“You go, I’ll wait here in case they come back with anything about Seamus...” Biddy nodded, urging Murphey to go ahead.

Starling led Murphey to Cardinals room, she looked pretty rough as the doctor had warned. Her head was bandaged up and her face was all cut up from broken glass. Her hand was all wrapped up and arm tucked in a brace snug to her chest. Several pads and wires were connected to her to monitor her closely. Starling rushes to her side, sniveling and reaching out; wanting to touch her but merely feeding the air around her face.

Murphey felt his heart sink upon seeing Cardinal. He went over to her bedside with Starling and reached out to gently touch her good hand. He'd always liked Cardinal, even before she started dating Seamus, he considered her part of the family with her relation to Alby and Leon. It broke his heart to see her so roughed up.

"Oh, Cardinal." He murmured.

Starling continued to snivel, wiping at her eyes.

“Did they say how Seamus was?” She asked then.

Murphey felt a lump instantly well up and he had to quickly swallow it as well as oncoming tears at the thought of his boy.

"U-um, ahm, he's in surgery. He had some internal injuries, but they said those should be fine. They're worried about his back though." He said, his words choking.

“Oh my god.” Starling cupped her hand over her mouth. She really liked Seamus, he was apart of their family and it was just as upsetting that anything happened to him. “I hope the bastard who hit them rots.” She uttered.

Some time had passed, Murphey and Biddy came and went to check if Cardinal had woken up yet but she was still sleeping. Starling had posted up in a chair at her sisters bedside, she had turned on the tv in the room and passed the time watching ‘Ink Master,’ while holding her sisters ‘good hand,’ tenderly. Starling herself was still pretty tearful but the nurses and doctors who came in routinely updated her that Cardinals vitals were good. But she had growing concern for her would be brother in law. And Starling hoped Seamus would be well enough and sleeping in his own room by the time Cardinal woke up.

A few hours had felt like a lifetime to Murphey, but eventually a doctor approached Biddy and him to give them an update on Seamus. He'd pulled through surgery just fine and was in recovery being prepped to move to a room of his own. While he waited for his room, Biddy and Murphey were permitted to go back and sit with Seamus in recovery.

Of course, Murphey popped in with Biddy, trying hard not to choke up at seeing his son so dinged up and so clearly in pain with all his groggy whimpering, but after being assured by a nurse they were going to get him something to take the edge off and, of course, telling Seamus he loved him (and all that good stuff), he went to Cardinal's room to give Starling an update.

Upon reaching the room, he gave a light knock on the doorframe before popping in.

"We have an update." He said quietly, as to not roust Cardinal, though he was skeptical he would.

“How is he?” Starling asked quickly, clasping her other hand so both were on Cardinals good hand.

Before Murphey could answer, Cardinal started whimpering and shaking her head as she came too. Her eyes barely peeled open and she tried to let out a sob but choked as her throat was dry. She rasped as Starling jumped up, cooing and petting her arm.

“It’s okay, it’s okay. Take it easy.” Starling tried to shush her.

Cardinals eyes darted frantically around the room. She knew she was in a lot of pain, she was registering she was in the hospital but she didn’t see Seamus. She did see Murphey in the doorway and let out a dry croak upon seeing him, feeling hysteric and assuming the worst.

“Da-Dad...!” She managed (I imagine after all this time she’s on a Mom-Dad basis with them). “Wh-where’s he?” She hissed dryly through her lips.

"Cardinal, my girl, easy." Murphey quickly went over, cooing at Cardinal much like her sister. "He's here, you're both here in the hospital. He just got out of surgery and we're waiting to get him into a room. Biddy's with him in recovery." He nodded.

Cardinal bubbled out a heavy sob of relief that he wasn’t dead. But she needed to see him, she wanted to see him.

“I..want..” Cardinal attempted to sputter again.

"You want...a doctor? Are you in pain? Do you want water?" Murphey asked, trying to be logical.

“Seamus!” Cardinal squeaked. “I want to see Seamus.” She cried.

“Honey, he just got out of surgery. You both need rest, I don’t know if you’re supposed to be up.” Starling tried to reason but Cardinal shook her head with as much vigor she could muster.

Murphey pressed his lips into a tight frown, reaching up to scrub a hand through his dark hair.

"I can...ask, Cardinal. I'll see what's possible when Seamus gets settled in his room. Maybe we can get a wheelchair situated." Murphey said.
