktor first invited me, I thought I should eat since all Mama ever puts together is take out, but when he told me you'd be cooking, that changed the game." Sasha nodded as he released Viktor. "Do you need anymore hands? I'm not too versed in the kitchen, but I can help set the table."

"Yes. That, please." Viktor nodded. "Mama said use the blue plateware, you know. Her fancy plates."
